In todays video we talk about my wifes 2013 Kia Optima, after owning it got over 115k miles, wait till you hear what I have to say. Thank you for tuning in!

I have a 2013 Kia Optima LX, black in color just like your wife's. Purchased the car in 2016 and I have 232k miles on it. I just replaced the catalytic converter, the full throttle body sensor, fuel pump gasket, rocker cover and the left and right axles last month. Most of my miles are highway miles for work, about 50 per day. I do regular maintenance, the car has been good to me.

If you plan on keeping a car for a while, best bet is to stay away from the turbo models and go with a naturally-aspirated engine as they've proven to have greater longevity time & again.

That's true for the old model turbos for any car brand. I have a Kia Optima Turbo. Have it for 9 years now. Have zero issues with it. Good on gas, 100% reliable. No regrets. 👍🏼

Update: turns out my engine blew, had it for 10yrs, with 140km. But Kia replaced it no hassle. Now have a brand new engine, with 0kms. Still 100% satisfied. It should last another 10 years easily, still looks brand new, the style is sleek and timeless.

I have a 2012 and It has about 69k miles. Yes it does lack some power compared to other newer cars. But it’s great on gas and it takes me everywhere with no issues.

Take it out of eco mode pull the shifter over to sportmatic and smash the pedal. Itll run with anything in its class. Drive the wheels off it.

I have a 2014 optima LX with 132000 miles I did a muffler delete and everything It’s pretty fast it accelerates good and it’d never been in the shop once But then again I’m 100% on maintenance

All I have to say is you were lucky because 7 years later we have had nothing but trouble out of ours and can't keep it running long enough to put over 82,000 miles on it as of yet

It must be a Blessing I bought a 2015 Kia Optima ex used one owner car well maintained an older gentlemen owed it. the car just reach 200.000 miles I changed the pvc valve when i bought it at 88.000 miles it's time to change it again I'm always on top in changing all the fluids on time hopefully I can get another hundred thousand miles.

Have the same car. So many recalls. From steering problems to a bad engine. A new recall coming in April 2020. Fuel line.

You should put a rear spoiler and change the badges it makes it look way better just with that. Doesn't cost much at all and it won't look so plain.

I have a 2015 Optima Hybrid. Currently at 78k miles. Car has only stopped on me one time but that was probably my own negligence of not going to maintenance. The car runs great. I’m keeping it until it doesn’t turn on anymore

My sister has a 2015 SXL Turbo with 161k miles on it. It’s been a great car overall and she loves it! It’s been the family hauler since she bought it in October of 2014. It’s has had absolutely no issues whatsoever. It went in for its 160k mile maintenance a few weeks ago. It will be getting traded in about 2 to 3 months due to my sister wanting something “newer” she’s trading it for a 2018 SX Turbo with the new Limited package since Kia removed the SXL from the trim levels and now it’s just an option package on the SX.

Lil P No not yet sadly she still has her 2015 SXL going strong it has almost 200k on it now. However she won’t be getting another Kia she’ll be getting a 2018 or 2019 Infiniti Q50S. When? I have no idea.

Uriah Anthony It should still be reliable, just make sure it has had the KDDS (or KDSS whatever it’s called) done, it the recall for all 11-18 Optima’s because the engines could possibly have a rod bearing failure and the KDDS is programmed into the ECU to alert the driver of any knocking before it causes extensive damage. I think KIA extended the engine warranty and for 2011-13 vehicles they are replacing the engine free of charge so if you do plan to buy that car make sure it’s had the recall taken care of or scheduled an appointment at the dealer. But other than that yes that car should be reliable if it has had all its routine maintenance done. My sister still hasn’t traded her car in and it’s currently sitting at 215k miles and mechanically it’s been great! The only consistent issue she’s had checked is the vacuum hoses which have been checked/replaced about 2 times since it’s hit 200k. Also make sure the Shark Fin is intact. If you make sure all those things are in great shape then it should be a great car and should last a pretty long time.

I have this same car but a white one. Kia just replaced the engine last year because of a recall... something about their GDI system I don't quite remember the details but they fixed it now and runs amd drives alot better, Odometer says 106k but My Bluetooth OBD scanner that says the miles on the ECU and it says 51k miles now and its a really good car averaging 29 to 36 MPG, and for being non-turbo it has some pretty good torque I must say and the stock speakers in this car be slapping lol got the engine replaced at 89K miles it was a good thing I got an extended warranty on the car if not I would've had to pay out-of-pocket for the engine. But overall really good and reliable car. Kia has really been stepping it up lately with there cars.

i just bought a 2019 Optima S and just having a push button starting issues. taking it in tomorrow, thinking it’s more a sensor. sometimes it doesn’t start up right away but starts and runs under 1 rpm. so i have to shut if off, wait a minute then it starts right back up. I love the car, just for work commute and a long trip 1-2x a year.

Mines got about 70,000 miles (115k) and it seems great it the stalk model . How much do u think it's worth?

The engine blew on my optima ex turbo about a year ago at around 126,000 km :/ got the motor replaced under the recall, put about 40,000 km on it after that. I also had the fuel pump go out on me a few months into buying the car, but was covered under warranty. there is lifetime warranty on the new engine now.. let's hope it stays strong! Have a few mods on it as well. Love the Optima, super underrated and fast car!

What is the stipulation for warranty? Do you have to take it to KIA or do it yourself and keep records?

