Diagnosis, repair and confirmation of 2015 Dodge Ram 1500 with the ABS light on.
The code was:
C0034:1D - right front speed sensor circuit current out of range
Diagnosis:
If you have a code for a single wheel speed sensor then it's almost always just a faulty sensor. Especially when it's a hub bearing style like this. Everything, sensor, tone wheel, bearing, is in the new part. All I do on these is grab my scantool, graph the speed sensors and drive around the parking lot looking for glitches/dropouts. They're more likely to fail at low speeds. If I see glitches on the wheel that flagged the code then I call for a new hub bearing assembly.
There are possibilities of the vehicle harness being damaged but 99.99% of the time that's right at the connector. If it's a wiring problem and the wheel bearing is good then just the wiring repair gets performed. Otherwise the new part is installed then verify if it's fixed.
Repair:
This was a pretty straight forward replacement. Service information says to disconnect the upper balljoint. This is the newer style (2012-2020) with a more tapered outer CV joint so I could get the bolts out with leaving everything attached. The older Ram's don't have enough room. I've always separated the upper balljoint on the pre-2012 Rams. Plus I cover other tips and tricks to make the job easier.
Verify repair:
Clear codes, drive around parking lot with scantool, ensure no glitches. All good!
