I know it is controversial, even amongst season hunters, to shoot Giraffes.
I decided to hunt one when I heard the backstory from Kemp, a guide I met at the Huntex show in 2015. We discussed a lot of topics, but this one intrigued me.
90% of Giraffe bulls turn sterile when they get 12 years old.
They will defend the Matriarks position to the death, and they often kill the next bull in line fighting over this. The result is a herd that stops breeding.
This is why hunts for Giraffe bulls are offered to the public.
I decided to hunt one, and I used a 416 Rigby. Big caliber for big animals.
The 60-meter shot was a perfect heart shot both times. The Hornady DGX bullets penetrated the heart fully and went into the gut. I was impressed with the penetration of this caliber.
