@chrisboling6390

You can rope climb any Palm as long as it is not dead run your rope past the second row of fronds around the head of the palm, you can also rapel down instead of climbing down.. palms can be easy if you have this equipment but I always use spikes too since palms are clean until you reach the top! If you don't have spikes and you swing out it's a pain in the ass to regain composure!

I was wondering if I was the only one who thinks he was slow.. I'm pretty sure I can do all that faster just using a Blake's hitch but I'm not exactly sure what are they judging on this competition.. if its only walk on the limbs and get to the targets Its easy but idk if youre supposed to be touching the tree with atleast one hand all the time lol

@@xRedApache exactly, and if you want to bring your own equipment for climbing they wont allow it. They dont let me use carbines or pulleys, anything that isnt old school. Its not my problem they cant get with the times. "Safety first"....oh wait dont forget about production. Job briefings everyday, and everytime you change location. Just dont take too long filling them out, lol. And they always critique others work style without giving any input for us to improve ourselves. Basically telling us how to do our job, without them being able to set a freaking lifeline. What a joke, some of these Safety guys cant even put a climbing saddle on due to their size. How did they even get the job, by reading a book and passing a written test. Smh, ask them to climb a tree and remove overhanging limbs of the primary line, they cant. How can they enforce something they cant do themselves. I enjoy the work in a way, just trying to get by day by day at this point. I want to learn more and advance in being a proficient arborist. Goodluck, man. Safety first, fuck the production. As long as you are safe take your time. Cheers.

What a load of bullshit. I am a tree surgeon and this isn't challenging. It's basic branch walking. Try climbing vertical limbs with no foot holds and hardly any lateral branches where you have to pull yourself up with brute strength until you reach a lateral branch to anchor into. I've done this on big willows, high up on wet and windy days in the UK. Far more challenging than this. Any other tree surgeons here will know what I am on about.

Dude I also climb(boulder, sport, and trad) and this is legitimately complex rope work. I'm going to guess that you haven't done all that much climbing on ropes, because he's using a pretty complex system.
@Prohortico

Speed is not the entire point, this is a competition for arborits. They are specifically looking for safe practices and things that others wouldn't care about such as moving through the tree without causing damage as well as limb walking without bending the branches, this requires ropes to be used to both support the climber and in some cases the limbs that are being walked on. It's like doing the limbo in reverse, you have to keep some of those branches from bending below a certain point... anyone can climb faster than this, but not controlled while meeting the criteria of the competition.

Met about half a dozen guys saying they climb rocks at work and none of them could climb a real tree. "Rock climbers" are almost a inside joke in the tree business because of it.
@lifeisgood070

I climb rocks and trees. Trees is less grip strength and more thought. Both have very awkward positions. Trees is definitely more dangerous especially once you bring out the chainsaw. The rigging in trees is definitely something that takes longer to learn than building a bomber climbing anchor. Both are possible. Get a static rope and try in your tree. The gear is about as expensive as a decent trad rack maybe 1k-ish

James I worked over 10 tree companies and still haven't found a match there ain't a climber out there that is quicker than me that I've seen he is somewhere out there but it's going to be one out of a million for sure and in your video you're missing something almost all your videos you're missing this one thing and for me to know and you to find out would be nice for you to know the answer. I have no problem sharing it with you but if you would like to race, then that would be on the competition day you will see what you're missing. I'm one hundred percent guaranteed what I'm telling you.. climbing a loan is 100% easier then having a lot of gear on you and tools but with just the ropes it's real simple but you're missing something and I can tell you what it is but we have to go on a competition spree. The I'm not bluffing. 🙄

Why not both? I don't see how it is disrespectful to spend hours trying to find how a tree can be climbed. Most people walk by and don't even pay attention. Getting physically implicated into the tree's structure means you have a much higher awareness of it.
