I feel like all of those numbers mean nothing when there’s nothing the 2021 can use it for. There doesn’t seem to be anything yet the 2017 can’t run effectively

These numbers really mean nothing. Yea the M1 is way faster on paper but it’s still running just iPad apps. The M1 is useless if the iPad isn’t running real programs. My 2017 10.5 is still able to do everything the M1 does because they both run iPadOS apps. I do wish I had a usb c port but the lack of hasn’t really limited me honestly.

i have a 2017 12.9 .. i haven't even used the m1 one but .... literally everything i ever tried/installed hasn't even phased it ... i'm on 15.2 and this tablet feels like a premium overpowered tablet. Literally everything works perfectly, the screen is snappy ... it feels like something that just came out of the store. I got a great deal on it (40% of the price of the M1 and can't be happier with my purchase).

I think you have to keep in mind how absurdly over powered the M1 is in an iPad !!! It's absolutely amazing they've got a desktop processor in an iPad, but depending on your use case obviously, I definitely think as long as you have at least the 2017 iPad pro, it's a win !
@xevus2959

It’s actually the other way around, the M1 chip is not a desktop chip as it comes from apples SOC design that Apple has been using since forever on iPhone and iPads but beefed up on their desktop counterparts called M1, M1 Pro, M1 Ultra respectfully.

I have the 2017 iPad Pro 10.5 and just bought the 2021 M1 11” iPad Pro. The 2021 iPad gives you a bit more space and the screen provides slightly better contrasts. One thing I noticed is that the speakers on the 2017 iPad has a more dynamic soundstage than the 2021 iPad. I have compared several songs on Spotify, music videos and movies. The 2021 iPad speakers sound more muffled. The 2021 iPad is a great machine but not worth the upgrade to the 2017, especially consider the sound quality. I am retiring the 2021 model and keeping my 2017.

You really see the difference if you get the 12.9in. I upgraded from the 2017 version to the M2 12.9in and there is a night and day difference in every task I do with this iPad it’s amazing. Definitely worth the upgrade imo.

Maybe less than 1% of people will notice the performance difference, even people who do video editing, or heavy graphics these 2 don't have much differnce. The price of 2nd hand 2017 Ipad pro is available for less than 50% of the price, so that is a major difference. The only sacrifice I think I would make if I got the 2017 over the 2021 is: - I will be stuck having to use the Pencil 1st gen. The worst design charging Idea ever invented. - The 2021 looks more modern Those are basically all I can see different for myself. I cannot see any reason to not get the 2017. The annoying pencil 1st gen is the biggest con, otherwise i can't tell. I dont know about battery on used ipads but overall regardless of all the numbers you put up the best value for money for 99% of people if they can overlook a few shortcomings is the 2017 ipad. One other issue might be age. Ipad 2017 is 4 years old, so there may be some merit to upgrading because of software support. I dont know how to put a value on it, but I know the ipad will work for many more years weather it gets IOS updates or not and for most people it wont matter for years even if IOS updates stop.

It would be good to mention the cons/downgrades of the ipads released after 2017: 1. Headphone jack removed 2. OIS - no Optical Image Stabilisation on the rear camera of ipads after 2017! 3. Smaller battery (8134mah on the 2017 ipad vs 7538 mAh batteries on the ipad 11 models) 4. Physical home button removed and no Touch ID (Face ID not as convenient and doesnt work with a mask) As someone who listens to a lot of music and uses the iPad casually just for web browsing and reading magazines and pdfs, I will be holding onto the 2017 iPad for quite a few more years until Apple seriously bump the hardware specs (OLED screen, Foldable, U1 chip so I can precision find my airtags, decent amounts of RAM). Given the price - stop short changing and overcharging the consumer with the tiny/iterative hardware specs and removing features! It's 4 years later and for my use case of casual web browsing, content consumption etc hardly anything has significantly improved for my use cases! I used to upgrade my ipad every 1-2 years as it was by far but I am confident that I will pay for a battery replacement before I eventualy upgrade it! Also, get the iPadOS software working as the current state is not acceptable for a productivity device aiming to be a laptop replacement.

Cons or the negatives of upgrading are a matter of perception and relevancy and while I would agree with that the lack of the headphone jack is a downside for some, the other two are not for most people.
@siddharthjain9702
@siddharthjain9702 2 жыл бұрын
1. Wireless headphones are better (my opinion) and you can use a dongle if you wish 2. Majority of the people don't use rear cameras in iPads 3. The iPad Pro 12.9 inch has 9720 mah battery. You mentioned the 11 inch. Plus it has a more efficient chipset and same battery backup of 10 hrs 4. Face ID is more secure and home buttons needs to be cleans so that it can detect it. You don't need to get your hand to the iPad when using smart keyboard. Face ID is faster. Some people may use iPad while eating. Corona is not permanent.

