ali warraich I’ve been researching these car exclusively over the the past 8 months trying to decide which way to go. Anything past 2010 (2010 and older, head bolt issues), so 2011 and newer appears to the the best out of the big three...Merc s/e550, BMW 550/750i and the Audi A8. Each have their own issue, however the Merc appears to the the best pick overall. In the BMW 8cyl, valve stem seals, $25 in rubber seals, $5000 to replace them. Having said that, there appears to be an additive “Forte” that is supposed to soften the seals up again, enough so you can avoid replacement...apparently... there are also some timing chain/guide issues and potentially VANOS problems. From what I understand BMW addressed some of these issues 2014 and newer. The A8, timing chain...which is an motor out task as the timing chain is in the back of the motor. I am looking for 2011 and newer, leaning towards the Merc however may have a line on a well sorted BMW 750i. All them, e550, 750 and A8 you have to watch out for the air suspension, if it loses its air overnight, then be prepared to replace the bags....and compressors changed after 100k All of this is just imho, from the info I have found, there are other factors as well including but not limited to electrical...sensors that can go bad. All cars need work, these are no exception. Get service records. See what has or hasn’t been replaced. Check how the car has been owned...and maintained.

@@canadiankrispybacon1450 thanks for detailed review and i really wanted w212 e class with the twinturbo in 2012 air suspension i could afford but after researching it has some weird issues for instance there been bad transfer cases and to repair that you have to change the transmission as well and another anoying issue is camshaft sensor leaking oil and that gets in engine wiring harness which cause all sorts of troubles and can cost upto 12k to fix this just pissed me of and not considering that car anymore and i just sold an 2012 x5 35i sold to a junkyard for 2500 after engine completely malfunctioned at 150000 kms so im taking a break from a bmw for a little while when buying i made the sensible decision going the inline 6 n55 which is fairly reliable but i gues i had a lemon

Alan I have the e350, ...funds and availability of decent, sorted out examples within my price range, just didn’t allow it for me right now, but I am always looking...hopefully by next Spring will be rocking the e550. I will be searching more for the 4.7 twin T’s. More specifically I want a 2013, pre facelift...black and tan
