Alright, im a 300 fan, but if you want to compare numbers, why didnt you use a rwd 300 v6? You would save in weight, price, and at the end of the day, they would have been at least equal. Not to mention, but you seemed to have a slowish rolling start when doing the 300's 0-60, but no such thing when dragging. Actually, looked like the Avalon actually got moving faster than you. You should have switched cars and done the test again if anything. Bah, do the test again with the V8 in the 300.

+Scott Thede But still, even if the Avalon had a 1/2 second jump on the 300, the Avalon's wheel spin should allow the 300's AWD to catch up to the Avalon. But then again, an extra 500 lbs. really makes the difference. It would be interesting to see a drag race in the Chrysler 300 Hemi V8, but having an extra 100 horsepower doesn't seem fair. But if they got a Toyota Avalon TRD Edition (320hp supercharged V6), then it would be equal.

I think it would had been a little more even mashup if the 300 didnt have AWD. It would have made the 300 cheaper than the two and most likely the faster. The AWD makes it slower and heavier, as well as more expensive.

BRIAN BUTZ The parts where you talk a complete load of horseshit so that would be everything you typed. Wheelspin and full rph power, blah blah - you come across as a dumb kid who played too much need for speed. Reality check - spinning tyres doesn't go faster. Also in every car I've ever been in or seen tested, pressing the go faster buttons either does nothing or makes it go faster. Somehow you "know" it would be 1.5s faster if only they had thought to switch to the less sporty mode. What a douche.
@RizwanJaved26
@RizwanJaved26 9 жыл бұрын
BRIAN BUTZ Yes you are full of shit In a shitty car like Chrysler 300 pressing one button isn't going to fucking make it 1.5 seconds faster. All sport mode does it sharper throttle and steering response and in some cars hold the gear just a tiny bit longer. It can never make more than .2 - .5 second difference. Maybe in a Ferrari sport button would make a big difference. But not in a over weight Chrysler junk.

I would have to differ with you on that assessment. The Toyota is a better aesthetically designed car than the Chrysler in this case. The Avalon is well designed and built work of art in comparison to the Chrysler which is soulless and bland and has the looks of a stick of margarine.
@petelebu
@petelebu 8 жыл бұрын
BeverageGuzzler oh come on man, with a better interiour and a better rear you could put a mercedez or rolls royce badge in it and everybody would call it "the car of the year" the front of the chrysler looks FANTASTIC and the avalon looks like your typical asian power ranger asian crap.
@BeverageGuzzler
@BeverageGuzzler 8 жыл бұрын
petelebu But we're not reviewing a Mercedes Benz and a Rolls Royce here. The cars that we're specifically talking about are the Toyota Avalon and the Chrysler 300, so how is it that you've brought up these other brands of cars in the equation here ? and if you really think that a stick of margarine on wheels is the definition of fine design aesthetics or as you've put it as "FANTASTIC" then I really have to question your taste and mental state here. It appears to me that you have an all out bias toward the Toyota brand given the particular vernacular that you've expressed in reference to the brand. Your mind is already made up here, but it seems that it's not based on critical assessment but rather of the old nationalistic "Buy American" jargon which is not rational and not of intelligent constructive critical thought in any sense.

@RizwanJaved26
@RizwanJaved26 9 жыл бұрын
Nathaniel Rudolph Really? The point of 8 speed is so the car can be more fuel efficient, and even with just a 6 speed the Avalon is still more fuel efficient. As for more power, that's useless in this case because Avalon is still faster. All you're getting in the 300 that you don't get in Avalon is AWD. Have you seen the crash test videos of 300/Charger? Their build quality is so shitty that the entire navigation unit pops right out because the interior is nothing but plastic. Avalon is loaded with leather and soft touch materials.

Rizwan Javed the Chrysler 300 is still a better car. look at the specs. there are no avalons on the road. Nathaniel Rudolph Yes 300 is everywhere and that's because it is very cheap and affordable because just about everyone in america has someone in family or friends working for Chrysler. Go to any high school and have the kids have a 300 or Charger. If you have a 300/Charger no one will give a fuck because they are so common and even McDonald workers have it. The simple way to know what the better overall car is to look at the resale value. I swear my mom and brother in law used to work for Chrysler and they told me to never get any Chrysler product no matter how good of a deal it may sound like, because they use the cheapest materials possible.

AWD looses 30HP from that 300HP and makes it much slower since the it has to power both the front and rear axles. Plus the 300HP is at the crank and at the wheels the real HP is 220HP. It the 0-60mph time mattered so much to people, then why is it that car companies tend to have greater volume in sales contributed by the lower tiered vehicles? It certainly does not entirely rely on the cheaper price these types of vehicles sell at because within each category or niche in the car market, there is ALWAYS an alternative that meets at least one or more of your needs. Acceleration tends to be at the bottom of the list with the general population.

Roman, Andre, thanks for another review but I cant help but notice that the Chrysler had awd. Traditionally that would hinder straight line acceleration right? Why not try one without the awd? I bet it would be quicker. I understand you are trying to only compare V6 to V6 but i think it would be good to mention that there is a V8 option. I own the Hemi in the 2015 and I think you guys should compare that engine model with other German/Asian manufacturers cars. I think it would be a lot closer then people would tend to think.

Everybody ragging on the chrysler needs to realize it's basically a late 90's early 2000's Mercedes... The 3.6l is an award winning engine that's in well over a million cars and the 8 speed transmissions are German zf transmissions with no major issues. You can buy a well equipped 300 Touring in 2018 for $23k with 20 inch wheels and the sport appearance package, another $1000 buys an extended warranty. So for $24k you get a 300hp Mercedes with a 100k mile powertrain warranty....

