Thank you for the gasket link. I was recommend the incorrect valve cover gasket from Auto-zone, as well as my own online research. I only realized this when I opened up the valve cover! I couldn’t find the gasket, or use my car until I watched this video. I have a Mazda 3 2012 hatchback with skyactiv engine. Thank you!

I just replaced my spark plugs tonight and found oil leaking around the oil control valve. Thank you for this video, looks like I’ll be doing this repair in the near future… and I have the 2012 hatchback skyactive. Think I need these same exact parts? Thank you so much!!

Good job on replacing the VVT actuator seal. This seal (only in a different size) is also found on the pre-Skyactive L engine (2.0/2.3/2.5) used on everything from early 2000s on, but this step is missed in most videos on the subject. By the way, it looks like on this engine variable timing is applied to the exhaust camshaft, which is quite unusual.

I was just doing a different valve cover job and decided to peek at my skyactiv - sure enough there was the same leak! Thanks for putting together such a great video! Please continue adding more 2013 Mazda content! Also glad to see I'm not the only one who needs to insulate those hoses from rattling against the Megan Racing bar haha!

Thanks for the video, I have the same 2013 mazda 3 with the leak from oil control valve seal, planning to change it after this winter.

Thanks for the video. Just noticed my VVT gasket is also leaking and I was having a tough time finding out which valve cover gasket to get. I keep finding two different styles but this confirms it should have the round plug seals.

that is wayyyy to much gasket maker you put on there, you only need a small amount on the corners where the gasket might not cover fully just to help it seal not the hole arc you covered

My 2010 Mazda 3 also is leaking from the VVT actuator seal. Im thinking this could be the reason I have to top off my oil with a quart or two in between oil changes. My question is do you really think that little thing is causing me to lose 2 quarts of oil every couple months???? The leak clearly doesn’t look like 2 quarts but it is most certainly leaking, the whole left side is wet. Maybe it’s burning up? My car has no smoke in tail pipe or engine bay. Makes me thinks it’s not burning oil but leaking. Waiting for your response
@lsccarvideos11 ай бұрын
If that left side is wet it could be the valve cover that's leaking. Hard to tell from the description.
@CryptoTVOfficial11 ай бұрын
@@lsccarvideos you think like a leak of that size. 2 quarts in between oil changes? Maybe 5months after oil change
@lsccarvideos11 ай бұрын
Seems like a lot, sounds like it's burning it, but you said no smoke. So unless it's going into the coolant, my guess is it's running down the side somewhere.
@BokeyJakeАй бұрын
If it's not the valve cover gasket or the solenoid, take off your skid plate and check for oil leaking on the drivers side of the motor. It could be a seeping rear main seal.

Recording videos took me a bit longer, but I probably could have done the whole job in about 2 hours.

How does this leak affect performance of the car? I see I have some oil leaking into my second spark plug, so I’ll doing this tomrorow, but I haven’t notice any issues
@lsccarvideos6 ай бұрын
If it's getting into the spark plug tubes, it will eventually start to cause a misfire.

Unplugging all of this won’t cause the ECM to throw a bunch of unnecessary codes will it?
@lsccarvideos11 ай бұрын
I had zero issues with my ECU when I did mine. As long as you don't try and start the car with it all unplugged.
@BokeyJakeАй бұрын
It shouldn't. I've done this before and have never had an issue unless something else went bad and screwed up.

1st guy to show where the silicone goes. Hey. can I use bathroom silicone or whatever?? Thanks❤❤❤
@lsccarvideos10 ай бұрын
I'm honestly not sure if you can use that or not. I'm going to say I'd recommend an automotive brand silicone just dure to the temperature and contact with oil. I don't know if bathroom silicone can put up with those.

Materials engineer here, do not do that it will not survive thermal heat cycles.

Anything else you could use to lube the gasket? Would power steering fluid work?
@lsccarvideos Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't recommend power steering fluid. I'd say use some engine oil to lubricate it if you had nothing else.
@BokeyJakeАй бұрын
Typical transmission fluid has alcohol in it. It'll make the grommet soft, swell, and potentially lead to early failure.

5 ft lbs for the valve cover bolts?? Man I feel like it would still leak with only 5 lbs
@lsccarvideos11 ай бұрын
Yea it seems low but being a plastic valve cover you don't want to over torque them or you might crack it. Mine hasn't leaked since I did the repair.
