Went to go do my rear brakes on my 2019 GMC terrain only to discover the automatic brake thing. Puzzled, I dashed to KZfaq and found your video and your video is right on and very helpful. It's a pain in the ass extra step for the rear brakes but it's pretty easy and only takes a few extra minutes... Thanks again...

If your just changing pads you don’t need to remove the carrier (the 18mm bolts)

can you apply a little heat on those bolts or is that not advisable?

Very good video ! Beware if you live in the northern part of the USA the salt corrodes the EPB bolts quickly. The caliper bracket bolts came out very hard all the way to the last thread due to red thread locker. (The bottom bolt can be removed with a 1/2" impact using a universal and short extension )

Really good video ! I just did mine with 58,000 miles and the pads still have a lot left . I thought my rotor was grooved but it actually was the outer pad with a small groove . The one you did the rotor looked pretty trashed but the pads also looked pretty thick still . Any reason the pads are holding up so well ?
@fupabox
@fupabox Жыл бұрын
Rear pads last 2 to 3 times longer than fronts since the rears only provide about 10-15% of the actual braking . It’s one of the reasons many manufacturers stuck with drums on the rear decades after front brakes went to disc .
@jimvezina8813
@jimvezina8813 Жыл бұрын
@@fupabox That wasn’t the experience I had with my (2) Acadias which went through rear pads at a 2-1 rate of the fronts . My Terrain fronts are also holding up slightly better than the rears .

Button by your left knee near lower part of dashboard . Press to engage, press again to turn off . The brake light on the gauge cluster should come on when the parking brake is on

I need to do rear pads/rotors on my 2017 Malibu hybrid sedan. Hopefully using this video as a reference I won't have any issues. My biggest concern is the electric parking break. I'm guessing that disconnecting the battery is how to keep it in service mode? And the only reason you unplug the connection to the motor is to make it easier to remove from the caliper bracket?
@fupabox
@fupabox Жыл бұрын
Correct . The connector is removed to make the Caliper removal easier . The neg battery cable u hook is to prevent the parking brake from fighting against you .
@danielclark1831

Big ? Sir. My mechanic changed my rear brakes but didn’t disconnect the negative part on the battery. Now the parking brake light flashes. I don’t even hear the noise when I hit the parking park on my 2019 Chevrolet Equinox. What can we do now to fix that?
@scraplifetrashtocash4551
@scraplifetrashtocash4551 Жыл бұрын
U need a scan tool when doing this job. He is good enough to take off the ear. Your mechanic probably did the job wrong. That is dangerous to drive if it's not done correctly. I wouldn't suggest anyone doing the breaks like this guy did. He also left off the v pens that goes over the break pads and locks them into position

So we were doung my rear breaks on 2018 gmc terrain. We did not disconnect the wire. Had the dorr open and a kid had accidentally pushed the parking break button while the caliper was off. The piston pushed all the way off and then fell out. Brake fluid leaked. My question is if i turn the car on without turning on ignition is it okay if i push the button again to release the parking break or will that make things worse? Thanks
@summerowens5453
@summerowens5453 11 ай бұрын
Or is it better to take the parking break motlr off and release the fully extended piston by hand?
@scraplifetrashtocash4551
@scraplifetrashtocash4551 Жыл бұрын
Why didn't u put the v pens on the break bracket? The ones that go on both sides? To lock the pads into place. Also why didn't u just use a scan tool for the Ebr? Those break easily and can fail the way u showed how to do it.

If your just changing brake pads you don’t need to remove carrier. Just remove calliper and both pads can be removed outward. Atleast that’s how it was on my 2018 terrain.
