The Dodge Charger is quite simply the best full-size sedan to drive in this segment. If you're shopping for an Avalon, Cadenza, Impala, Azera, Taurus or Accord, the Charger needs to be at the top of your shopping list.

Thanks for commenting on the quietness of the vehicle, although I think I agree with you...I'd either go for the 392 or I'd get the Chrysler 300 (I like the exterior of the 300S but the interior of the Platinum). FINALLY Alex!!!!! I was dying to see what you thought about this new Charger. Honestly I can go on for days about how impressive this thing is. But the Car sells itself. It's a great all around package. This car stands in it's own segment which makes it flexible meaning there's a charger for EVERYBODY that's a plus. &Furthermore, it's 2grand Less than it's outgoing model in every trim level other than SE which makes it appeal more bc it's more affordable. Plus that 8speed is just a DOLL to live with. I've driven 5 different 2015 Chargers and that 8speed is just Lovely. I'm really excited to buy this thing this summer. I'm getting that exact trim, RT Road&Track for Less than I got my RT Max ! Saving money at the door, and it's more efficient. Dodge Scored a Home run on this bad boy.

Great review as always Alex and I was particularly looking forward to seeing this one. You have become my first source of information when I am researching a vehicle. I have been considering getting a SRT 392 for a little while. Couple of questions: you haven't commented about the adaptive cruise control and pre-collision systems. How well do they work? Is the pre-collision able to bring the vehicle to a full stop and if so from what maximum road speed? Thanks.

Hey Alex. Great review as always. I just picked up a 2015 Chrysler 300S AWD and your review is one of the reviews that helped a great deal in my decision making. Quick question. I live in Minnesota and I am looking for a car for my wife who doesn't have a lot of experience driving in the snow. But her commute to work mostly includes driving on the highway and a little bit of city. Which one provides better handling in the snow and more safety? AWD + All season tires or FWD with winter tires? Below a certain price point there are very few AWD Sedans. Ford Fusion is one of the cars I am interested in. But my wife seems to love the Mazda 3 and 6 and if you say FWD with winter tires is considerably better, our options open up big time (of course AWD with Winter tires would be the best). I just want her to be safe and comfortable with driving in snow. So, can you please help me decide between Ford Fusion AWD with all season tires or Mazda 3/6 with Winter tires for driving in snow???
@AAutoBuyersGuide
@AAutoBuyersGuide 9 жыл бұрын
nikhilnagaraj For the maximum in safety it's "anything" with winter tires. A RWD car with winter tires or a FWD car with winter tires will out handle and stop shorter than a car with all-season tires. In general FWD is more predictable than RWD, but the tires are the big thing.

Great stuff, Alex. I've got a question about this car that I think you'd have a good handle on. Probably late next year I'm looking to buy either the Scat Charger or Scat Challenger. I honestly can't decide. I'd like a manual, which forces me into the Challenger, but something tells me the 392 is just too much engine to be trying to control with a manual, and the 8 speed would be better. You've lived with both. Based on just the transmission, which would you pick? I've got a couple of kids to haul, but both cars are plenty large, both cost about the same, perform about the same. For my use, both are equally practical. What to do? Thoughts?
@RamblingOmarr
@RamblingOmarr 9 жыл бұрын
Go for the Automatic. The auto is FASTER okay, its more efficient, and it's easier to live with ESP if you live in or Near a City where you will do lots of shuffling around with the gears. The Stick is for control freaks who want to do everything. I have nothing against Sticks BUT with this type of car, I want to let the car do the work and just sit back and enjoy kicking an arm back and giving that 6.4L a good Punch at a random stop light for NO reason. Then is when you can really just appreciate the power, and efficiency this thing brings to the table. Plus the Auto is Faster, Its 8speeds vs 7. And that 485hp is on TAP. Go for the automatic. But if you just MUST be a gear head the stick is just as good, just not as practical and convenient.

