I’m buying the same exact car you have here, I’m very excited! and I sure don’t want to sit in there to try and figure everything out myself because I’m not good with technology AT ALL! If there’s any other cool stuff drop another video! I’d sure like to know to work it all before I have it*

Great review! I bought used 2015 accord hybrid touring 2 months ago and Ioving it. My combined average is around 45 mpg. Summer in Texas is hot so running A/C 100% of the time. I think I can get higher mpg if I don't run A/C.
@ChristopherDurham

Thanks. Yes, the AC does take a toll on the MPG because the gas engine runs almost 24/7 when the AC does. I've noticed the same as you.

Nice review. I bought the same exact car you did and I love it! I think everyone should have some kind of hybrid, it will change the way you drive. I'm waiting for some 3rd party apps, like Waze etc I took a trip to Charleston (about 250 miles) and average 51 MPG running at 65 MPH. The LKAS is the bomb, it made the trip a snap
@ChristopherDurham
@ChristopherDurham 7 жыл бұрын
I wish I knew how to load apps into the infotainment system. I know it can take apps, I just never bothered to figure out how. 51mpg at 65mph is impressive. I don't think I get anywhere close to that when running at hwy speeds. I'm usually in the 44/45 range when the cruise is set 65/70mph.

What is the traditional battery under the hood for if there is already a big one in the trunk? Do you still have to change it every x years for the car to start like with regular vehicles?
@sjsphotog
@sjsphotog 7 жыл бұрын
under the hood battery is for using the radio and power AC/electrical / LED lights, etc when the car is OFF but in Accessory mode. the battery in the back (hybrid) is for actually driving the car. if you sucked up the hybrid battery for all the infotainment and lighting it would get MUCH worse MPGs

Bought this car after watching your reviews. Was deciding between it and an Audi A4. In the end figured this would save me about 15-20k and the difference was basically 40 hp and a pass through back seat(not worth). Thanks for making.
@ChristopherDurham
@ChristopherDurham 7 жыл бұрын
Wow, I hope you like the car. I can tell you after 6 months, the only negative thing I have to say is with it being cold outside, I don't get much over 40mpg. Running the heat and seat warmers, the car runs a lot less on battery only. It's understandable and I can't really complain.

One trick to get better MPG in winter is to use the seat heaters ONLY or as much as possible, Using the regular heater uses the gas engine and sucks your MPG down. use seat heater on HIGH as much as possible esp when your 1st start the car up when its cold. When it gets warmed up after 10 mins of driving then you can turn on the regular heater if needed. Many times if its not so cold the seat heater is enough and no reg heat mode needed. try it and see the diff in MPG for yourself,

Thanks, will do. My only negative after 300+ miles is of the CVT. Its the same complaint everyone has of CVT engines. It seems to rev for what amounts to no reason. You can hear the engine spin up like it's working like crazy but you're merely keeping up with traffic. From what I've seen, all CVTs have a weird feeling to them that people aren't used to.
@jfeliciano2687
@jfeliciano2687 8 жыл бұрын
+Christopher I've heard that about cvt transmissions but from what I've read and how I understand it, people only feel that way because they've always had a "traditional" transmissions which EVERYONE has become very comfortable with the performance and sound that comes from the pairing of that transmission and engine combo. Random knowledge, Honda Civic had a model (HX) with a cvt they discontinued because they were coming out with a hybrid and the cvt outperformed it if I'm not mistaken that is.

+Christopher Are you a costco member? When i purchased my civic, they have a list of all honda vehicle and trims discounts. I'm spoiled with mpg when i had the ct200h but don't have it anymore. So my next car will definitely be the 2017 accord hybrid but contemplating between touring and ex-l. Nice car and i like the color!
@ChristopherDurham
@ChristopherDurham 8 жыл бұрын
Chr Gav I'm not a costco member but the dealer wasn't giving out a discount on the car regardless. They are so new that most dealers don't even have them yet. In a few months, when dealers have 3-4 on the lot, they might be had for less than MSRP but right now, there's no need for a dealer to flex on the price. The added features on the Touring are Navi, LED headlights, auto wipers and rear heated seats. Considering that Android Auto or Apple CarPlay gets you a navi system for free, I don't see the need to pay $3k more for a navi system that you won't update, rear seats that you won't sit in and LED lights.
@chrgav1286
@chrgav1286 8 жыл бұрын
+Christopher Yeah that's what i was think about touring and ex-l but having the civic touring got me liking the LED headlights. 3k for nav, rear heated seats, sonar and led headlights does sounds way way too over priced. I'll see what they can offer me. Again thanks and have a nice day!

does any one know whats the range on EV mode for this car
@ChristopherDurham
@ChristopherDurham 7 жыл бұрын
You'd have to travel very slow in order to get extended EV range. EV mode cuts off any time you press the pedal more than about 1/3 of the way. It also cuts off when you get somewhere around 40mph. Once you get up to highway speed, it will turn off and on as needed. Also the road will factor in. In EV mode, if you have to travel up even the slightest incline, it's probably going to kick the gas engine on.

