The presenter's voice has an easy, soothing tone that probably helps him appear very approachable to prospective buyers and helps him sell a lot of cars. HOWEVER, regardless of how fast the car is, he, himself, exhibits rapid and effortless acceleration, going from idle to "auctioneer" in a couple of seconds! Even myself, as a native speaker of Canadian English and a teacher of English as a foreign language, had such trouble making out what he was saying that I had to turn the playback down to 3/4 speed. Even at that pace, he still lost - and substantially discouraged - some of my advanced students, who prided themselves on their listening skills. It was a big blow to their confidence. I used this video as an example of a problematic "real life" situation. Because my job obliges me to be a pedant - my apologies - I must point out a phrase. It should be "...MATED to an automatic transmission" (rhymes with hate, ate, skate), not MATTED (rhymes with fat, sat, flat). The former means joined or coupled; the latter means compressed into a fibrous surface. Also, as a potential car buyer, I was left wondering about the engine, which was NEVER mentioned. To keep my criticism constructive, try to bear in mind that - especially in a cosmopolitan city, like Calgary - you will have a fair number of buyers who are non-native speakers of English; maybe their second language, but often even their third. If wondering how to pace yourself without sounding like you're condescending to them, treating them like they're not intelligent (rather than just challenged with the language), imagine someone who ONLY spoke French, trying to sell you this vehicle. At what pace would you still be able to follow what they're telling you? It's my hope that my comments MIGHT help you keep some buyers' anxiety and frustration down, and result in a couple more car sales this year.
