Thanks for creating this video. My 2014 has the same issue with only 70k on the odometer. Loved your comment about engineers. I am one and totally agree with you. Sometimes engineers are overuled by the bean counters. :(

Great video, Thank You! A couple of comments that may be helpful. Diagnosis: My driver-side door window would work intermittently. I found if I squeezed the boot between the door and the jamb while operating the switch, I could make the window work. Installation: Connecting the new harness to the door jamb (Not very clear in the vid). Make sure you pull the boot back beyond the connector (if you don't, the side of the boot may prevent the pink lock from closing). Push the new connector into its socket (you don't have to get it all the way in). Then raise the pink lock and you will see the connector get sucked into place. If it doesn't, open the pink lock and try again (make sure the pink lock is as far down (open) as it will go when you insert the connector). Then cover it w/the boot.

Yep I got exactly the same problem on my 14 Sierra with 147,000 clicks. Winter driving and kids always going in on the drivers side. It all makes sense now. This truck is completely falling apart at the 9 year mark. Front Diff bearings, control arms, transmission problems, high pressure fuel pump, lifter issues, ball joints, wiring issues, its an absolute nightmare. Today the passenger air bag coded out. As a consumer I think we just need to unload these vehicles after about the 7-8 year mark.

The Honda Civic & CRV door harnesses are prone to that (but usually doesn’t happen until the car is 15 years old).

All manufacturers using lighter wires due to lower current and they are all trying to save on every ounce or gram of weight. And copper is not free either. Thinner wires cost less. Phillip, do they just sell a pig tail and not the complete harness? Update us on the price if you wish. We know this wires breaking is common, but I have seen customers spend cash on new switches door latches just to find out later it was wires in the door jamb.

The topology is pretty accurate on Chrysler fords Toyota. They’re actually labeled correctly on those instead of how they are on gm.

Mine started having problems when the weather was really cold this winter. It seemed like that's when all the problems started. It's just in the driver's door on my 2017 1500. What harness do I look for?

Just replaced my front passenger wire harness since dash indicated passenger door open and window doesnt go down. Do i also need to replace driver door wire harness since the door ajar light is on and power window isn't working still?

Do you have the part number for that harness? I can't seem to find it.

😢 its like they try and figure out whats the thinnest wire they can make and say , now we can install it. Plastic coating on wires hate heat and cold. That pretty much sums up America. Great Job GM. G.M. Gauge...? Minimum .

Wow, those are some really cheap components GM used. Shame on GM for skimping on wire like that. Terrible manufacturing practices, and I'm sure it has only gotten worse since 2014. btw, I assumed the topology feature on those Chinese scanners was a gimmick. but hearing you speak well of it makes me think they might have some value.

Non-existent quality control and cheap product quality. Corporate greed, meanwhile we keep giving them a free ride taxwise.
