I have a BRZ and I like your attitude. You were so calm and collected when you were describing the mistakes.

I appreciate that. I wish I could say I am always that calm.

hope you still got this channel active. Bought one recently engine was blown. My questions is can the original blown block me renewed or rebuilt? Or is it just worth getting a new block
@Beast1y13372 жыл бұрын
The heads dont have to come off for the recall, that oil passage squeeze out is like that from factory, poor quality control
@diydrake Жыл бұрын
I can’t imagine doing that work with the heads still on.

This happened to me a few months ago. My crank journal had a blockage and destroyed my engine. Currently have the engine in parts. Is it worth reparing or should i also get a short block?
@diydrake2 ай бұрын
At the price of short blocks at the time it was better to buy new.

What oil should i use for the first start? 5w-30? And then after 500 miles change to 0w-20?
@diydrake11 ай бұрын
I used 0-20 for the first start to wash away all of the assembly lubricant.

How much did you spend doing this rebuild?
@diydrake11 ай бұрын
The shortblock was about $2k and everything else probably brought the total to $3k.

And out of no-where someone asks a question! I am in the process of rebuilding my FA20 from a spun bearing, can you provide a bit of info about how you sealed the front timing cover? I have been digging around and went through the shop manual, can't seem to find anyone talking about how to properly put on the sealant to keep it from blowing the motor again (mine was due to valve spring recall as well sadly). Did you go back to stock connecting rods, did you replace the crank?

hey let me know how youre doing, i recently got a spun bearing too! at 20k miles too which is like whaat
@diydrake Жыл бұрын
I bought a new short block from Toyota.

As for sealing the timing cover, it’s a lot of liquid gasket.
