Sports bikes are often designed to be fun at speeds above 90 mph. That's why these bikes have a lot more character and enjoyment at lower speeds.

Had a chance to ride one 3 days ago (only the demo model was left at the dealer, all others were sold already). I put my deposit down immediately after riding. This bike is a blast to ride, workmanship excellent, and has 75+ mpg which easily gives a 200 mile range on the tank. Chose this bike over the Scout which I was also considering and have ridden multiple times. Could not get over the 100 mile per tank range on the Scout though was a nice bike to ride. Mirrors on the Triumph do have to go, and will get the fly screen, sump protector and possibly the center stand option, but compared to the upgrades I would have needed to do on the Scout or the smaller Harley's I was considering, the price on the Street Twin is a bargain.

wow, I am surprised how good it sounds on youtube. Very nice deep tone to it. Sure the Thruxton R looks good, but there is a nice elegant simplicity to the street twin that I like.
@tooresttrikie67448 жыл бұрын
they looked great at the SSEC Birmingham UK show last November . the Misseden Flyer thought the mirrors were crap but apart from that the whole bike is really good! and oh yes it goes into the left side of the road (correct side lol) because its British!

I had to laugh when you said that it was down on power and that you hoped to eat your words as I knew that you would! :-) It's a lovely bike. Nicely priced too. I came to the conclusion that it is so much lighter (20 kgs) and so much more zip than the old bonnies... :-) There are quite a few detractors about the lack of power but the torque makes up for it! I'm REALLY looking forward to the T120 and especially the Thruxton R. If the 1200 is the same step up that the Street Twin is from the old Bonnie, they it's going to be one hell of an engine! Thank you for the video! :-) Tally Bally Ho!

Just thought I'd share: ive ridden the street twin a couple of times and I have a mag wheel Bonnie (the bike that the street twin directly replaced) and I've got a few thoughts on it. First off, things I like about the street twin... I love how triumph listened to their customers. People wanted the locking gas tank, more torque and more umphy brakes. The classic smoothness that I'd say triumph is pretty well known for didn't seem lost with this new gen Bonnie. The high torque 900cc liquid cooled engine, ride by wire and assisted slipper clutch feel very friendly and it seems like a new rider could get to know it very well. However I think the street twin had more of an appeal to sportbike or possibly even big cruiser riders because of the low end kick and the umphy brakes. Let's also talk about the mag wheel Bonnie. First off let it be noted I'm also comparing to what I remember about the previous generation T100. Why? Because I got the bike used and I have no idea what is stock or not. I've asked mechanics and they said it looks to be mostly stock so I'm going off that and the comparison to the previous T100 as mentioned earlier. So if you wanted to know what a classic Bonnie felt like, I'd say the previous generation (mag wheel) Bonnie is the better choice. No doubt you can feel the difference in the slipper clutch, the ride by wire and the liquid cooled engine. And even the low end umph over the high end umph of the previous gen. If you are a sportbike rider, you aren't going to like this kind of bike because the muscle memory on the brakes is going to make them feel like crap. However me not being a sport rider, I will say that I've brought my Bonnie to a roaring hault that not even the family car can do. Just keep in mind the brakes can lock up. Sportbike riders also seem to prefer the low end kick over top end kick, the latter being the previous gen. Personally, I love all bikes and bike brands. I'm just a bike kinda guy. The previous and new generation Bonnie are wonderful and I applaud triumph for listening to their audience and giving them something new while retaining the classic look (although it sounds to me like they didn't have a choice with the air vs liquid cooled debate as England has a law where all bikes have to be liquid cooled now? Maybe someone from there could shed some light on that) and I'll say that Harley Davidson (again I'm not a Harley hater but this should be said:) hasn't done that. They have mostly left their bikes untouched except for a few tweaks here and there. I've noticed that indian listens and changes bikes accordingly as well. It's just my 2 cents take it for what it's worth.

I have been waiting to get a bike for a few years but never found one that really offered what I wanted. This does. From what I have seen on this and Captain Rambunctious (thank you), it's a thrill, looks gorgeous, not a nuts bike, will commute and offer weekend fun, low(ish) running costs and a smattering of British heritage. The more experienced riders can go for the T120 and Thruxtons which look fabulous as well, but for me the simple, clean lines and raw fun of the Street hit the spot. Did you go down the wrong lane with pure excitement?

