It is interesting to watch this in hindsight. Fernandez's Elvis free skate was a weaker program, it was the same old, same old entertaining program, which was totally in his comfort zone. He struggled in the season and bombed his free skate at Worlds 2017, too, where he ended up off podium. He peaked at Worlds 2016 and it went already downhill for him after that. It was a mini miracle he could podium at the Olympics, after he couldn't really skate to clean 3-quad programs anymore. Hanyu's free skate on the other hand was totally out of his comfort zone (btw it is classical music, contamporary Japanese classical), and it was an experimental program. Prince was superb, too. He skated to a fantastic performance that earned him a new WR and his second Worlds gold in Helsinki. He upped his technique compared to Seimei, so that program was even more difficult than Seimei. Then he was horrible injured again before the Olympics but managed to win his second gold medal with the more crowd pleasing, fantastic Seimei program and 4 quads. Truly the greatest of all times.

I saw Javier in Boston too. Even though Hanyu had a couple of errors there, Javier's confidence, happy performance, perfect jumps and showmanship were out of this world. He skated as if he had already won. Exactly right - "he slaughtered it." A skate for the ages. And yes, Hanyu peaked too early last season.

Did you preview the dance teams or did I miss it?

I can't agree the statement about pre-rotation of Shoma. It's similar to U-R and wrong edge take-off of flip and lutz. If your technical has shortcomings, you should be punished. Like Mao Asada always struggles to her flutz and U-R of 3A and 3F3Lo in her career. Shoma has obviously pre-rotation but not be punished. It's unfair to other skater with pure technical.
