Keep in mind that you can buy a Sportsman 570 for $6,499, what it cost back in the 90s when it came out.There are also a few good models under 5K. You're right though. ATV manufacturers need to understand that our average incomes have barely increased, unlike the price of most of the ATVs being sold. If people stopped financing and only purchased what they could afford to pay cash for, we might see some major price drops, or development of more affordable ATVs. Affordability is a big factor in what made ATVs great in the first place.

ATVonDemand Thats exactly right. The ratio of cash purchases vs financing has to be astoundingly unbalanced. I can see 2 things easily happening. First they default after a while, and second youre going to see a lot of used machines on the market for sale without titles, much worse than today. The foundation of riding and life long customers starts at an early age. I cant help but feel like the companies are just flat out passing on the affordability market and going for a totally different atmosphere of riders of which only certain few get to play.

+ATVonDemand people finance bc it's a means of getting what they can't afford but what they don't realize is they pay twice what the item is worth and by the time they get done paying for said item and what to up grade they can't get even half of what they paid

+damnationdefied777 I bought two new quads in 2007 (Yamaha Grizzly 450 & Suzuki Z400) and another new one in 2008 (Can-Am DS 450X). I went back in the dealership this past weekend to look at upgrading my Z400 and I found out two things. 1) 2wd Sport (race) quads are no longer a thing, and 2) The prices have gotten ridiculous. Ten grand for a quad, twenty to thirty grand for a SxS. Get real. I was happy to buy new in the mid 2000's, (and I had less money then than I do now). But current prices have me only looking at used.

Dirttrax compares the Rene to the 850. The 1000 is just an 850 with some motor work and dual exhausts so you can kinda see how they would compare.

ghmkij Wow. I completely forgot about this comment. I hate Yamaha now. Awhile ago I found out that their Raptors and YFZs are complete unreliable shit.

Justin Christopher I've heard that from a lot of different sources. I have a Honda right now, but looking at a Can-Am or Polaris Sportsman, but am starting to shy away from the Sportsman due to the negative comments about reliability with Polaris.

sldl04 Oh yeah stay the hell away from Polaris. Belt problems is all I have to say. Arctic Cat ATVs may not be as bad as Polaris but they have their problems as well. I don't know what the problem is over at Yamaha Corp but their Raptors and YFZs are liking ticking time bombs. Full bored they seem to blow up. Go with either Honda, Can Am, or Kawasaki.

Justin Christopher I'm getting a 2010 Can-Am Outlander 500 MAX this week--only 253 miles on it. I've heard nothing but good about their quads. Hopefully this will be a good one as well.

They said over 85 at the intro. We were told 86. On their website it says 89. I guess the official number at this point is 89hp

I have over 3500 miles on my 850 and have never had trouble with its belt or axels. I don't ride in thick mud either we have none around here. Clutch kit and gorilla axels will fix those problems though.

Oh yeah, its heavy and pricey but fast and fun.
