Is the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe a case of form over function? James drives the GLE 350d 4Matic Coupe to find out. It retains all the space and usability of the wagon, while offering a bit more of a road-going statement. The V6 engine and gearbox are smooth and powerful enough on the move.
There is loads of equipment for the ‘entry’ model but the Airmatic ride does not quite the right mix between comfort and dynamic precision, and it’s a heavy thing, and you feel it under brakes.

when me made the x6...everybody said they was ugly,ridiculous ,impractical but every auto designer now have their own version of what the x6 started...& people are giving them great reviews..but slaughtered the x6

Greg Miel - agreed. The interior is atrocious. The slightly smaller GLC coupe has the nicer interior from the C-class.

TheLifeOnHigh no way - the GLC has a super cheap interior by comparison. The GLE coupe might look like the older ML shape - but it’s far from that!!

Nice review. the dashboard is dated though and not acceptable, considering that, the GLC has an upto date dashboard like the one found in C-Class. It would be nice to see Audi offer a coupe version of the Audi Q7, perhaps may be called QS7 or QS6. that will surely have the virtual cockpit interface (something that is not on offer by BMW or Benz)

Utibe Akpan it is offered in the e class and s class, soon to be featured in the 2018 c class. Keep in mind that the gle was first named ml and came out in 2012 so yes, it's going to be a bit outdated compared the the q7. Remember in 2012 when the ml was new, the q7 was old and felt really old compared to the ml. Same thing here.

We have to trust James on this one, he's a big man (over 6 ft tall) so if he can find it comfy, most of us can. I remember when he reviewed the GLC (even though a mid size SUV), it feels like he is reviewing a hatch back. Good work guys keep it up, looking forward to seeing more reviews for the upcoming new cars.

James is 6 ft 4 inches tall. So most people will swim in this car as the average height for men around the world is between 5 ft 7 inches to 5 ft 9 inches.

Daramy If he is 6'4 then I'm 6'6. I'm really 6'4 and my head almost touches the roof in the non-coupe version in the back. My head touches the roof in a 750li with a baseball cap on.

Why you are saying GLE 'Wagon'? Multiple times? Can the non-coupe model be considered a SUV?

Yes - the GLE Wagon (aka the new ML) is an SUV. As is the GLE Coupe. We refer to the 'wagon' to avoid any confusion.

I really can't understand why you (and many other reviewers) compare Merc & BMW... BMW is for people who like sporty driving and Benz is for people who want a very quiet comfortable ride... It's like comparing apples and oranges... Benz have one of the quietest cabins and a very comfortable ride while BMW have a harder ride and better handling... It's like comparing sneakers with formal shoes... Have you ever seen a government official being driven around in a BMW?

the x6 has a nicer interior. mote in line with present designs. this car is still based on the gle wagon...which was just given a facelift. basically its based off a facelifted car hence the reason why the interior looks kinda dated

GLE coupe is definitely much prettier then X6 but I still cant get the idea of SUV coupe - this is totally pointless car! Speaking of car apps and electronics - 90% of the electronics in modern car is there just because the buyers are idiots. It is useless but brings easy money to the manufacturers - take it out of the car and you'll have better car for sure!

Just bought this car because I personally find it the pritiest SUV. Shame the ride is absolute rubbish, couldn’t even imagine a Mercedes would have such a bad quality ride. The car is in constant movement. So bad that I tend to use any of the other cars in the garage.. 😓

DJust787 i don't know where your plastic was but i think you're just jealous and trying to boost mazda's image with you propaganda. I'm neutral but everything is wrapped in leather, the dash, the doors, the glove box. And the use of aluminum trim is impressive. My dad just bought the 2014 ml (gle) but he tried the mazda suv, and quality wise, the benz was much better, more silent, smoother ride, better fuel economy with the turbo v6 diesel engine. They had both the same amount of technologies but in my opinion, i feel like the benz was more composed. The mazda was also more expensive because it was new. I mean, the mercedes has harmon kardon sound system and the mazda had none. And we love quality music.
