Simone Biles seems like such a little sweetie - always smiling and waving and seems to have a great attitude towards team mates and other competitors. She is top of her game and well-deserved. Her floor routine suits her personality and she always looks very polished.

I've only just started watching Simone Biles, she seems all around really great, personality and skill. I wonder with her uneven bars wether she would be capable of doing Shawn Johnson's Dismount double twisting double layout I think. The commentators were saying she seems capable of more so she would be even more amazing if she could do that.

Aly and Gabby came back and made a second Olympic team, garnered more medals (including finally seeing Aly win an all around one), Kyla became an NCAA legend- the first world, Olympic and NCAA champion, Makayla earned her second world title before health issues forced retirement and Jordyn became a collegiate coach, someone who will undoubtedly influence many future athletes in incredible ways. That 2012 team was truly legendary.

Wish Larisa Iordache were in this... She has such a gorgeous floor routine. Mykayla Skinner is such a fantastic tumbler, but I wish she looked a little less uptight. There's something about her facial expressions and the way she throws her shoulders back and wrists forward that makes her look tense, and her dance moves look almost perfunctory- she executes her routines, but she doesn't perform them.

He can't help it. That one vault of hers in the Olympic team final was just so incredible. They are are all great vaults but a stuck Amanar that is a foot and a half higher than the top male gymnast (who starts on a taller vault table to begin with) is just incredible. And Maroney always had better form and a little more height than Simone. Simone always, always crosses her feet. Ergo, Tim must have an obsession with Maroney because she truly had the most incredible (height, distance, form, landing, centered, dynamic) vault of all time. I think it's kinda funny how he always brings her up. But he's right. She is the greatest vaulter of all time.
@arathgomez615
@arathgomez615 6 жыл бұрын
bbhouk1 Maroney doesn't have the extension biles has so actually her form isn't better, and she arches her whole body and you can clearly see that in every video. She also isn't the greatest vaulter of all time, on the women's side maybe on the men's no.

If ARTISTIC gymnastics means to dance ballet-like, then the men's gymnastics shouldn't be called 'artistic', because all they do is tumble, but IT IS.Yet if Simone biles tumbles like the men do, some people hate on her. Why are you full of hate for your fellow man? Artistic gymnastics obviously isn't what you think it is.

Simone is actually very expressive and has a much more refined concept of presentation and style than most Americans competing now. I think people brush her off as "unartistic" because of the horrid music choice and the fact that she is always pigeonholed as a power gymnast. Watch her floor as a junior, it was much more flattering than her current routine.

Tim Daggett made a really good point. In the gymnastics world, 25 years old is considered old and that's why I disagree with that rule that a female gymnast has to be 16 years old in order to compete in the Olympics. It's not fair to a gymnast that's 15 years old because she has to wait until she's 19. Most gymnasts are at their best between the ages of 14 to 17 years old.
@jordanmiller3369
@jordanmiller3369 9 жыл бұрын

@dcdddddd1 9 жыл бұрын
Jordan Miller But what if a gymnast is 15 years old and doesn't turn 16 until the following year. I just think it's ridiculous that they made that rule. Nadia Comaneci was just 14 years old at the 1976 Olympics. Tatiana Gutsu was just 15 years old at the 1992 Olympics. If a gymnast is good enough to compete at the Olympics, then she should be allowed to compete even if she's just 14 or 15 years old.

+missmosshie Well, after all, they are American commentators covering American gymnasts. :) They say turnabout is fair play. :) I have "issues" with the British commentators, especially Christine Stills. She NEVER passes any opportunity to comment somewhat critically and arrogantly that American girls are not "elegant." That's her favorite word. There are times I wanted to grab my monitor and shake the bolts out of it. LOL The Russian girls are her favorites. One of them in particular can flub her beam routine six or seven times, fall off the beam, and land on her face doing her dismount, and Stills will comment how "elegant" her form, her arm movements, and her toes are---even if she would break them when she fell. And when the British girls, who are of the same body type, have the same style and strength, either flub a routine or even fall on their butts, she gently brushes those mistakes off as "little bobbles." LOL She drove me bonkers, although she has improved a bit in the last two years. Someone must have told her she was just a tad prejudiced with her barbs & criticisms. Not to mention that the woman does not have brains enough to pronounce competitors' names properly, no matter how many times she has heard them said correctly. But she probably just believes she can pronounce their fathers' names better than their fathers can.