No doubt the Touring model has some better features and if the extra money is no issue, I'm sure they are worth it. But with Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, that negates the cost of a navi system since you can get better maps that are updated daily for free.

+Christopher How does it drive?
@ChristopherDurham
@ChristopherDurham 8 жыл бұрын
Demetrius Leitzsey I'd say it drives great. It's peppier than I would have thought and take turns as expected. The CVT does rev when you step on the throttle but I think that's expected. I don't know if I've ever looked at the MPGs and seen less than 45mpg so that's great as well. ACC and LKAS work just fine and even the accident avoidance is non intrusive. I've only seen it flash Brake once while my GFs GMC Terrain flashes brake and beeps at the slightest shadow of an overpass. I think I'm going to enjoy driving this car for a while.
@ChristopherDurham
@ChristopherDurham 8 жыл бұрын
ourworlds atwar If you hit the sport button, I'd say it's a peppy car. I wouldn't call it fast but you can easily squeal the tires for a second. The sport button engages both engines at once. Mine is a EX-L.

How can you charge the battery? for example if you want to do a stupid long trip and you want full range of battery + gas is there a way to charge the battery overnight to just start your trip in the morning with full battery and full tank?
@ChristopherDurham
@ChristopherDurham 8 жыл бұрын
Nope, there's no way to charge the battery by itself. The battery does charge during regen braking and while the gas engine is running. There's also the regen braking option on the gear shifter. You can put into "B" and that puts a heavy drag on the engine while not accelerating that's regenerating the battery. I have noticed that if you do have a lot of charge on the battery when you stop, once you turn the car on again, it will run on battery until it gets to about 2 bars.
@skirmich
@skirmich 8 жыл бұрын
Christopher Thanks for the reply! then what is the battery % for? can you run out of battery? It will never be fully charged? Man my OCD would just destroy me If I cannot keep both bars at full or at least even hahahaha.
@ChristopherDurham
@ChristopherDurham 8 жыл бұрын
Nah, it'll never be both full. The battery tends to charge to 75/80% then run the car only on battery as long as you don't stomp on the throttle. The most I've been able to get off battery is maybe 5 miles.

I also have the 2017 Accord Hybrid Touring and driving from NC to NYC through I81 to I78 at speeds just below 80 I received 35MPG on the highway. Also the temperature was about 50 degrees, I don't know if that contributed because I know Hybrids get less MPG in extreme cold or heat. 50 is not extreme cold but the battery did appear to be not as responsive even when driving through Brooklyn on way to Holland Tunnel. Still I will take 35MPG on Regular Gas over the low 20's my 2007 Acura RL would give under the same driving conditions using Premium Gasoline. Ride quality and comfort between the Accord and RL was indistinguishable. Also I owned a 2016 Civic Touring and always received false alarms of a car ahead from the Adaptive Cruise Control. I did not receive these errors with my Accord. Maybe just because it sits higher and received a better line of sight for the Adaptive Cruse Control's sensors.
@ChristopherDurham
@ChristopherDurham 7 жыл бұрын
35MPG does seem a bit low. I was getting around that when I was driving across the country, but I was going over the Rockies with a car loaded with stuff and doing around 80MPH the whole way. The weather does affect MPG a lot. I only commute about 10 miles to work now and during the winter with the heat on and probably seat heater too, I'd get around 39-40MPG. Now that the weather is better and the heat is rarely turned on, I get almost 45MPG during my daily commute and 47MPG or more if I don't drive aggressive. Not quite hypermile, but just a relaxed cruise. I've never seen any false alerts from the ACC, but I have seen it get confused by a vehicle in a lane next to me. Maybe 2 or 3 times in the 10 months I've owned the car it's happened where the car will slow down without the beeps and brake light as if there was a car in front of me.
@map0824
@map0824 7 жыл бұрын
That is what my Civic Touring did often. I would be in the left lane with nothing ahead of me and a tractor trailor or car would be in the right lane and the care would slow down while using the Adaptive Cruise Control. The car got totaled so I didn't ever resolve it then I purchased the Accord.
@map0824
@map0824 7 жыл бұрын
Update. I drove from NC to Brooklyn and Back. I used adaptive cruise and kept the speed under 60 and received over 60MPG. Slower speed is not optimal for everyone but I wasn't in a hurry and once I saw 60 MPG I did not want to get less MPG.
@ChristopherDurham
@ChristopherDurham 7 жыл бұрын
That's awesome. I think the highest I've ever seen was 63MPG but that was only a 15 mile trip in traffic. If I keep my speeds between 65-70, I can get around 49/50MPG when I take 100 miles trips to NJ now that it's summer.
@sjsphotog
@sjsphotog 7 жыл бұрын
The Hyrbid was designed more for stop and go traffic and normal city driving up to 40 MPG if you arent using the brakes or coasting (meaning let go of the gas and go into EV mode normally, not by using the the EV button near the drive gear shift). If you drive >45 mph all the time then you will use the gas engine and lose MPG. Diesels are best for long trips at 65+ mph like on the freeway/autobaun. the plug in / all electrics are best in the city for short trips. so un your case its doing exactly as expected. All Hybrids get better MPG in the city with mixed driving not straight long highway. Try to reset your trip B on the dash display and compare the data

