Hey folks, thanks so much for checking out this video and I hope you enjoyed it even half as much as I did eating/filming it. First off, the Pate' translated as "Pork Brain" on both pack's ingredients list on the back of the packs - my only regret was not showing that through my translator. My apologies for not being as thorough as I should have been. Second, there were 3 packs of "Cereal" and I found out after the shoot all 3 packs were different - one has dried meat, another is simply a porridge, and the other was the one we saw - the rice & fruit muesli. I will be doing a short follow-up video of the other 2 packs and will be testing the stove out with the water I will be heating for the two dried cereal mixes. Again, my apologies for not catching this in the video - and next time I will be more attentive to this sorta thing with packs that look almost 100% identical. Third, I ate this over the course of the day, and it was very filling/satisfying - and as with all my reviews where the food is still fresh/edible, I finish the meal after the shoot. Or I at least make a solid effort! Thanks so much for checking this one out - now sit back, relax, and enjoy! -ST Update I just had a very cool Russian fellow translate the pack for me - I stand corrected on "Pork Brains" it was actually: Beef, beef brains, pork fat, onion, starch, salt, water, black pepper, allspice, nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, Sodium nitrate Translator programs just aren't exactly perfected.. yet! -Thanks for reading!

Steve finally visits Pripyat. Enters an abandoned grocery store. Sees an unopened can of food. This is still intact. Opens the can begins eating. “You know even though this can was to expire back in circa 1989 and was exposed to radiation it still hasn’t lost its flavor. I’m tasting small notes of cesium 125.”

The packaging on the MRE looks like it came from that era. So that’s why I came up with the Pripyat reference. Steve have you ever come across any Soviet 1980s MREs?

That pink drink was a fiber supplement lemonade, russian metamucil basically. Compensates for the complete lack of vegetable matter in this MRE. That and the apricot bar keeps your poop good. (Potatos dont really count as vegetables, its more like bread that you grow in the ground)

The green headed matches are supposed to be waterproof and windproof. The straight waterproof matches will be blue and the regular matches will be red. There's also a different color for the strike anywhere matches. All of the colors vary on different countries though so it could be different from my experience.

Something about Steve is very reminiscent of Snake in MGS3, constantly asking how stuff tastes. All of his reviews are almost identical in tone to the way Snake reviews the Colt M1911 he recieves from Eva. "The slide's been polished to a mirror sheen..." is equivalent to "Mmm the cracker has a beautiful creamy undertone, reminiscent of shortbread, really complements the oliy pungence of the cheese spread, similar to some Lithuanian ration cheese but a little more creamy"

That pearl barley porridge(you did not liked) actually was one of the main food in Soviet Army. Everybody hate it)) And we gave it a lot of slang names like "shrapnel". But if it well cooked, it has nice taste and smooth texture, it is very cheap and healthy. Some quotes: "Barley played an important role in ancient Greek culture as a staple bread-making grain as well as an important food for athletes, who attributed much of their strength to their barley-containing training diets. Roman athletes continued this tradition of honoring barley for the strength that it gave them. Gladiators were known as hordearii, which means "eaters of barley." I'm not sure if this kind of discourse is implied in modern army diet in Russia, but young privates still eat it a lot.

MRE's remind me of when my dad lost his house and he said "Were going camping". We camped in San Bernandino mountains for about 6 months stocked up on canned food. Just as we were running out of food, some prisoner firefighters who, if i remember correctly, were also camping, gave us a massive bag of snacks and some MREs. After scraping by on spam and cornbeef hash, it tasted better than anything I'd ever had in my life. The blueberry cobbler MRE was like fine dining.

@@danromodawent back to LA area and lived in a homeless shelter on skid row for about a year and a half with my mom(available women's and men's shelters were seperate and far away). Got horrible foot fungus from bas hygiene, wearing the same shoes for over a year, and walking all day every day(mom loved to walk). Luckily there was a drive one day we stumbled across, where they took care of homeless peoples feet. Probably would've ended up with gangrene if it wasn't for that. After the homeless shelter the courts did a reassesment of how fit she was as a parent. I hadn't been in school for almost a year so I was put in fostercare and lived at a number of different homes, eventually I was lucky enough to end up in a fosterhome in a nice community with million dollar homes(SoCal, so not a mansion or anything, just a really nice house). I then lived happily ever after. OK there is more to the story but I could be here typing all day lol

I very muchso doubt that, actually. Water can dissolve close to twice its mass in sugar at room temperature, so even if he was only using a half cup of water, he could dissolve up to around a cup of sugar into it. Sugar just dissolves slower in cool water than in hot, so if he wanted it to dissolve completely he'd have to leave it sitting around for awhile or stir it a ton.

Would have made sense if the MRE was 25 years old or more. Since then however, if they want to fight capitalist pigs they'd have to start with the Kremlin itself. Russia's pretty much laissez-faire capitalist these days, business rules all and the creme de la creme entrepreneurs are king, it's capitalist to an extent that makes most of Europe (and the EU as a whole) look communist in comparison.

Having lived on C-Rations off and on for a year in Nam, I can tell you, the most needed item to keep them edible is Tabasco Sauce. These small bottles of wonder pepper will cover the worst ration flavor and make it something, while not enjoyable, but passable for needed energy, and satisfies the hunger developed after humping a PRC-77 through the jungle. I always carried one bottle somewhere on my person for just that reason, you never know which meal you will get when the case is opened and the meals distributed.

Steve is probably one of the most perfect human beings out there, you could probably put him in an elevator that's gotten stuck with 5 other people and he'll be the reason they stay calm until they get out.

Dude, your videos have a therapeutic value. I usually get out side at least every 30 minutes to have a smoke, but I've been watching you eating MRE's for the past 1 1/2 hours, like wtf. Nice.

@24:52 the beef porridge was made greasy like that for necessity and not for taste. The high fat content allows the body to maintain a warmer body temperature because the actual process of the bodies ability to process the fat creates the excess heat that normal dangerous cold climates become tolerable.
