I'm a huge fan of tiny cars....keep em coming !

I owned two..2010 and a 2012 and I love them both!! I also did most of the maintenance myself and had very few issues.. The only thing that really stunk was living up here in the North (Buffalo, NY) and the amount of time it took for the car to throw out some heat. If they still made them I would probably own a 3rd. Smart for two just the real one ever.

Sam had the best version--the base model. I bought a brand new 2015 Smart and made sure it was the base model. The main reason is they didn't have power steering. I learned that because the power steering tightened-up around 50 MPH that driving the P/S model on the expressway was an annoyance because it was too stiff and required too much muscle, and this was magnified on windy days. The non-P/S drives much easier, no fighting the wheel. The other reason for the base model is that manual shifting can be done right at the shifter, whereas the other trims have paddles. I felt the fastest and easiest shifting is done right at the stick itself. Manual mode- push forward--lower gears, pull back--higher gears. My plan was to keep the Smart for a year just to try it, and that's what I did. It was a good car and never broke once during my time with it.

Haha. Love it. Amazed at the brakes and bulbs. My 2018 JK Wrangler Rubicon is still on the factory front pads and rotors and never changed a bulb. New clutch, new plugs, new belt and tensioner plus idler pulleys. Factory battery. 87,000 miles. Neat video.

Your experience is basically what I predicted. Surprisingly thirsty on gas. Surprisingly expensive to repair. Generally, not the thrifty car people think it is. They look fun to drive, though. I considered the Smart ForTwo, but opted for a new 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage instead. The worst MPG recorded was 30mpg in stop-and-go traffic with the AC on. Best MPG was 50, hypermiling it on hilly country backroads cruising at 55mph. I did consider the Smart ForTwo at the time, but I'm glad I went with the Mirage instead. Saved me a few thousand at purchase and proved to be a quality little cheap car that didn't bust the bank.

I own a white 2015 smart fortwo Passion and have had it for over five years in Massachusetts. I bought it with 9 thousand miles on it for 7 grand and it doesn't quite have 30 thousand miles on it yet. I commute 22 miles a day and I own a winter beater for the really bad snow that my car can't handle in the winter. I had to replace front rotors and pads and the muffler. The flex pipe rotted out but the muffler was fine. I bought a new muffler on Amazon for 200 bucks and changed it myself. No other issues with the car.

I've been toying with getting one of these for years. Perfect car for London. They're incredibly common here. I have heard that parts are becoming a bit harder to come by. In the UK anyway.

Great video! Comprehensive with excellent shots. The car, however, did not start at $8,000. I wish it did! I think the high price prevented people from buying them. Had they been cheaper, perhaps they would have survived, but they really could not be any cheaper. Smart is one of the great engineering achievements of its era, despite the lackluster transmission and suspension. I love mine!