I'm planning to test ride this bike tomorrow and having owned three recent Triumphs including two previous Bonnies (a 2002 T100 Centennial model and 2009 SE) I'm interested to see how it compares. I do like the clean looks and clocks, although I'm puzzled that a bike with so much less horsepower can be much faster. My assumption is that most Bonnie riders will not be interested in bouncing the engine off the rev-limiter, so will not notice any top-end disparity. I'd include myself in that group BTW. I'll also be comparing it to the Ducati Scrambler, a bike that also hugely impressed me recently.
@calmoto90738 жыл бұрын
+sfbdotcom I still haven't ridden the Ducati; I better get after it.
@speedymoto95628 жыл бұрын
+sfbdotcom I recently road the R9T, Street Twin, and Ducati Scrambler back to back to back in that order. Always love the boxer on the R9T along with the fit and finish. Then road the Street Twin and loved the feel and torque of the motor and couldn't help but think that I was having as much fun as I did on the R9T and it cost $6000 less! Loved the Ducati. Way more Hooligan than the Street Twin. Ducati Scrambler, even at 803cc, 75bhp makes want to wheelie and stand up a lot, ride like a bandit. I also like the mild trail ability. Ducati starts to get very vibey over 50-60 mph. I felt none on that Street Twin, even going 70 mph in 3rd gear which it did comfortably. I also find the Casio style digital dash on the Ducati useless. At the end of the day, they're all great bikes!
@CornishMotorcycleDiaries8 жыл бұрын
Having now ridden the Street Twin, I can post my impressions of it vs the Ducati Scrambler. Sadly I forgot my DSLR and my iPhone malfunctioned so no video, but there's more than enough of that now. In summary, I was disappointed, not because it was a bad bike, far from it; it's an excellent bike, torquey and well mannered with good brakes and handling with up to date tech stuff. No it's actually because there weren't enough rough edges. It just didn't feel like a Bonnie, too sanitised, despite the 270 degree crank. Even the Vance and Hines Exhaust was a bit puny. Maybe I'm being a bit hypercritical because the bike has been so hyped. Overall, I think the Ducati, despite it's faults (hard seat, gear change) has more character and is more fun to ride. My next port of call on this round of bike reviews will be the BMW F700GS low version which is sort of the Captain Sensible, do everything in a low key way kind of bike of this type. I might even remember my camera on that occasion...

Did I notice your engine cutting out at 4:25 as you were changing down when slowing to a stop at traffic lights and that you had to restart it? A similar problem was noted by Simon Greenacre in his written review on the Visordown website, he thought that the Triumph engineers may have been aware of it too.
@calmoto90738 жыл бұрын
+returningbiker You sure did. I kept the revs up a bit a the other stops for fear of stalling. I figured it is an adjustment issue that is easily remedied.

Nevertheless, I most likely won't get the chance to ride it for such a long ride to really test it thoroughly ;( A friend told me to have at least an knee angle of 90degree. I already had the opportunity to sit on the ST and I'd guess the angle is just around 70°. So, I'm afraid to get hurting legs after some hours........

Captain R's comment that the Thruxton 1200 will have more bhp but less torque than the t120 1200 is not quite right. The Thruxtons will have more bhp AND more torque than the t120. The Triumph dyno charts show the Thruxton as having more torque than the t 120 all the way from 2000 rpm to the redline. They will also be lighter than the T120, especially the Thruxton R with it's Showa front fork and Brembo brakes. In addition there is a race kit available which bumps torque and bhp while dropping weght .

Am I missing something? "I really didn't wanna say nice things about Triumph"? What's with all the hate?
@calmoto90738 жыл бұрын
+João Soares Triumph North America sucks. Triumph products have been very disappointing in the past few years. I is a relief to me that they have done something correct.

Cal Moto How have Triumph products been disapointing in the past few years? Have they been unreliable? Uncool? Slow? Expensive?
@calmoto90737 жыл бұрын
I'm exclusively talking about the previous generation of modern classics; weak brakes, suspension, and power. I'm also commenting on Triumph as a business concern.

Watching this makes me a bit sad... I´m living very close to the alps and streets here are curvy and way more fun than riding just straight like in some regions of america

gonzozil depends whether you are talking ft-lb or Nm. It is 80 Nm, but 59 ft-lb I think

you are correct. I was thinking Nm. =)

Great bike, but it is a shame that it is made in Thailand & not England!Should be called a Thaiumph?
@harishkiran36638 жыл бұрын
It's made in Thailand and it shows. It is great bike unlike the predecessor because it's made in Thailand!
@kentoxymoron68578 жыл бұрын
There is nothing wrong with it being made in Thailand, it is a great product. They should not pretend that it is made in England.

I am amazed these idiots would make a bike without a tacho. It is typically Triumph. they were never purists but just a stamped out unengineered marketing product.
