Like Apple’s iPhone or the McDonalds Big Mac, the i30 hatchback is Hyundai’s core product in Europe - that one thing which serves as the cornerstone, the backbone of its business.
To keep its core model fresh, Hyundai has updated the i30 with new looks and a redesigned cabin that’s packed full of new, high-tech equipment. It’s practical too, with a 1,301-litre boot and its 1.0-litre engine can, on paper, return up to 56.5mpg.
Practical, affordable and well-equipped, the i30 mightn’t be the most exciting car around but it’s easy to see why it’s been such a success, while attractive warranties could be the icing on the cake that tempts buyers away from one of the more common family hatches.

matt gmail that is a radar integrated into the badge. It has to be flat for the sensor this is for adabtive crusie control.

this model in particular, is on my shortlist to replace my existing i30 diesel. How does it compare with the revised seat leon and peugeot 308?

We think it all depends what you want really. the Leon is more sporty, especially if you go for the FR, whilst the 308 is a little more comfortable and stylish. We think the i30 sits nicely in the middle of them both with a decent level of kit to boot :)

the 1.0l is ok but the 1.4 is fantastic! i drove the 1.4dct with flappy paddles, dont get me wrong its not a race car but drives very well on the lanes. also had a 308 as a hire car so put that through its paces and isnt in the same league as the i30.

Do Brits really go for 1.0L cars? In Australia you'd struggle to find anything smaller than a 1.6. The i30 is sold here as a small car with 1.6L or 2.0L engines. You can get a 1.4L Hyundai Accent (marketed as a "city car"), but most opt for the 1.6L. Australians have historically always preferred 6 cylinder petrol engines over diesels. V6 SUVs are amongst the biggest sellers here.

Don Coleman Fuel is expensive in Europe and the taxation for larger capacity engines is high. Most people have to result to downsizing hence why you get 1.0l cars.

Any problems with 1.0 'lurching' when setting off and 1st to 2nd gearchange?

I like the look of the i20 but this and the rest of the range 😧 the quality also still seems to be lagging behind. A no go on any of the range for me.

I have driven one as a rental when I was in France; this car is so dull I wouldn't even look back to driving it again. It corners with confidence but the Steering is heavy and has no feedback. The diesel engine has no punch. The throttle pedal is stiff af and I had to put cruise control on during highway journeys to stop my foot from camp. drove it for about 5 days and I can confirm I could only get 6.3/100km from it. The Sat-nav is terrible as it keeps trying to take me cross country through the city of Paris.

I reckon you had a rogue one. I bought the 1.6 diesel and it is superb with plenty of guts and fuel economy way better than you describe. Go back and try another, I am sure you will change your mind.