Omnis Not at All!!!! Quick Lightning Shifts, it's tuned to the Engine VERY well. The Gear ratios are PERFECT. And it's got some of the Best fuel economy running for a performance sedan. Just experiencing the works of that 8speed is enough for me to buy it. Get it just because of that 8speed. Lol it's just that good. I'd prefer this paring over the ones in the AUDI and BMWs.
@kipamore
@kipamore 9 жыл бұрын
omarrianowilson9 Alright fellas, let's try to work this out with me. For me, the reason the LX/LC cars are cool is because they are so old school. I don't just mean in the gimmicky retro styling and hemi badges, I mean that because I'm 45, cars are SUPPOSED to have a V8 in the front and stuff I can identify under the hood. There is very little substantive difference between these cars and the cars of 50 years ago that I like. Unibody, driveshaft, real trunk, etc. So for me the appeal is the continuity from the past. That said, the Challenger gets the nod because it's a 2 door (something VERY few cars are these days) and because it's a manual. Talk about old school. 20 years from now, the desirable cars will be the rarer cars, and they won't be making big inch V8s for much longer, so a stick scat Challenger will be a real keeper. But because the freakin' thing has 485 horses, and I plan to drag race it at some point, the auto really is a better choice. I've owned some fast-ish cars, and plenty of stick cars, but trying to control 485 horses with a stick seems like it's asking a lot. If you watch the wonderful recent Regular Cars Review on the Grand National, he makes a good pitch for the auto because, as Omar says, you just stab it and go. More fun than rowing. At any rate, I can't decide. I frankly prefer the front grille of last year's Charger, but I would want the 8sp over the 5sp. I'm struggling. The Charger has another edge over the Challenger in that people think you are a cop and they get out of your way, and it's got a longer wheelbase so it rides better. I don't give a crap about handling/cornering - not my bag. Thoughts?

Maybe I'm reading or hearing this wrong but the 2015 does not cut a full second from 0-60 because of the 8 speed. Maybe if your comparing the Scat Pack Rt to a regular Rt then sure. But its the engine not the tranny. You might gain 2 tenths over the 2014 using the 5.7l as a comparison.

CHIP OFFTHEOLDBLOCK I'm simply going off our own tests. We tested a 2014 model with the 6.4L V8 and the 5-Speed automatic and a 2015 model with the 6.4L V8 and the 8-speed and the performance difference was eye opening. 1st gear is much lower in the 8HP and the spacing between gears 1 and 3 is ideal for 0-60 runs.

@robertkurt2
@robertkurt2 8 жыл бұрын
It's the added option groups that make the car expensive. For example the sunroof package alone is $1395. Plus another four to five option groups that range from $500-$1400. So all those can add an extra $5000 to the base price of the car.

+cpthemonstergamer Expensive compared to what? Robert is right the option packages increase the price. The base price is just over $32K. But I highly recommend getting the Road & Track package that's featured here, especially if you more performance oriented because you get the better suspension and power pages which add's launch control which is handy for obvious reasons. The base RT with Road & Track package is $34K and there's currently $2K in rebates if you bring your own financing with the lowest APR. Also these cars have a fair amount of margin in them, you should be able to pay under $30K for RT with a few options + rebates and you should be able to get the Road & Track option plus a few other things of the normal MSRP ($34K).

I actually agree here. Why are they so expensive? American cars (esp Dodge) are known to have poor reliability and overall cheap materials. Do they think they can trick the consumer into overpaying for a v8 engine that will cause all kind of headache down the road?

I had a 2012 Charger for almost four years very reliable and the materials were not cheap. Just bought a 2015 Charger and it's even better. So I have to disagree.

When doing comparisons, you need to stop pointing at the car you are standing to, when you are referring to a car that is not pictured. IE at 23min51s. It confuses the crap out of your viewers and you do it on every video. Otherwise great videos

Too bad reliability on those cars is crap. Would love to own one if I knew they'd spend more time on the road than in the shop.

Matt Lady This came up in the preview video. This car has average to above average reliability. The V6 is totally proven (I own one in a Promaster, zero issues). All the Hemis except the Hellcat have been in production for years with no major problems. The 8 speed auto is a ZF unit found in a slew of cars. Where are you getting this opinion from?

Consumer Reports has given the Charger consistently poor reliability ratings. They predicted the 2015 as "Far Below Average" too, unfortunately.

Matt Lady I looked into that. Unless I subscribe to CR, I don't get the full details. But they gave previous Chargers a 3/5 meaning average. I just can't see where this would have some fatal flaw that makes it a lemon. The chassis has basically been in production for over 10 years, the engines I'm interested in are just low tech lumps. Compared to anything German or sporty japanese, I would think the Charger would be durable and reliable.

***** You should also take a look at JD Power. Their initial quality ratings are low for the Charger too. And I didn't say the car was a lemon, just that they generally suffer from reliability issues.

***** there's a lot more involved in a car. just think about the electronics in cars these days. just one substandard part used because the automaker wanted to save 10 cents from one vendor over another can lead to your head banging against the wall. just look at vw.
