Though a symptom, the key lock solenoid was not the root cause for this key stuck in ignition problem. It was actually a sticky shift-release button on the gear shifter. It was not reliably engaging the switch that tells the key lock solenoid to disengage to let you finish turning the key to the off-position and pull it out of the ignition. There is a fuse you can pull that protects that circuit... nothing else on the circuit. Pulling the fuse will disable that solenoid.

What is the name of the part that the wire/clip is connected to? If you just didn't want to just disconnect this and you wanted to actually fix the problem, what part/s need to be replaced?

My wife's 2015 Camaro has 36k on the odometer and has a different ignition issue; the key will turn to allowing the engine to turn off but the ignition will stick in that position and will not turn any farther to the off position so the can can be removed. We were stuck in another state with the key stuck in the on position but engine turned off so I called the dealership and an advisor suggested I slam the brake pedal which worked allowing the key to access the off position then be removed. That tricked only worked twice then we got stuck again. Will this tip work for that issue? Also I've heard some people spray WD-40 on the shifter button helps but will spraying some DeOxit on the shifter button help the issue?

Sorry but you're barking up the wrong tree. The problem isn't in the steering column or in the shifter know. Instead, it's the small switch at the base of the shifter (as described in this video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a5-bmc2ZvaqqYIU.html) If you disconnect the solenoid in the steering column or complete the circuit in the wiring then you can pull ht key out - even while driving with the steering wheel locked - very dangerous. Instead, you'll need to swap out the switch (which requires some soldering) or clean the switch as described in the video above. I soldered in a new switch (Part #Touch Micro Switch D2HW-BL251H) that I bought on ebay for $8.59. I dd this yesterday and Voila! it fixed the problem! I can pull the key out - but only when the car is in 'park'. I hope this helps someone.
