What is there not to like with a Nissan CVT? They make some of the best in the business.

i love the old style pathfinder model such as on the year around 1999~2004. that was the offroad style pathfinder, im driving my 1999 pathtie at 270k and very stable on highway, still going strong and quite!

Yes, Nathan and Roman have criticized for pap review style. I think you get a lot from their drives, and review. It is fun, and I tend to retain the 0 to 60 tests for the cars I am interested in. I think the real world 0 to 60 is very helpful. I am amazed, as is Roman, the slowness of so many vehicles. I want 40 mpg, just not 0 to 60 in 11.5. I have reviewed 0 to 60 in under five, not in my price range.

Thanks for the review dudes. I'm driving one of the last Pathfinders. A 2011. I like the rugged, boxy look than you very much. It's strong, quick and NEVER fears my aggressive right foot. I'm Leasing it which means when I give this back, the new version is what's waiting for me. Cool bells & whistles but not very happy about the style. Noticed you drove a Black one in your Off-Road test. If I decide to go with the new Pathfinder, it must be in Black. Otherwise, I'm off to the Jeep dealer.

For those complaining about the direction the Pathfinder has taken, just look at all of their other models. The Maxima has now become a luxury sedan, Altima has taken over Maxima's old spot as the midsize sedan, Sentra has now taken over Altima's spot. The Pathfinder appeals to the masses for what a car this size would be used for. You want something to go offroad with, now you have the Xterra. I'm sure the Pathfinder could find many paths off road, just not many with boulders.

Agreed. I previously had an '02 Maxima and '07 Murano, and while the Murano was decent (didn't like the CVT), the Maxima was definitely a beast. Torque steer galore, but I could always see past that. :) Now I have an '05 Titan with the VK56, and it's the same beast but in truck form. I've always been critical of Nissan for their quality falling shy of Toyota and Honda, but they have always been fun vehicles to drive.

This is perfectly fine for people who don't drive off road and don't like minivans... i like it. There's always the xterra for nissan loyalists who want to go off road

Nice review. I don't like what they did with the Pathfinder after 2004 anyway so I'm not surprised this was turned into an SUV. The only one's that remain true off-roaders are the Jeep Liberty, Toyota 4Runner and Nissan Xterra, which I hear they are discontinuing. Don't know how true that is but I read that in the comments section on a video review of a new Xterra.

It's on my short list but like you say 6.5" of ground clearance. Luckily my "offroading" is limited to rough country roads and short grass. AWD in a big car like that is still useful in the snow and rain on tarmac though.

Looks really good, the front looks too big though almost like the lights and grille should be scaled down to size. The switchgear though looks dated especially just below the nav system. That panoramic sunroof is really awesome good call on that Nissan.

I'm more interested in this vehicle than I should be... Nice combination of fuel economy and power, too bad the ground clearance isn't an inch or two greater.

Nissan increased their Pathfinder Sales by 300% when releasing this new design. It is unfortunate for those who liked the old model but the new model is a big hit. Meaning, they are not going back. As of matter of fact, I think the other models are in danger as well. Mark my words, the Armada is the next on their hit list in my opinion. I own the 2015 Pathfinder and I would not have it any other way. Is this good for road or dirt riding? You bet! You are planing to haul on weekends? Bang on! However, if you are planing to take this puppy off road, you are better bringing the old Pathfinder along to pull you out of your misery 'cause I doubt you will make it further than 20ft in the woods. The new model marked the end of an era, plain and simple.

CVTs are the future of automatic transmissions

Never underestimate the VQ35... never. My '03 Maxima still outpulls most new cars from a dead stop, the torque curve is so flat and meaty even modern V6s have a hard time to keep up.

We bought the new 2013 Nissan Pathfinder (SL version 45K) in January/13. By now, the SUV broke down 4 times: transmission hose fell off (the car had to be towed), overdrive did not work from the beginning, front lights burnt out, trunk door rubbed paint off the car due to bad alignment. All of these are manufacturing defects. We highly recommend this vehicle if you like to drive dirty service cars or unsuccessfully deal with Nissan Customer Service.

you have no idea how much i agree with you but most people dont realize its a different transmission because majority just jump in and drive and sell the car at after 5 years.

So what kind of gas mileage does that 14-year-old explorer get? I just looked it up, and for 1998 it gets 14 city and 18 on the highway... and that's on the older, more generous system that overrated gas mileage. The new Pathfinder gets 20 city and 26 on the highway on the newer, more realistic system. The new Pathfinder is also a BIGGER car with more luxury, more technology, higher passenger capacity, and a smaller engine. What were you saying about the difference in engineering?

This is just like the other crossovers. They are all the same now. Even the Jeep Grand Cherokee is now a crossover too with unibody design and independent suspension.

Nissan had to compete with the Explorer, Highlander, Durango, Traverse, etc etc. Something like this was due for them to stay competitive in the marketplace. The old Pathfinder didn't sell... sorry people of youtube, but that is the market. Want to stay in business? Make what the market wants.

The last of them is the Xterra. Hopefully it stays trucky.

I suspect Nissan will sell a lot of these in Canada..

I'm going to take your "answer" to my question with a grain of salt because my old 2003 Ranger didn't even get close to that sort of gas mileage with the same engine. I really tried on that vehicle too, but the gas mileage was abysmal. I have no reason to believe that an SUV based on the same platform got better gas mileage than a compact truck. Keep trying.

5000 Pounds Towing capacity and a CVT? Really, I question how long it would hold up in real world conditions.

This car is like a 7 passenger Murano

Since its based on the JX, id rather spend the extra for that long as it'd perform the same. I just don't like the new look. And that's not even the fact its now a parking-lot-finder. I personally just don't like it. And it scares me how much I'm waiting on a frontier redesign and expecting to be let down.

The interior is a sea of tan. It's a Nissan, so it can't be very good. When they were doing the 0-60, I was like "when is it going to shift" later to realize, it was a CVT. . . .

You can't just return a new car like you'd return a pair of jeans. Sorry, but it doesn't work that way. If anything, the guy would have to start the lemon law process (which varies from state to state), but that takes a lot of time and usually includes a lot of aggravation as well.

I see why Nissan had to emasculate the Pathfinder. The CVT is good tech, but I fear they are going crazy with it. Nissan needs to limit the CVT to the Altima, Sentra, Rogue, Versa and Murano. If true Nissan customers want sporty they need to be able to look forward to a 7speedAT Maxima, Pathfinder and other rugged sport vehicles. Also Nissan is keeping the Xterra as its off-Road vehicle

Better be improved.My 05 has 125k miles and is falling apart. transmission, radiator, wheel bearings ,fuel sensor, timing chain tensioners. Just paid it off and 9k in repairs. Never again Nissan!!!!

Please don't hammer this car by saying it looks like the dodge durango from the side...HELL NO....It does not look anything like durang or any dodge products...No way.

The pathfinder has turned into a ford flex. Really made for the passengers, not the offroading. I would never buy one of these, since it has a CVT. I think by 2020 Nissan will have CVTs in everything they make. From GTR to sentra.

Nissan should changed the name on this car, this is no longer a PathFinder, the only path it finds is to the Mall, the grossery store and the soccer classes for the kids on weekends. This is how a company pussyficates a great Off Roader.

Man this thing reminds me of the Ford Windstar. Remember that? Then Ford wanted some feedback from the soccer moms and it sank like the Titanic. Such a shame. And as with all these reviews, what do all the car companies say folks are looking for? "Fuel Economy" That's right kids.