@@lotus956 Mine is at the dealer currently awaiting a new engine. I kept no records of oil changes and other maintenance, just made sure to have the KSDS(Knock Sensor Detection Software) update done or they won't honor the warranty.

I have a 2016 Kia Optima too and I am at 100k and all I can say is wow. This car is amazing but make sure you take of your car with maintenance on time or else you're in trouble.

@@luism8612 An oil catch can is a must. Especially since these cars have GDI engines.

@@zureai GDI engines have a lot of oil blow by. That causes your valves to gum up a lot quicker. A catch can will collect the oil that would ordinarily blow by and sit on the valves. You have to empty it periodically, but it's well worth the extra work. Also keep an eye on your oil level, mine went through a quart every 2000 miles or so. There is a class action lawsuit against Hyundai and Kia both for oil consumption in our engines. My Optima is sitting at the dealer with a new engine being put in it, compliments of Kia.

I live in Florida too in Broward county in Coral Springs. I as well got a 2013 Kia Optima EX, currently has 50,000 miles, bought it new with 0 miles, I as well have regular maintenance oil changes, new tires, etc. Ok at 30,000 my engine blew just like your mother in law. Kia replaced the engine with no questions asked. Right now my AC is not blowing cold air (my warranty to cover ac problems is over) just warm so I bought the AC Expansion valve to have it installed by our family mechanic. Hoping the air compressor still work so yeah. After my engine blew like that, no this is my 2nd and last Kia, I had a 2004 Sorento too no problems there though. I already paid my Kia off. I drive less than 3 miles to get to work. So it under miles everyone tells me.

My 2013 Hyundai Sonata (same engine and running gear as your Optima) just clicked over a 122,000 miles. I use the car for business so I'm on the road constantly. Same story. A couple of recalls here and there but nothing major. Most of the engine difficulties that you spoke of are with the 2011 and early 2012 models. They didn't get all of the debris cleaned out of the engine during the machining process which resulted in oil starvation.

@@lotus956 The New engine replacement is more of a bandaid than anything else. Check Optima Forums and you'll find people on their 3rd engine. My car is sitting at the dealership waiting for a new engine. Had the cylinder head replaced at 11K miles, starter at 1100 miles and now a new engine at just over 91K. Always used Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30 and it ran fine until it just started knocking.

With my 2011 Optima I take it out of Eco (economy mode) and it has a lot of get up and go! 200HP! GDI (gas direct injection)

I have a 2015 Kia Optima SXL Black with 2 tone leather interior. I bought the car a year ago with about 30,000K it now has 40,000 I love it! I was never a foreign vehicle kinda guy but, no complaints here.

I live in Canada and i have 2013 Optima LX+ no issue. The 2.4 liter engine seen pretty reliable. I know they make a recall on it here in Canada for this engine. I got 75000 mil no issue, far less than my previous car that was a 2007 Mazda 3 GT.

@Oddwolf799 lop I have done regular maintenance on my car so far nothing huge. My first car was a 2003 toyota corolla. The thing lasted me around 120,000 miles before i traded it in. I only had one issue with it and that was it. My Kia is a good car but as far as reliability. I'm not sure on their product or how long they last. Obviously if you take care of your car it'll take care of you. I'll be getting a toyota corolla again. They're really nice, cheap and reliable.

The reason why the turbo models go out is due to a defect in the machining process at the production plant. Basically they left metal shavings in the engine and the debris eventually clog up the oil passages and deprive the rod bearings of oil. Kia and Hyundai have announced global recall on the " theta 2" engines which were affected and they will replace these at no cost to the customer.

Correct, there was a global recall on the turbo motor kias. I have a 2011 Kia Optima SX now and the motor was replaced with the recall free of charge.

I'm about to buy a used car, and the one I'm looking at is a 2011 kia optima lx. It's already had an engine recalled, and was recently replaced by the dealer. It's got 77k miles, and is at 7.2k. is this a good deal?

I was told that on the non turbo motors, they were finding metal shavings in the oil, but according to them an oil change was all it would need. My mother in law has the turbo motor and her motor went. Kia did replace the motor for a brand new one at no cost at all to her.

I took my 2012 non turbo a few months back and they inspected it and said it was all okay. I believe the engines have an extended warranty and will replace if it fails . I received a letter in the mail. You can find them on optimaforums.com

I think if the car is very well taken care of its worth it. Make sure it's the non turbo motor, they are much more reliable. As far as gas mileage we still can get 30 MPG high way.

Most hybrids aren’t a good buy! Stick with basic.

95% of cars with proper maintenance will last a long time!. Certain models with higher end features will require higher maintenance and that's were people skip maintenance and fail. There is a reason why a civic drives like a civic and a m3 drives like an m3. And so dose the cost of owning them.

Whole lot of annoyance 🙄 and I work north fl and live in south fl . It’s my 6th car how has it broken down more then any of the five other cars I’ve had ever 🤦🏽‍♂️ but I got a Chrysler too and THATS BAE😍 so I kinda sat the car for the side or husband drives it here n there

I did, It went smooth. Had a rental for about 2 weeks cause the parts were back ordered. But 20k miles after and no issues.

37 miles/gallon? I also have a Kia optima 2013 that runs great but best I've done is maybe 31-32 miles/gallon running on flat ground highway for 2 hours... But I was running maybe 77mph with AC on so maybe that was it.

We were cruising at about 65ish MPH for a solid 4hrs to get that mpg.
