THANK YOU for this tip - I thought I would add my experience to hopefully help others also. I tried your temporary trick when my 2016 duramax truck was limiting me to 55 mph. It worked and I could run in 3rd gear up to 65 for a test although the rpms were getting up there, so at least I knew it would work. I put the sensor back on and continued my trip home at 55 mph. Eventually it gave me the message that the max speed would soon be 4 mph, and it did exactly that. I stopped, shut the truck off and pulled the wire that you recommended. I then started the engine and dropped it into drive and the truck rolled backwards. I had no gears at all. I restarted the truck and tried many things, same result. The solution ended up being: leave sensor wire attached, drive at 4 mph in "D", stop, leave truck in gear, and idling, apply emergency brake, get out and pull sensor wire while truck is still in gear and still idling, then release E-brake and continue as this video states, shifting to N then to D to get from 1st gear to 3rd gear, eventually driving all the way home, 120 miles, in 3rd gear, at about 2200 rpm and 55 mph. thanks for the tip i removed the speed sensor and put it back on the engine light came on good thing i always carry a scanner i erased the codes, and the emission system disappeared. i am travelling Houston, tx to ringgold, la

Thanks for this! But once you pulled the speed sensor, how did you get the truck back into normal running speeds? I pulled the sensor due to my DEF heater fouling out, and now it’s stuck in 3rd gear. Thanks

How do you initiate the “ regeneration “?

Could you put it in manual and change the gears that way?

If you can put your truck in regen I have found that works as well l. So if you have a odb2 scanner that can do that. Remember disclaimer you could ruin your dpf system if there is a sensor reading true values and is not truely shot. A dpf overhaul is 5-8000 in parts according to google.

Restart the truck. After you do the repair you have to run the regen on DEF and then clear all the codes and it will definitely reset everything

I had same issue on my 2012 GMC 3500 Denali. There is a service bulletin that extends the warranty, in my case to an eight year old truck with 78,000 on the clock. Whole new module heaters and all, 5 gallons of DEF.and labor. NO charge!

How did you get the truck fixed ??

Replace The heater in the DEF tank and ran the regeneration.

Thanks man! How did you ever get the alert cleared? Took mine to dealer for diagnostic and they said I needed to change the DEF Heater. Changed it out and still having the same limited MPH problem. Tia

If you do your maintenance when you’re supposed to do your maintenance, you will never going to D rate, by doing this, you run the risk of more damage to your vehicle.

just do a dpf regen it ll clear out the emmissions shit and boom no need to unplug anything

This is ridiculous. My truck is stuck. Still in my garage. After months. Two dealership trips. 7k. And I am still stuck. I will never buy a Chevy again!!!!!!!

Why in the hell even let it get that low in the first place? I add more at 20%. Just like my wife in her car letting it get to E - "E" does not stand for enough!!!
