Got this a few months ago for my 2015 LE non nav. Im an expert taking my dash apart as I've added some headrest monitors, replaced stock speakers and added a sub. But this kit works and easy to install. Oh and i would recommend getting a 6ft lightning extension cable. I got a 3 ft one at first but realized that sometimes i sat in the back seat. So getting a longer cable would be good for rear passengers.

Just bought my 2018 XLE for $40k and I already hate not having proper navigation/phone integration. I thought I’d have to switch out the whole unit, this is a great hack. I’ll go for it and do a in depth install video.

Here is a 1 year update: I have a iphone6, works great, mirrors everything fine. Can stream netflix, youtube, and hulu. This bypass works great if you want more functionality with your radio, other than just being a dumb radio and navi. I intended to use this bypass originally as a way to mirror my iphone without having to purchase an aftermarket radio. Hopefully newer cars will just let you do this soon. Anyway, still works great.

Hello all, just a quick update from a happy customer. I’ve had this bypass for a while now and still works great. Here are some tips I learned along the way with installing this bypass. The space behind the head unit is very cramped. The first time I installed it, I used a regular 3ft lightning cable. I discovered its a pain in the ass to use your phone with a short cable so I switched it out for a 6ft one instead. Also, you should note that your cable will go bad at some point and will need to be replaced. My solution was to hae a back up ready to go so I have another 6ft cable rolled up next to where it needs to be plugged so I can swap it out really fast. Also, having a longer cable will allow your front and rear passengers to plug their phone and use it. Im a bit of an audio/videophile so I have headrest monitors and a full system. If its too much trouble for you to do, pay someone to do it. Its all plug and play, very simple. Its jist a matter of taking off a few pieces from the dash and 4 screws holding the radio in. And I just learned that Hulu will allow mirroring now so thats a bit of good news. Good luck installing if you bought one. Or just buy a new radio that allows carplay.

When I turn off my (Android) phone will the car screen just go black and I will have to manually have to change it back to where it was before, or it automatically changes back?

It's just mirroring, it's NOT controllable from the car screen, you still have to have your fingers on the phone. For me, I won't go through this hassle, my Android Auto gives me control on the car screen for Google maps, while watching KZfaq on the phone. screen.
