2015 Nissan Xterra - Mode Blend Door Actuator Replacement

Replacement of the Mode door actuator in my 2015 Nissan Xterra. Some people call it a blend door. This is the mode door, it's on the left hand side of the dash, drivers side. Easily accessible just above and to the right of the gas pedal. Remove the wiring harness and three screws and out it comes. Pop the new one in and good to go.
Likely the same replacement procedure for all second gen Xterra's 2005-2015.. Maybe even first gen. Double the part number for other years.
My old actuator still functioned after removing which I found odd but led me to suspect the mode door itself had just jammed or got hung up on itself. Perhaps the actuator was on its way out so I opted to replace it anyways since I already had the old part out and the new part on hand
Part number:
- 27443-ZP00A or Dorman equivalent 604-627
Tool required:
- 5.5 mm or 7/32" wrench

So, appreciate the video, but there's actually a HUGE shortcut for this. If you look at 1:04 on the left side of the video there is that black box which gets in the way of you using a socket to do the job quickly. That box can simply be slid off of its bracket by pushing it towards the center of the vehicle and then it will drop down and hang out of the way. That way you can get a socket on the 3 screws with no issue at all. Turned this into a 7 minute job! Thanks!

@@chrisdebarge7138 maybe I just got lucky or maybe the prior owner had broken off a tab on my Xterra, but it moved really easily for me. Sorry man

@@chrisdebarge7138push the black box in the way towards the blend door actuator. From the top of the black box and the bottom. It’ll slide right out, work it out. no tabs or anything to push in.

This video saved me from ripping my whole dash apart thanks truck was stuck blowing out of defrost vents I just un plugged and plugged back in and the modes started working again definitely gonna change it out soon though just in case

Same problem. Thought it was a bad actuator and hated the thought of driving 2 hours to the dealer. Based on your experience I twiddled the white "drive wheel" and it popped back into place ! Good to go ! Great video. Thanks

Thanks for sharing this video… I’m hearing grinding noises when I hit my vent switches. I watched a different video for the same car and it looked like a horrendous job. They had to remove the heater box, dash, etc.

@Travis Phillips My 2014 Xterra gets stuck on front vent position. First happened last year. I was manually able to turn the white gear wheel and it has worked in all modes for a year. Just started happening again last week. I manually got the gear to turn again but it only lasts a day now. The odd thing is it always sticks in front vent mode. I had it on floor and defrost mode yesterday after I got it working and never changed it. Came out of a store today and it was stuck in front vent mode again. Hoping it's just the actuator and not the gearing getting jammed up. Just odd it goes to front vent mode when it sticks without me changing modes.

hey, quick question... curious if you would happen to know if this is the same location in a 15' Pathfinder. same deal...need to check the MODE door. pretty sure it's seized or failed. thanks.

This controls the direction of air flow, ie window defrost, cabin front, feet

I found the problem with my Xterra it the door under the dash the actuator that closes the hot and cold the actuator is 49.00 Nissan quoted me a Labor charge of 650.00 at one dealership and at another 1100.00 the dash has to come out

@@wellnessotr so true ,but in this case i had no choice and when i went back to the dealership the labor charges went up ten more dollars,sucks
