After marking the windshield wiper position, I took the nuts off, rocked the windshield arm back and forth and pulled them straight off. Thank you!

I just replaced the battery of my Ford Escape today. I've looked at the other how to replace the battery videos for a few months because I knew that one day I was going to have to go at it and it seemed like a hard task. Lucky for me I found this video today before I replaced the battery. The process was simple and like many others mentioned, the hardest thing was the whipper blades and still it was not that bad. Thank you very much for this video. You made it go very smooth. I am going to link this video and the other popular suggestions in KZfaq.

I watched this video first to see if I should attempt it(being the shorter video). It looked easy and planned on doing It next day. Next day comes and I watch the video with the mechanic removing the filter. I hesitantly started your procedure and glad I had. Soooo easy, Thanks thanks thanks.

Saved me a bunch of time and pain with your video, cheers dude. Hardest part was getting the wipers off :( A removal tool would have really helped but a bit of spray on lubricant and some back and forth wiggling did the trick

I love this video and hate the manufacturer for making something as simple as battery replacement into a relatively long process requiring wiper blade removal. What's next? Oil changes requiring transmission takeoff? Anything to screw your average consumer

I was wondering how to take the a cowling off! Need to change my spark plugs, but with a 10" extension wasn't working due to the cowling being in the way! Thank you for this video! Very helpful

Thanks for the video , pretty simple to do this way , I used a large screwdriver to pry the wiper arms off the bolt. Make sure you make note of the wiper angle prior to removal, and it would not be a bad idea to test the wipers for alignment before putting the tools away!

Very helpful. Thank you for making this video. I watched a few different KZfaq videos and most used the air filter route... where they broke something that way in two of the videos. I followed your video and finished the removal/install with ease in maybe 30 minutes if not less, on my 2016 Escape.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you so much for posting this video. SO MUCH BETTER than the way the mechanic did it by removing the air filter assembly (and breaking part of it). Just a note to others, it'll help to have metric sockets and wrenches. When I removed the wiper nuts I put a small chisel under the arm, put a wrench under the chisel for leverage, and hit the chisel handle with my fist and the arm popped right off. No problem at all to replace. Thank you, oh, I already said that :)

Most important part is missing ,to mark the location of the wipers otherwise they will not work after you put them back on and it will take a long time to adjust them

What a STUPID idea that was!! So in order to check the battery water levels you have to do all of this. And every battery has to be checked every once in a while for fluid levels. Thank you Rich for posting this. I would have never thought you had to go through this for the battery. Love the car but stupid move on FORDS part! Battery should be in the front of the engine compartment like all of the older model cars.

Remove air box. Very easy. Battery slides forward. Easier than this and u dont have to risk breaking the cowling

I took the nuts off but do I just pull the wiper arm off? I don't want to break it

just got a new to me (2013 ford excape) that is shifting slightly ruff, I was wanting to disconnect the battery and drain the car of juice completly, to reset the TCM learning tables but was worried about loosing access to unlock and start the car since it has one of the intelligent keys. Anyone know if unhooking the battery has any dire experiences with making the inteligent key stop working???

It was a good video, because I saw another video where the mechanic took out the air filter and I guess he was wrong . I do think it was poor of Ford to put the battery here. Is this how one puts coolant in the auto , because the cap is tucked way back. I am having second thoughts about this car.............????????/

hey thanks for the video only took me an hr! However now my wipers aren't working when I start the car the passenger wiper "bumps" downward a few times but they wont wipe across the windshield now. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Thanks for the DIY video, Daniel!! Only a motion would give this a thumbs down. Now that this mystery is solved... it's time to get back to finding a rear wiper blade for the 2013 Escape. So far, no one makes one. originally came with Rain-X Expert Fit blades from Ford, but apparently the 2013 is the only model year with this particular design where the clip is on the blade and the bar it clips to is on the arm. Every other design today is the reverse... blade has a bar that snaps into the clip-slot on the arm. Ford really screwed the pig on the design issues. Do they even hire anyone who actually is a car person? or just idiots savants with college degrees??

Although it's a pain to remove the battery, there is a negative battery cable terminal on the side of the engine compartment that you can get at.

yes. may need some wd40 and a small pry bar or screw driver. mark where the wipers are at so u get them back in the same spot

this is how its designed to change the battery.

if you're going to give instruction, start at the beginning. Don't start halfway through the process. gotta take the wipers off ? show how to do it. size is the torx for petes sake!

See the video from the battery guy. There is no need to remove the cowl and wiper blades. Access the battery from the front by removing the air filter and air intake. It takes under 15 minutes.

Anyone have front wiper issues? I’ve read it happens when you change the battery. I changed mine and am not sure when the wipers went out. Every once and awhile I’ll get some kind of twitch from one wiper but they don’t work at all. I’ve taken the wipers off and re installed many many many times and different ways. I’ve put so many hours into this and refuse to go to a shop. Can’t afford it who knows how much lol military doesn’t pay enough smh. Thanks for the help!

regarding wipers, there not hard to remove. not a press fit. just very little cleareance so takes some jiggling to work off. mine popped off pretty easy.

Okay, this is the 3rd way I've seen to get at the battery in an escape. But what's gonna be the easiest for a novice to pull off. So far, this seems like the easiest and more simple. But since it dont show how to get the battery out itself. How does this work? The other 2 videos have the air filter totally removed because you got to swing the battery out. Just looking at this video. It's still under the windshield. So how does the battery actually come out? Dont look like it's something you can lift out.

Yeah just so you have to bring it to FORD so they can charge you whatever to replace the battery that should be so simple to replace.

Just remove the airbox! No need to remove the cowl.

Not that what you said was wrong but how is this easier. You are taking way more bolts out then removing the air box. Plus undoing the wipers is a pain in the ass.

so, to service a battery you pretty much have to take a lot of things off including cowl cover and wiper arms. how far we've come. this is why i dont intend to replace my 2010 escape for now, when i saw how bad these newer cars are on maintenance.

This is a good video and the procedure went well, BUT IT WON'T WORK if you replaced the original battery size with one that's longer. Now I have to remove the air filter case too, and the front of the battery box, though making the battery switch will be easier since I also took off the wiper areas panels. Oh well.

This is NOT the correct way according to Ford service manual procedure. One would think those who built the vehicle would know best how to service their vehicle. One thing for sure, doing it THIS way, more parts to drop down inside the engine bay! And there been more than one video showing how to do it without taking the cowl off!

Nonsense! How is this "the correct way". It is certainly the most difficult and time consuming way. Access by removing the air box and air filter is a far easier process. The Ford engineers designed the battery box with a front removable panel for sliding the battery forward and out.

This is the absolute dumbest location for a battery in the history of automobiles.