+Jordan Miller. I still think they should lower the age requirement to 14 years old instead of 16 years old because most gymnasts are at their best between the ages of 14 to 17 years old. Nadia Comaneci was only 14 years old when she competed in the Olympics.
@lilaelizabeth2674
@lilaelizabeth2674 Жыл бұрын
The reason they raised it is because when it was 14 there was a massive amount of injuries and abuse among the young young girls so by raising it to 16 it helps prevent injuries and abuse more than 14 if that makes sense
@saragrant9749
@saragrant9749 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely not!! 16 is young enough in a sport that can be incredibly abusive in nature- given the coaches the sport seems to attract. The girls in particular are not physically developed enough at 14 for it to be safe to consider pushing them that hard that early.

I don't like that they don't mention the fact that Larissa Iordache would have won the AA last year had she not stepped out on floor.
@chrissyjoy08
@chrissyjoy08 9 жыл бұрын
Josh White Actually, while it was close, she wouldn't have won, even staying in bounds, and even without the wobble backward with extra step that wasn't out of bounds. It would've been MUCH, MUCH closer, but the step out was 0.1 and probably 0.1 for the step back before that, and maybe 0.1 for the wobble that accompanied the first step back. Raise her score by 0.3, would've then made it 60.065, while Simone still had 60.231. It would've been a much tighter finish, but Simone still would've gotten it.

Josh White Larissa Iordache ain’t shit compared to a gymnastics queen like Simone. Also stop with your “Larissa would have won had she not stepped out” blah blah bullshit. She didn’t and that’s that. That’s like me saying if Simone would of had a better balance beam routine she would have won with a larger margin of victory, but she didn’t so stop with the “if’s.”

Ok... I have to ask: Is the American Cup really that big of a deal? Aside from the fact that the meet includes some pretty well-known gymnasts, does it deserve the reverence given to it by the commentators? In the years I've been watching the American Cup, the commentators drone on about how huge the competition is, how prestigious it is to win it, and how every gymnast wants to win or compete in one. I feel like I missed something along the way...

+thetigerbeat007 It's big for the American gymnasts because it's really the only major international event on American soil but it's not so big for the other countries. That's why most of the major gymnasts don't show up
@MultiChantal22

It's no different than other FIG World Cup (which is not that important). But Americans like to emphasize it a lot because it is the only World Cup that US gymnasts can get many medals.

@tackssherbo7104
@tackssherbo7104 8 жыл бұрын
+devanf17 I guess we have the same issue about that. After all the events these commentators covered over the years, you would think they would take the time to learn how to pronounce competitors' names properly. I think it's RUDE for them not to give proper respect to the athletes by pronouncing their names correctly. You think the Japanese names are bad? Just listen to them during the Olympics. They butcher Russian and east European names horribly, and there is NO excuse for it because almost all of the athletes compete in many events over the years. Lazy and stupid, that's all.

My only fear for Simone - I believe she is unbeatable if she hits, is that the judges score her like they did Shawn Johnson in 2008. The Euros are hating the athleticism of the USA gymnasts. The sport has changed. The change has been dictated via the code of points / FIG. Judges better not pull that crap again.

The Russian women, as far as I can remember, haven't been to an American Cup in about four years. They claim that it's because it's so early in the season but I think it's because they are still upset that Jordyn Wieber won in 2009 when she wasn't technically supposed to be competing in it because she wasn't eligible.

Mikkayla (Spelling?) lost a chunk of weight since last years American cup or whatever it's called! I just watched it on youtube and was thinking to myself she was too chunky...not muscly like Simone but chunky! I noticed Mikkayla's weight was affecting her gymnastics and making it hard for her to stick not only landings but even her mounts and tumbling and her combinations! She's lost a big chunk of weight and its improved her skills and she's not so out of breath now!

Would you appreciate being called “chunky?” What a soulless statement. She got better because her training brought it about- not because of her damn weight!
