People are sick of being bored. Customers want a little excitement for their hard earned money. We're not talking about feeling like a six-year-old at Disney, but something a little more exhilarating than standing in line at the DMV was sorely needed for both brands. Thankfully, Chevrolet and Toyota's full-size sedans both recently got a much-needed dose of vivacity.

People saying the Impala will not last long? It's one of the longest lasting vehicles in Chevy's line up, next to their trucks. I mean just look at how many 15 year old Impalas you still see on the road!

@@realaudioreviews As a former Toyota repair tech, Toyotas are mostly reliable, but like anything on this planet it depends on how one treats or takes care of the vehicle...I remember one time there was a customer complaining to the service manager about how people kept saying Toyotas would never break down, and he bought a Toyota because of it and now it's going to cost him to repair the vehicle blah blah blah. REMEMBER, there's a reason why there's service shops for Toyotas; they are not immune to breaking down...just like any other vehicle.

Sorry, but the Impala loses strongly against the Lexus-like Avalon. If the decision were based on just the exterior appearances, the Impala should be taken for a make-over, its that ugly. What's up with that grill? The rear portion of the sides of the Impala look as if they are an after-thought in design. Interior quality is pure Chevrolet Amerikan, but maybe when the worlds largest GM factory opens in Communist China next year, perhaps the quality will improve. The V-6 in both cars run very strong, but the 3.6 of the Impala seems almost as if it's out of balance somehow. Lots of vibration in the upper rpm range during acceleration at highway speed. The Avalon's V-6 is liquidly smooth. Comparing both interiors, the Avalon seems to have taken the materials straight from Lexus. The Impala's bulkiness and overweight, almost motorhome-like size and weight, actually make driving the Impala a chore on a long distance trip. There is a lot of body-roll, like a 1958 Buick Roadmaster. The Avalon on the other hand is more like driving a detuned Lexus IS350, with the driver wishing the trip could take longer.

Anyone who thinks Chevy is ever going to be as reliable as the Toyota needs to wake up. I guess this was a bone that these guys threw to the “buy America” crowd. I test drove both of these vehicles. I test drive the Avalon and had ended up in an impala rental. The impala has a nicer ride, but that nonsense about the braking and the road noise is just incomprehensible to me. Not my experience. Lastly, while these guys compared the Chevy to the Cadillac base, they forgot to mention the Avalon is based on the Lexus ES. If you pull back the seat so your legs are comfortable then you cant reach the steering wheel- your arms are literally fully stretch. It is a hard choice because the Avalon holds it's value better, and lasts longer. I guess since Impala is being discontinued with a lot of other GMs, parts might be hell to get in the future. Avalon, as far as now is continuing, and I don't think it will, since it is one of the fewer choices now for a sedan on a new car lot. Many sedans are being discontinued since people are now buying trucks, SUVs, and crossovers. I really like Impalas, and have a 2001 with 248,000 miles, and running good, but was meticulously maintained, and was easy with startups. I rented an Impala for a vacation, and hated to take it back. It was so unbelievably nice, and drove so well.

Definitely on the General Motors Payroll........ Chevrolet will never ever be as good as Toyota..... all vehicles are good when they are new but when the miles pile up that's when Toyota shines. On the Chevys shit start tearing up. Also must add 10 years pass by and you want to sale the Toyota re sale along higher. So it's a no brainer...Toyota rules.

Chevy paid good money for this video. The Impala is so much cheaper in feeling than the Avalon. Though it have 35 less HP, the Toyota is just as quick, if not quicker. Bigger trunk, more legroom? The Avalon is enough for a family of 5 6'5"ers in it's seats... The things mentioned by these guys to lean towards Impala is found in the LTZ but that's a false impression because the 4 cylinder base is he most basic car and so far beneath a basic Avalon... I don't even think the Impala is in the same class. A moveable LCD screen is fine for a car that's only good for 5 years but I'm sure it will be an expensive repair. I still see the 1998 Avalon's everywhere. Most 1998 Luminas are wrecked in junkyards.... Don't let these guys fool you into cheap made products.