@birmaconsult
@birmaconsult Жыл бұрын
Hmmm… You ask me, the 10.5“ iPad is a completely different machine than the 12.9“, which was also available in 2017. The 12.9“ is just clumsy to handle when you are using it on foot, holding it with both hands, that is. It feels heavy and it is almost impossible to reach the central keys of the keyboard with your fingers in that position. When supported by a stand like the magic keyboard, of course, there is nothing you can replace screen-size with than with more screen-size. The version of 2021 is faster than the one of 2017. This is - kind of - a no-brainer. Of course it is. If it wasn‘t, nobody would ever buy a new iPad until the old one simply breaks. I am still not sure whether there are a lot of applications where I would actually „feel“ the difference between the old and the new iPad much in terms of performance.

I have the 2017, 10.5" iPad Pro, and yesterday my refurbished 2021, 11" M iPad arrived. Physically the 2021 seems smaller because of the smaller bezels, the thinner body with squared sides instead of the rounded bottom of the 2017. The screen is so much better, but I am unsure about the sound. Haven't tested them side by side. But I feel the 2021 is smoother in operation and lighter and overall much more comfortable in the cheap cover I bought with it. I bought a Logitech case/keyboard for the 2017 and it got so heavy. I am very happy with the 2021 which I find better on all levels.

here a few years later. I think the reduction in battery life 6-7 years later is by far the largest factor. Yes certain games bloated from so many updates are starting to really heat up and work my system but it never lags. Would say it could def be used through the late 2020s but if you want better battery upgrade soon. I actually prefer the form factor of the older one. The new one feels bulkier due to the edges not tapering, but it being more of a box. I prefer thin/light/large surface area, over bulky but smaller surface area personally. Most people are watching youtube or downloading netflix for their flight. Machine learning does not matter for Ipads

I still have my 10.5” 2017 version and for the amount of times I’ve dropped it it’s in almost perfect condition, the case is falling apart but I have no scratches or cracks anywhere. I want to upgrade to do more work on it since I’m now a student and I just want one that will last as long as my current one has as well as the fact I have a Samsung phone so I’d love a tablet to have a usb c port for less cables. I’m very old fashioned for a 19 year old and I like a headphone jack and my home button. This year was the first year I got a phone without a button and headphone jack and I do miss them personally, not enough where I don’t want to get a new iPad but enough where I’d miss it. Great video and was exactly what I’m looking for! I’m thinking of going for the 11” version and giving my mum my iPad Pro I’m using rn, she has an iPad air 2 with only 16 gb so I think it’ll be a good upgrade for us both! Thank you 😄

I have 2017 iPad Pro 10,5" and I'm going to replace it for 2021 Pro 11" bacause of performance (I see some music software need more power), but... 2017 generation design looks much better to me to be honest. I also prefer Touch ID. Apple could do the same in Pro as in iPad Air 4 - Touch ID in the button on the edge. Missing headphone jack is also a bummer for music makers. Apple still keep it in the newest base iPad models, Macbook Air and Pro, Mac mini, so why they removed it from iPad Pro which is more pricely?!? I don't get it... (I know is always about saved money by Apple, but... ehh, no words)

They removed the hp jack supposedly to fit more internals, but they just want you to buy AirPods. I also have the 2017 iPad pro 10.5 and have had a glitchy home button and noticeable battery performance decrease after having it for almost 3 years. So, I got the 2021 iPad Pro 11 because I got a $200 discount on it and I have to say that there is a noticeable difference in performance and speed - everything loads quicker and it feels snappier. Also, for a device of this size Face ID makes more sense because you usually hold the device with both hands and with Touch ID you have to reach up - think about every time you have to sign into your bank account or other websites. With Face ID you just hold it and you’re logged in, no need to reach up for the Touch ID. Now on an iPhone, I would agree with you that it would make sense to have Touch ID.

I keep the battery between like 25-75% and I haven't had to replace the battery yet. Good luck with the 11 Pro. It's a fantastic tablet. I just wish android tablets were more competitve. @ItsCaputo

No, I would not upgrade from a 2017 10.5 iPad Pro to 2018 11" iPad Pro because the upgrades are less noticeable now, several years later. Are you tied to 2018 11" for budget reasons or something different?

All these Benchmarks mean nothing. After a long time of thinking, I just sent in my 4,5 Year old 10,5" iPP for Battery Service to keep it, until there's no more iOS-Update (i guess in iOS 17). I'm not a heavy user, but my daily tasks work fine, absolutely no reason to upgrade. Plus: Upgrading means buying a new keyboard and a new pencil, which means a nice 300-400 Bucks extra just for a device with a little bigger screen and loads of (with iOS 15) unusable Power.

If ur on a budget and want 4k or anything heavy. Might as well buy: 2009-2015 iMacs I used photoshop with these computers and they work wonders with Adobe (cuz Adobe is a large application) They usually costs $400+ Or get an iPad mini 6/iPad air 4
