yes, cause the "best americans" here are not the world best swimmer he usually races again in summer big event (OG, World championship)

phelps had lost some endurance with age, he got better first 50m at that stage of career than before

the race is over at 50. Notice how fired up he was, after all he went through, he pull up with #1 time in the world that year. The greatest of all time.

Exactly, this 100M Butterfly performance in my opinion, is one of Phelps most impressive accomplishments in his entire career. The only reason that this performance kinda gets lost and forgotten about, is because he was suspended from team USA for his DUI and wasn't allowed to compete at the World Championships. It's a shame that this performance (50.45) doesn't really get mentioned much, all because it wasn't on the World stage. This is actually one of my favorite Phelps moments right here in this video.