I had a 2001 Impala LS for 12 years and loved it. Lot of car for the money. Got 34 mpg on the road which is outstanding. Though I loved it the quality just was not there. Kept meticulous records and averaged $474 a year on mtce bearing in mind I did a lot of the work myself such as replacing the fuel pump in the tank and taking the dash apart and fixing instrument lighting problem. Got so I could Google " 2001 Impala and the mileage" and tell what going to break next. Bought a new Camry at the end of 2013 and have enjoyed the peace of mind. My wife has a 2005 Avalon for over 10 years and mtce has averaged $228 a year so you can see the quality. The Avalon gets about 30 mpg on the road and is a fine machine with a great ride. We plan on keeping it another 5 years. It has a much smoother ride than my 2014 Camry. I still love the stylish new Impala but I love quality more.

The best car here is the 2014 Lexus ES350, buy one at about $40,000 with mid level options, it has smaller 17" wheels that, what do you know ride fucking better than the 18" or 19" top trim level Impala/Avalon wheel options. Of course used I still think the ES350 is a better buy than the Avalon for several reasons, a 2014 Impala has that POS GM 3.6 V6 which is notorious for throwing its timing chain after 5-6 years.

Just because Toyotas have a good reputation doesn't mean the Avalon will last longer. Chevy increased their quality building in this Impala. They went after the luxury market and have a totally different model here. I think both are 170,000+ mile cars, but are you really going to have a car that long? Most people will get to 100,000 or 120,000 and be ready for a new car anyways. Besides, the old model of the Impala were legendary rental cars, so they were good for putting alot of hard miles on them.

The guy introducing the Avalon was obvious biased against Impala. He only mentioned that Avalon's rear legroom was about half inch shorter than the Impala's, but what he did not tell you was that the Impala has a gigantic advantage in the front legroom, 3.7 inches more exactly. The Impala is a real large car, but the Avalon is not.

The engine/trans combination in the avalon is great. I i've the same combination in my 08 camry and it's surprisingly fast. The reason is the first 3 gears are geared to pick up speed fast so it makes the car feel faster. Yes the Chevy has more power but it's also heavier.

I’ve Bought my 4th Impala this one the LT with Pano Roof and Red Tint Paint (extra cost beautiful) almost 2 years ago (2017) and it gets better and better. What sold me after test driving 4 others cars right before (Loaded Civic, New Camry Loaded, New Sonata Limited, and Loaded Malibu) was the Looks, the Size, Quietness, Ride comfort, Handling, and the MYLINK with Google Maps, and Waze Android Auto, 4G LTE Hot Spot, Messaging by voice and using Google with no input except Voice all for less money than all the cars I drove before. I knew there was a Great Deal to be had with the demise of large sedans. The sticker Same as Sonata, Camry, almost as much as Malibu was $34K and I offered $25,500 and lifetime power train warranty. Less than the Civic Sticker, and I signed and had the car less than 2 hours. My only regret 2 years later was I should of opted for the Safety package it was merely $600 more at the time. I would of had to wait for them to locate a car and this was in stock with 2 base White models and a fully loaded Premier in White. The looks I got and still get from ALL AGES and the MPG is great! Did I mention AUTO START from my smart phone or key fob? Did I mention you can see how others are driving your car if you lend it out?

These two must be off there meds. A schizophrenic must have designed the Impala. I get vertigo just looking at it. No smooth lines, transitions that break abruptly and don't get me started on the interior. Looks like a Vegas slot machine. Inside and out the Avalon is so easy on the eyes. The only gripe I have with Toyota is the Avalon should have an edge in power over the Camry engine. 268hp since 2006. Even Honda comes out with 280 up in their Accord. Step up the ponies Toyota!

TOYOTA HAS THIS MOTTO " do not fix what is not broken"!!!! Competitors have to constantly change the engines to make them better year after year, whereas Toyota do not need to do that because its already powerful enough...The engines in Toyota have been the same since 1999 and that says it all.. no need to change if its working.. The only time I will even drive an American car is through rental companies lol for like a weekend holiday but other than that I will stick with Japanese all day long..
@tbirdboy

I agree with your latter comment about driving Japanese over American. It's just a historical fact that Japanese car longevity is superior than American counterparts. Though my point was and really the moral of the story is "Don't rest on your laurels!". Just because Toyota produces a time tested product doesn't mean it shouldn't be improved upon. The Tundra hasn't made any inroads on increasing HP on it's sole full size pickup. As good as it is The Big 3 have caught up since 2007. And the Tundra has been losing marketshare since. And the bottom line in this industry is to make money. Risk vs Reward. And Toyota in my opinion isn't taking any unfortunately. Own a '07 Tundra 5.7, '11 Lexus CT200h and '15 Camry XLE Hybrid btw.
