The Pathfinder is one of the crossovers I recommend most to folks with a family. It's big, it's comfy and has more legroom than most.

i just did little experiment in the weekend, to find out how capable this 4 x 4 system of this newer pathfinder is, I found out that this newer uni body pathfinder has FRONT LSD and rear lockers. there is a procedure to engage the rear lockers in this newer pathfinder, move shifter to low range, turn 4wd control knob to LOCK MODE, turn traction control off, this will engage the reardiff locker lock as soon as a wheel win is detected in the vehicle , I heard a clicking sounds as the power started to go towards the wheel with traction, the lock will disengage after 40kmph, this is a very capable 4 x 4 system if you know how to use it, this vehicle say do serious off roading with proper offraoding tires, as long as you don't exceed speeds of 40kmph. the rear diff will not lock in AUTO mode.

I have this car for 7 months now. My only (minor) complain is that the power steering pump is noisy. I still don't like CVT, but maybe that's because I also own a 2014 Mazda3 that has a nice 6-speed automatic.

How do you use the 4x4 options? I mean say you're driving on 2wd, but you need to change it to 4x4, do you just switch it to auto or lock? Do you have to stop? Slow down? Put it on neutral? Owners manual doesn't explain this.

Payload figures would greatly improve assessing the actual tow capacity. This is because the tongue weight counts against the payload, and with many vehicles you will quickly exceed payload when having passengers and towing.

Alex - great video as always. I appreciate you taking a look at ground clearance and it confirmed my suspicion on where the measurement was taken and it sounds like what you would drag first is the flexible air-dam (would rather that than the exhaust or differential). One thing I did note: in your review you reference the differential "lock" (50/50 split) giving it more ability than the Highlander. Doesn't the highlander also have a lock feature? Do they operate differently?

We have had the vehicle for 3 months now, driven 3000+ miles with zero issues so far. Everything works fine. Before I made this purchase, one friend at Nissan HQ told me that the issues with the CVT was with a certain batch of transmissions made. Once the storm with concerns hit Nissan, they promptly took action including detailed investigation, remedial measures and punitive action starting from the top. The incident stung so much that they delayed the production of the new Murano by a couple of months to not face such an issue. They also made certain changes to the CVT itself and also made changes to the frame to pass the small overlap test conducted by IIHS. When it did get the top rating in the IIHS test, I bought this one out. Still sorely missed are DRLs, Front crash warning and prevention, more modern center console and HID headlights. Will post updates on reliability as the months go by.

Hi Alex, I love your videos and eagerly await for each update. I think you have one of most comprehensive review in entire universe of online videos. I would like also point to you about a couple of suggestions. Please include the safety ratings, resale value and reliability numbers in your reviews. These are very critical details which determine the satisfaction during car ownership and so plays an important role in car buying experience. Obviously these can be found else where in the website like edmunds etc, You may choose to add this detail in comparison section. Folks like me trying to buy for a family value the safety features over comfort, leather and plastic material. I personally have seen friends buy a Hyundai Santa Fe over competitors primarily due to cost, warranty and safety. So please give this request to add safety, reliability, cost to own and resale value a strong consideration. Thanks, Saravana.

Jyothi Turpu Thanks for the feedback! The tricky part about reliability and safety is that often reliability information is not available since it takes 2-3 years for reliability data to be compiled on the vehicle. Of the last 7 vehicles I've reviewed this is really the only one where reliability data would be available. Often safety data isn't available until after my review is filmed as well. That's the tricky part with new car reviews, so often they are filmed just after release and that data doesn't exist yet.

Hopefully someone gives some input, we are a family of three with one child in a rear facing convertible seat. We plan to have another kid in the next couple years who will also rear face for as long as possible. We do a LOT of traveling, long trips between states and such. We also have three big dogs. Should we go for a 2016 Kia Sorento with the v6 engine or a 2015 Pathfinder? I like them both, I'm going to test drive this weekend.(Forgot to add we like to do a lot of outdoorsy things, not really what I would consider off roading but driving on fairly steep and washboarded dirt roads.)

Hi Alex, I've watched quite a few of your videos and would really like your opinion for my purchase - what's the best car for our situation? We have two back-facing car seats and they will remain back-facing for another 6 months or so, therefore I prefer an SUV or a van that allows me to install 2 car seats (back facing) in the 2nd row, using the middle seat, to allow the other side seat slide forward and give easy access to the 3rd row. I think this configuration provides the easiest for access to 3rd row, right? (Compare to walking through the 2nd row middle seat area to the 3rd row, or slide a side seat a little bit forward giving tight access to 3rd row due to back facing car seat) I saw this Pathfinder video and thought the Pathfinder may provide the solution, although you didn't mention whether installing a back-facing car seat in the 2nd row middle seat will work. (I saw your other car seat video too) Could you comment on that? From my understanding, Honda Odyssey allows my configuration too, so we are deciding between a van and a crossover. I think Sienna may allow my configuration too, not sure. We don't mind the look of a van, although an SUV or crossover is cooler. Acceleration is not important. Automatic AWD is important. Cargo space after 3rd row is important as we are likely to use the 3rd seats. Price wise, Sienna, Odyssey category would be OK. What do you think is the best? Any other SUV or crossover you recommend? I understand that for vans, it's probably just Odyssey, Sienna, Sedona... Thanks a lot! Leo
@AAutoBuyersGuide
@AAutoBuyersGuide 8 жыл бұрын
+Leo Yuan In general a rear facing child seat is easier and a wider range of crossovers can do that. The reason is that in the rear facing position the seat can articulate forward allowing most crossovers to slide the seat to teh front without removing it. The Pathfinder is a good option as is the new 2016 Pilot.On the van front I'd put the Odyssey and Sedona first, the current Chrysler vans next and the Toyota last. The new Chrysler minivans should be announced on Monday and will likely be available in a few months.

Hi alex, thanks for your video about this 2015 Nissan Pathfinder, I need your help regarding to what could be a better option for me on a SUV, to have a better idea about my situation here's the whole picture: I am living in Canada where winter sometimes has no mercy and drive can become in an stress, so an AWD vehicle is necessary ( well at least for me others I don't care), then next my family has 5 + 1 members include my wife and myself and grandma ( my mother in law) just came 2 months ago and I think she will stay with us for a very long time, my kids 2 of them are teenagers & the little one is 12 years old, but is growing very fast. I currently have a Mitsubishi Outlander 2015 my only complaint is the room in winter is perfect and coming with 10 years of guarantee, I don't like grand caravan due to bad experience on dodge I wanna keep myself away from them, please reply my comment and tell me the options similar at this vehicle or maybe this path finder is the best for me?

Had my 2013 Pathfinder SL AWD for almost 3 years and over 100K (km) and not one issue with the tranny except requiring a software update (and it drives like a Car). It is a beast off the line beating a lot of "sportier" cars and doesn't burn a drop of oil. I am done with Toyota, and Kia and will only consider Honda and Nissan from now on.

jowowetan To help your perspective on the Honda V6 (250 HP)...I bought a brand new 2012 Honda Ridgeline and haven't had one engine related problem. The ride, has always been smooth. The CVT has been a welcomed change from the traditional shifting of normal transmissions. Ultimately, I am only one buyer, and results change based on the buyer and the way they treat, drive, and adhere to driver related upkeep of the vehicle. Honestly, this is not a family vehicle for the back bench seat is more suited for flexibility (lifting-for additional load). I wouldn't feel comfortable in the back seat on extended trips. It is very recreational & functional though.