I'm a long time Toyota owner and put 100k miles on per year. Both are good cars, the Avalon is ugly, the 300 is an excellent hwy car and of course the platform of the 300 is a last Gen MB E class and it shows rolling down the interstate. I love my '15 300s AWD and would never go back to Toyota, the US built models are being cheapened up. The plastics are hard, cheap looking and mark easily. Sloppy handling, etc. I could go on. I trade every 2 years, I hope Fiat is smart and leaves this MB platform alone for awhile, it's what makes it different than the rest. AWD was key for me up in the Midwest snow-belt, otherwise, yes RWD is faster, lighter, brakes better and better MPG. These testers are very amateur.

Well, Roman, that was a good review, but comparing the braking performance of both cars you said that the 300S is 500 pounds heavier than the Avalon. Nevertheless, your tests show that the 300S did 60-0 in 119.6 feet, while the Avalon did 60-0 in 123 feet. IMHO, the 300S have better brakes, right? Next time, try to compare same configurations, both cars with one powered axle, RWD vs. FWD, not AWD vs FWD. In that way we'll see if the results are more accurate, by comparing apples to apples. The weight and drag of AWD in the 300S doesn't help at all to the 0-60 performance.

WuWei Xu My comment is specific to the 300 specifically. This vehicle performs much better in the RWD configuration and is vastly more popular. I could care less how a "Bugatti, Huracan etc." performs since this comparison was between a 300s and Avalon. If you really want to get specific, the OP states he's not using the race track because you would never drive these on a race track. If you are holding to this logic then why the heck is he drag racing a luxury sedan? Compare the interior, the roominess, the ride, how they handle turns, how they handle bumps and uneven road conditions, etc. So yeah, this was stupid from the start.

goatmonkey2112 It's not "pretty nice" at all. It's a pile of crap with a big, lazy engine in it. I love how they get away with saying it's got leather interior - where? There's more real leather in a cactus than that pretend rubbish in the 300. It feels cheap and nasty to be in. It's squeaky, rattles and generally feels like it's made from bargain basement fiat cast offs. It's cheap because it's thrown together junk. If a V8 gets you off enough to look past the terrible driving experience (presuming it lasts long enough for you to notice) then great - go buy one. Just remember once you grow up and buy something with some quality you will never look at cheap junk like that in the same way. I also never said American cars were still junk. Some are brilliant. The 300 isn't.
@goatmonkey2112
@goatmonkey2112 9 жыл бұрын
hung huge The 300 I drove was a SRT8 that was a couple of years old. There were no squeaks or rattles. That is in your imagination. No reviewer has said that either. My dad's 10 year old Town & Country doesn't have rattles either. Your information is coming from the 90s or earlier. Chryslers are a whole lot better than they used to be. I wouldn't say they are on par with Toyota quality, but have you ever actually driven an Avalon? It's pretty much like driving a Buick. This is not an exciting car we are talking about here. The Avalon is a big highway cruiser. It's a boring car for retired people. It's a good car, but I wouldn't want to own one. When I think about that option, a Chrysler 300 SRT8 that is a couple of years old vs. a new Avalon. There is no comparison, the 6.4L V-8 is a monster. I was just talking about the 5.7 before, but if I was buying one of these, a used SRT8 would be the only choice. If you want a V-8 and RWD in a Toyota, you're looking at a $90k Lexus LS460. Or to get to the same price point maybe a 2008 Lexus would be about the same price. That's not a bad option actually if you can find one with low miles. This is all assuming that you are in the market for a big cushy sedan. The Lexus has decent power, and it's super comfortable. You could probably even make a point that the 2008 Lexus would last as long as a newer 300. That's probably true. I would have way more fun driving a 300 SRT8 though.

Mr21scott I just did a quick search on Autotrader. 2005+ 300s and Avalons with over 200k miles. There are plenty of high mileage 300s out there. That seems like a reasonable lifespan for one. I wouldn't drive one that long though. I do agree that you are move likely to see a Toyota with over 500k miles. The nice thing about the 300 though is that parts are cheap and it's a simple design that any mechanic can fix. I think a 300 should make it to 200k miles with only minor issues. The Toyota will probably have fewer problems, but the difference isn't what it used to be. When you look into the JD Power quality and reliability surveys now, the actual problems people have with their cars from any brand in the first 2 or 3 years is usually not even mechanical. Some electronic device breaks or their new phone won't pair with the bluetooth. Back in the 90s and earlier, the problems on the JD Power report were things like the engine blew up, the transmission blew up. That stuff happens, but it isn't common anymore.

Charles Requa Even if 300 was RWD it would still lose because Avalon is made of aluminum so it's still going to be much lighter. Plus the 8 speed in the 300 is shitty as fuck. 8 speed serves two purposes, MPG and acceleration. With 8 gears cars can spread the gear ratios better keep RPM's very low in normal driving. RWD 300 gets 31 MPG highway so Chrysler definitely achieved the MPG part. As for acceleration, with 8 speed the gears can be spread so that when the car shifts into 2nd 3rd etc., the RPM's don't go any lower than 5,000. In a lot car cars with just a 6 speed or 5 speed the RPM's drop by too much and that really kills the performance because at 4000 RPM most cars are out of their power band. In this Chrysler, even with 8 speed, RPM's drop by way too much so the 8 speed is useless in terms of acceleration. I have a Lexus LS460 and it was the worlds first car to have 8 speed. I have 0-60 video on my channel. When it shifts into second RPM's stay at 5000 and it pulls hard all the way.
