The dedication and hard work that goes into a performance like this is almost incredible . The end of this dance is so physical that it is hard to believe that Charlie actually has asthma and Meryl struggled but, for the most part, met the challenges of dyslexia with grace and determination. They are such a credit to themselves and to our country. God Bless Them Both!!!

This dance is one of my favorites (and I have many). The melodies are so poignant. How they can look at each other the way they do, for so many years, and not be romantically involved is amazing - and frustrating!! I wanted them to complete the fairytale - and marry each other. But that is not to be. Charlie's married to Tanith and Meryl's engaged to Fedor. I wish them all the happiness in the world because they are such fine role models - kind, humble, talented beyond reason, dedicated, patriotic, and with a work ethic that is hard to find nowadays. I just learned from MsDottie that Charlie has asthma and Meryl is dyslexic. No wonder Charlie is exhausted after some of their difficult performances. When I see that, I just want to hug him and make sure he's OK. It's the mom in me, I guess. With Marina's choreography being so intricate, and Meryl being dyslexic, it must be quite a challenge for her as well. These two young athletes deserve all the kudos and medals they have earned. I have read your posts and I know how you feel about them as well. They mean so much to me. I recently lost my wonderful husband and, along with my two sons, Meryl and Charlie have become a source of joy and pride to me. What fine representatives of our country they are!!

I finally watched this without the music and focusing on their blades (ie the skating, not the arm gestures and facial expression). They’re so wonderfully fast, but she was on a flat for like 75% of this performance :(
@advancedtaxonomy11325 жыл бұрын
AmaraEmme that's my main problem with them, you can debate the merits of their artistry and performance vs that of other teams but their skating skills were just not at par. it's particularly ironic given that they were branded the technically superior team and vm the artistic one during that quad
@AmaraEmme5 жыл бұрын
advanced taxonomy yeah, I actually like DW’s theatricality and artistry in their FDs even though they repackaged the same program a few times, but it irks me that they were called more athletic because they *looked like* they were expending more energy [with the aforementioned speed and their wild gestures and music]. They had amazing energy, yet the flipside is that other teams that didn’t look like they were straining as much were doing things that were equally or more difficult.
@advancedtaxonomy11325 жыл бұрын
AmaraEmme AmaraEmme i agree with you choreography and performance-wise, i like this program a lot, but i cannot, for the life of me, fathom how they were getting the levels or goe's on many of their elements. their turns are messy, their edges flat, their toes aren't pointed, and charlie's control on his blades in the SE position during the CuLi is so shaky (also you can't tell if it's supposed to be a straight-line lift or a curve lift until the last 2 seconds). ideally i'd have liked to see those things reflected in their scores. i do love their entrance into their camel spin tho no one does it as well as them
@advancedtaxonomy11325 жыл бұрын
AmaraEmme as for the athletic thing lol they did run/hop across the ice a lot to gain speed (which i hated) but to the untrained eye it could be mistaken for athleticism. i like their rotational lift in this program a lot and different people have different opinions on their lifts which is understandable but generally speaking, meryl lacked the core strength to hold difficult positions in lifts

@@L1623VP you are just making things up because you don’t like Virtue moir for some reason. Oh well, they are still 2x more successful than every ice dancer now & then 🤣
@L1623VP10 ай бұрын
@@aly8950 V&M are two times more successful than any other dance team? Let me enlighten you. Because Canada couldn't legitimately call V&M the "greatest dance team of all time", they made up a new title for them; the "most decorated dance team of all time". All that means is that they won more second and third place medals than anyone else. That's HARDLY a claim for glory. It just means they lost more competitions because they skated longer than anyone else, and it's true. In spite of their very lucky second Olympic gold medal, which Grishuk and Platov accomplished first way back in 1994, here are the win rates of the most-winning ice dance teams of all time in international competition: 1. Papadakis & Cizeron: 69.7% or winning nearly 7 out of every 10 competitions. They won 23 golds in 9 years over 33 competitions. 2. Torville & Dean: 62.5% or winning just over 6 out of every 10 competitions. They won 20 golds in 9 years over 32 competitions. 3. Davis & White: 59.4% or winning nearly 6 out of every 10 competitions. They won 22 golds in 8 years over 37 competitions. 4. Grisuk & Platov: 57.1% or just under 6 out of every 10 competitions. They won 16 golds in 9 years over 28 competitions. 5. Virtue & Moir: 53.6% or winning barely over HALF the competitions they skated in. They won 22 golds in 13 years over 41 competitions. As you can see, of the Top 5 most-winning ice dance teams of all time, V&M rank last. In fact, D&W won the same number of gold medals as V&M (22), but in only 8 years, not 13, AND it took D&W fewer competitions to accomplish it. That's because they dominated their era and were the more winning team. Likewise, P&C won one more gold medal than V&M in only 9 years, not 13, because they, too were a much more winning team, as were T&D and G&P. Interestingly, if V&M had not come back for the 16-17 and 17-18 seasons after losing the Olympics in 2014, their win rate would only have been 43.7% or barely winning 4 out of every 10 international competitions. In other words, LOSING nearly 6 out of 10. Anything under 50% is a losing record. So sorry to burst your bubble, but V&M are nowhere near the most successful ice dance team in history, and that's dealing ONLY with the statistics from the competitive record and has nothing to do with subjective preference for which "style" one might prefer. Numbers don't lie.

@aromaticchicken5184 жыл бұрын
Ice dance has come a LONG way since 2014, and largely due to the French. (just look at how twizzles, which considered a strength for this team, but nowadays davis/White's twizzles would be fairly average or unimpressive.) Back in their time, their step sequences were fairly solid compared to the rest of the field except virtue/moir. And their lifts remain competitive even two Olympic cycles later.
@bellevoor4 жыл бұрын
I mean...have you seen their compulsory programs? This team covers like half the rink on one foot.......
@scavo20033 жыл бұрын
@@aromaticchicken518 Davis and White's lifts are still really good by today's standards though.. they still stand out today, their entries are INSANE. I agree their twizzles are average, but tons of speed and power. If we want to talk about ice dance coming a long way, watch Domnina/Shabalin in 2008-2009. I am shocked by the mediocrity of that team, and they are World Champs.