LOL I'm the same way when i get a new vehicle. I play with the settings and all to get the feel of it. My civic gets 29-31mpg combine which is decent but 700+ miles in 1 tank is awesome. Can't wait when i get one of this in the near future. Again Grats and nice color!

I've been playing with the settings for a few days now. The menu button turns off the ACC and LKAS systems while driving. I don't know why it's called menu but that's exactly what it does. I'll see if I get the full 700 miles to a tank. So far, I have 350 miles and just a little under half a tank. Still over 300 miles that it says I have projected left. It's still in it's break in period so maybe it'll get even better.

+Christopher I can't say it enough but i envy you getting the new accord hybrid. You're close to doubling my avg miles per tank(350-370) and knowing you're still in the break-in period says a lot. This accord will definitely my next car. Sorry for being excited and all. LOL! Have a nice day!

It's all good and I appreciate the envy. I've been looking for a hybrid for a while but didn't want a prius. Finally found one that competes with the prius but has a lot more space. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I'll make whatever video you want to know more about.

Is the color sky blue or lunar silver? Also, were you able to get any cash rebate/discount for the car?

Lunar silver. They weren't offering any deals on the 2017 models. I was only able to find 5 within 50 miles so they are still few and far between.

What's your average MPG after driving it for a couple months now?
@ChristopherDurham
@ChristopherDurham 8 жыл бұрын
When I was driving locally mixed hwy and city it would be about 44.7mpg. On my trip across the country, I'd say it was closer to 37mpg. But my car is loaded down and the first 1000 miles have been all hills and mountains.

Considering I was getting an average of 40 mpg in my 2014 prius Id say that's impressive for a much bigger car. Plus looks way cooler lol

+Tim G once I got to flatter roads and lower speeds I was able to get 41mpg on the highway. 80mph speed limits and all the stuff I had in my car was killing the mpg.

I'm assuming you're talking about the base model. All 3 trim levels are selling for about $3k less than MSRP. Get it! It's the highest MPG sedan in this size with the biggest trunk as well.

I agree. but i am not sure if this is a good thing or bad thing. I am concern that the aluminum hoods will not hold over time. I would think it would dent in a lot easier with a rock hitting it.

my wifes is just about ready to do a first FULL fill-up after buying it a few weeks ago so we will see but so far she is avg 49.5 mpg and of course her drive is ideal for this car with bumper to bumper traffic to Downtown LA. but even when its not bumper to bumper we are still getting excellent mpgs numbers in the 40-47 range.

we're getting 49.5 so far....first tank testing the range. will prob fill it up this weekend and log the mpgs on the Fuelly site. Christopher, be sure to get an account on Fuelly so you can track and share your mpgs with the other Accord Hybrid owners.

Great review! Really well done. I'm seriously considering getting one of these bad boyz. I have a 2000 Honda Accord SE right now, and I'm due for an upgrade. 48mpg combined is definitely tempting. Wondering if the Touring edition is worth the upgrade from the EX-L. Those LED lights are sweet. I wonder if they provide better clarity than the halogen version? I'll bet the rear seat passengers would appreciate the heated seats in the winter. :) BTW, be sure you have all the monetization features turned on for this video. You can earn some good $$$$ from ads on your KZfaq videos, especially this one. I make some decent monthly cash from this mattress video review: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b95jnaaczdeuo30.html. You could earn a monthly car payment if you do the same on this video. Anywho, thanks again man. Your video might have just turned me from used Subaru Outback to brand new Honda Accord hybrid. Awwww yeaaaa!

Good call. Plus, I have an iPhone which of course has Apple Maps and Google Maps. No need for Honda's nav system. Wish the red exterior color had the black interior option. They only allow it to have the ivory interior. Booooo....
@ChristopherDurham
@ChristopherDurham 8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I use Android and the maps will always be updated and works exactly like a normal navi system. Way better than paying for an update every year. My girlfriend has a navi system in her truck and never uses it. It doesn't know the fastest route depending on traffic or construction and always seems to try to take you off the route which you know is the faster.
