In this video we’ll be changing the coolant temperature sensor on my 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 5.3 V8 Lt.. this problem of it reading 160 as I’m on the highway occured before, but I changed the battery and it was back to reading like normal. 2-3weeks later reading 160 again... Not many videos are made about this, so we decided to make one. ENJOY! Like & Subscribe for more DIY videos!

Had a similar issue and was going to change both the sensor and the thermostat being they are next to eachother.... Decided to chang the thermo first as I'm an old timer and have owner my share of vehicles and never had a coolant sensor go bad. Changing the thermostat did the trick for my situation. Great video appreciate you taking the time to do it!

Appreciate this video because you showed how simple this was and the part was only 15.99 a shop was trying to charge me 150 to 200 dollars to install this part? And was trying to tell me to change my radiator also. Big ups for video you just saved me alot of money.

Read this first……. All of these videos are missing this. If the fan stays on after shutting off the engine and comes on immediately and never indicates it’s warming up, it has a code 128, (which does not give you a check engine light). So first reset that code, the fan will immediately turn off. The problem causing it may be intermittent, so watch the temp gage, if it goes to around 180 but never gets up to a normal range, it is the thermostat partially allowing water to get out of the engine before it reaches the proper temp. The ECM will allow this without a code into it reaches a point where the water is just too cold, then it will lock a code 128. At that point the fan is going to stay on until the code is cleared. To verify it’s the thermostat and not the sensor, compare the temp of the top rad hose under normal situation around 210, to the hose when it is indicating 180…. It won’t be as hot because the sensor is working but the thermostat is malfunction. Verify this before replacing your genuine GM sensor with an unknown aftermarket. Buy the original AC Delco thermostat from Rock Auto for around $40. If it’s the sensor, then when the gage reads 180, the top hose will be hotter, since it should be 210. The reason most of these videos show that after the sensor change, the fan stays on is because they are not resetting the code, the ones where the fan shuts off after is because they disconnected the battery, which reset the code. So then they think they have a fix, but if the vehicle temp doesn’t stay around 210, it’s the thermostat!

Having this same problem with a 14 camaro ss. No check engine light but says ac off to due high engine heat. Temperature and oil temp flat lined. Should I replace the sensor or just try to reset it
@masdbo
@masdbo 2 ай бұрын
@@johnarney1306 I don’t have experience with there Camaro. That being said, assuming the same engine system, you have to determine if it’s really running too hot. The ECM may be saying it’s too hot because it never reaches its correct temp, so it shuts down as a precaution, it assumes the sensor is bad. Reset the code, then run the engine and monitor with the idea it’s not getting hot enough. Watch the temp gage, if as mine, it never got hot enough because of the leaking thermostat. I would suspect it before the sensor.

@@masdbo both gauges show flat line. Battery voltage randomly spiked last night and I believe it blew both sensors. Fans run high and have oil pressure. Hear no bubbling or hissing as signs of the engine being to hot. About to change the coolant temperature sensor now. I’ll keep you updated.

Thanks for the video. The only thing I would add is that on a 2016 Chevy Tahoe, the ECT sensor is right next to the thermostat and in a tight space. So when you remove the harness plug from the sensor you need to be aware that you just cannot pull off the harness cap. It is snapped in place. So you have to first remove the light colored horizontal plastic piece from the harness cap so you can pinch the black release tab when pulling off the harness from the sensor. Otherwise, just pulling it off could damage the plastic harness cap.

I have a 2016 Silverado Ltz and the radiator fan stays on the entire time the truck is running. Also the ac don’t get cold until 10-30 minutes. Then is blows super cold all day. @brianbaptiste6194
@brianbaptiste6194 2 жыл бұрын
Fans staying on, indicating the truck believes its hot, but the temperature gauge is reading normal. Ac doesn’t get cold until a few minutes into the drive, that one is confusing.. no codes, I would say try changing the thermostat, it would make the fans come on if believed to be getting hot, my thermostat gave a P128 code, if I remember correctly. Good luck!
