2014 Honda Civic HondaLink Infotainment Review and Tutorial

The big news for 2014 is Honda's all-new 7-inch touchscreen HondaLink infotainment system. The new smartphone integrated system runs a version of Honda's familiar software adapted to a single screen interface with touch and slide gesture commands. While you can opt for standard navigation in the EX-L with Navigation model, the EX and EX-L trims integrate Honda's new iPhone integrated nav option which costs just $65 (plus a cable) and reminds me of GM's Bringo integrated navigation system. (In a good way.) I have long thought that this type of solution is the way to go and Honda has found a way to make it work even without Apple's CarPlay software interface being finalized. Sadly Android owners will have to wait a while before a similar solution is available for them.

Nice review. I currently lease a 2014 EX-L Civic with Navi, and I'm quite happy with it. Let me know if you have any questions! I purchased the cable for my iPhone and I like what I've seen so far. I haven't had time to play with it much, but so far so good. The factory Navi is a giant improvement over my 2012 Civic w/ Navi, as well as my prior 2009 and 2007 Accord.

You said it is slightly different with changing it when you have navi. 2015 Si models do not have any of those nobs so I can't figure out how to get to that menu. Anyway you would know?

Nitpicky question about this stereo: if audio files contain album art and these files are read from USB flash drives (not the iPhone) will the screen show the album art, or will it just show the USB icon? If anyone knows the answer to this (because they tried it themselves) please get back to me. Thanks.

Do u know how I can make screen bigger I have Honda hrv 2018 when I use cable hdmi just I seen half i try how I can see every thing and screen but nothing and I turn my iPhone still same please if u know let me know thank u

i have an galaxy note 3 and all i want is the rich audio that is normally received from an Aux port. This car of course, doesn't provide that and the usb doesn't work on android as it's unsupported. Can I achieve a direct connect for audio using an MHL adapter & the Hdmi cord?

If you use the navigation through the app, will you be burning through your data plan? Or the entire map for the country is in the app itself?

you will be running the data from your iPhone.

It is my understanding that it is both. There is a WiFi only download for the base maps and then it would use your data plan for traffic, POI updates, etc. So that way you can still navigate when you're out of cell coverage but it won't update the traffic info, etc.

You can use it on the phone but it won't show on the car's screen.

Wont kill it. If you're worried you can cache maps so you don't need data. Assuming you can use native GPS app on your phone.

This can not be added to the 2013 Honda Civic of any trim level.

It can be added. It will just cost money. I even talked to a guy at Honda. He said he could. There will be extra wiring going on, but it is possible.

So stupid, I just want a volume and tuning knob , aux or Bluetooth, regular climate control dials and I do the rest of the technical stuff like GPS or Pandora with my phone if need be. Automakers make the worst interfaces
