Got a request to revisit this not-so-old (by our standards) gem, so… why not?
The Redskins and Eagles squared off in this oddly dubbed Thursday Night Football game - played on a Saturday (how hard is it to change the graphics, gang?) - in what would be the beginning of the end for former college football fancy-pants Chip Kelly.
Kelly’s brief but meteoric coaching rise in the NFL started with a win over the Redskins to start the ’13 season, one which would see the previously struggling Eagles run off with a surprise division title and set sky-high expectations for the Chipster. So, it’s only fitting the Redskins should return the favor the following season and bring Kelly and the Eagles crashing down to Earth. Sure, the ’14 Eagles were in the playoff hunt again - until this game. The 3-11 (ugh) Redskins ended a six-game schnide with this surprisingly entertaining upset win in front of a holiday-addled full house (maybe it was free egg-nog day), handing the Iggles a defeat that would ultimately doom their playoff hopes. It was all downhill from there as Gang Green would follow with a disappointing (to some, I guess) 7-9 ’15 season that featured a pair of delightful Redskin wins, the second kicking the Philly to the post-season curb. It was a defeat that would be the proverbial last straw, with Kelly unceremoniously dumped after that game despite one game left in the ’15 season. Ouch.
RGIII looked surprisingly composed in this one, while the Redskins rushing attack made a mockery of the Eagles goal-line defense (were they even trying?). Fumble-fingered Philly started and ended the game with turnovers, the last one a true a season-killer that the Redskins turned into a last-second field goal to cement the upset win. Merry Christmas from Mark Sanchez, 'Skins fans. This would be the start of a lovely little joyride for Washington, the first of five straight wins over the Eagles (don’t see that too often… or ever again, it seems).
Kenny Albert and some guy that talked too much on the call from this uncommonly lovely December day in DC.

Great to see a Kerrigan strip sack in the first few minutes. He was a great player for us. Too bad he played on so many horrid teams.

I hate the name change so much that i now miss seasons like 2013 or 2019. Those teams were absolutely terrible, but at least they were still the Redskins

We had a great series with Philly that year. The DJax reunion game back in Week 3 where Kirk threw for 400 and then this one. And then this one, the last win RG3 would have with the Skins.

This basically knocked the Eagles out of the playoffs. And Chip Kelly never rebounded.

A uncharacteristically bad day for a rookie Eagles PK, who up until this game late in the 2014 season, had actually had a superb, statistical season until he ended up having the worst possible day yet of his young professional career. Those missed FG's hurt Eagles chances to keep the game tied or close and allowed Redskins to extend their lead further into the 4th quarter. I don't say this because I'm some Eagles fan (I'm actually a Saints fan), but it would be more understandable if Parkey's missed FG's were like 48, 49, 50-yard+ distance FG attempts, but they were relatively short-distance kicks that HOF PK's like Morten Andersen, Veniteri, now Justin Tucker and yes, even Stephen Gostowski made almost-blind-folded throughout their individual careers.
