I have a 16 SDGT with 70k miles on it and still gives endless grins when twisting the wrist. Not perfect but loads of character and ridability. Love it.

@@emoservedwithfries I also own a GT and a R. The electronic suspension smooths out the small stuff in comfort mode but but will stiffen when needed.

This!! Sucks ktm stopped selling the GT in the US. I hate that you have to either choose between a naked and an adventure. A ZH2 GT would be amazing. Or an 890 Duke GT

In my country they just launched the 1290 SuperDuke GT a few months ago so they're probably only out of the US but still sold in other markets

I had this year and model and it always worried me that it wouldn't start. The starter clutch had an issue with this year and would slip when hot and squeal. Very confidence inspiring. Loved it overwise

42k happy miles on mine - 2k miles in 5 days recently. It’s the perfect tool for fast touring and hammering corners. One major failure under warranty and nothing since so far more reliable than my previous GS. Lots of warning lights but all solved by by-passing a number of emissions sensors and so fine for the last 10k miles.

What major failure did you get on the bike under warranty ? There are some 2016 and 2017 models in Sweden going for under 9000$ with around 20k miles on them. It seems to be alot of bike for the money but I am a bit concerned about KTMs reliability. I can not find anything as fast, comfortable and with so much tech and sporttouring capability for that kind of money on any of the other brands than KTM

@@mathias6423 Gearbox selector issue, required a full rebuild after damaging 5th and 6th cogs. Not aware of anyone else with the same issue. Good, strong bikes.

I’m in the market for a touring bike, and man I would love one of these, or a multi.. but the idea of spending so much money on something I can’t work on and with questionable long term reliability has me paused and thinking well maybe I’ll just get a tracer9 or a ninja1000/gsxs1000gt

I could be wrong but if they are ending production of the GT. It’s probably because the Evo has or has the option of everything it came with.

There’s been spy shots of an updated GT. The Evo is still just a Superduke R with electronic suspension so lacks the luggage option and 23l tank

Hey Chasee, could you talk to your yamaha friends and ask them why there is no stock of yammi bikes anywhere on the globe? The R line up is nowhere to be found. I live in Spain and i just bought and xsr 700. I wanted the R7 and they only got 1 R7 on the whole year, 2 R1 so far and the mt 07 was arriving 1-2 per month and i had to wait till november for one. Also no XSR 900 yet. This story was the same in 5 dealerships in Madrid (take in regards that all the bikes come from the France factory, so it´s weird). I have relatives in USA and it´s the same story. I honestly can´t understand it.

@chaseontwowheels; which would you choose if you were getting a new travel super bike? ktm 1290 gt or r, aprillia tuono 1100 v4, or the speed triple rr?

The only travel bike on that list would be the SDGT. Tuono and STRR are basically super sports with a bar instead of clip ons. Another option would be the S1000XR.

Basically I'm looking for a holy grail bike. One that is good at everything but doesn't need to be the best at anything in the super-naked spec.

@@emoservedwithfries I'd say from those three, SDGT. Tuono in a close second if you want to drop some comfort for a bit more track performance. STRR is very much track oriented. Feels even more aggressive than the normal superbikes.

V twin is a pig your 890 is perfection, especially if you have the R. Smokes 600’s all day at the track, hopefully i can afford one some day! I currently own the baby 390 duke but still fun :)

@@revmatchproductions different strokes for different strokes. The 890 is great, it just won't scare you. You can keep all imu and modes off, it's all really easily used power. I want to upgrade to something that will make be a bit afraid.

@@revmatchproductions the 890 sure would be fun on track, so light and flickable. But the 1290 has better sound and power in my opinion. The Superduke GT especially, is more versatile than the 890 Duke. I have seen people ride around sportbikes on track with the Superduke GT irl and on youtube aswell. It is a really good sporty tourer.

I had warranty jobs on both my BMW's, also recalls in the two years with each bike (s1kr and 1250GS), paint peeling off, shaft drive issues, brakes seizing, cylinder heads corroding, so BMW engineering really isn't that great, however the LC8 engine in the KTM is being quoted as one of the best in the world, far more exciting to ride day to day, depends what you want from a bike.

@@lovmyevox you must have gotten lucky, you get bad bikes with all brands yes, but this is me, my dad and his mates for the last six years with different BMW bikes 😬, aware there are less KTM's on the road and aware electrics can be troublesome, nothing that isn't fixed with a restart cycle and looking after the battery, rear shocks are prone to failure on 16-17 models, but this also happens with GS's.

You had the the wheelie control on otherwise she would have flipped over on you and pounded you into the pavement. You would have been giddier if it had an aftermarket pipe. My Superduke was like an electric car instant forward momentum if you can keep the front wheel down.

Obviously. But its a 1290. We have a benelli adventure with only 500cc which has a 20L fuel tank to its daaaamn heavy. Have you actually tried sitting on the 1290?

Have a 2019 SDGT, my first bike ever, and I regret nothing. Got it at 1700 miles, now at 6000 ish. Love it. They upgraded the bike in 2018 if im correct, a new TFT dash and the headlight got changed up, keyless fob. The cruise control is on the left side on the newer bikes and extremely easy to use. The vibration of hte mirrors and pegs though remains through the generations. My biggest gripe with the bike is the limited luggage. You are quite literally stuck with the KTM stock panniers, or the Hepco & Becker alternative C-Bow system. Ive scoured the internet and found nothing else that is supported. SWMotech had a system for the bike but its no longer sold.

2018 was just color changes, the best looking color on the old gen GT I think, black and orange. 2019 came the one with keyless and tft dash and so on. 2021 is the same as 2019 and next year 2023 there will be a new updated GT generation 3 version.

Got my 17 this summer, 4 years on the road. Excellent condition senior owned, 27k. Bought for 10500, owner paid 21,000 cdn 4 years back. Love the bike, bin very reliable, very fast

The new headlight looks very 'suzuki' with the LED split headlight, worse IMHO, and just following a trend of the last year

@@b1gd312 Yeah but there will probably be a glass casing around the headlight and will look more like new Ktms than Suzuki in the final product. Spyshots always look like shit though so we should not talk ahead of something that could look a lot different at release. I agree with you that the trends of many new bikes is that they look uglier than their older versions. MT-10 and Superduke GT are just a few of many bikes I feel look worse than their older gen models. Another thing that is getting worse with the Superduke GT is those cuts in the tank where your knees and kneecaps are supposed to be locked in. On the -17 model it is noticeable for a taller person that your knees are being forced under those edges on the tank and it feels uncomfortable and that your knees are being locked down that way and you cant move your legs. However on the newer model of the GT like -19 to -22 it is even worse and right out unbearable. I saw some taller motojournalists complain about this (Lamb chop rides here on youtube for an example) so I had to sit on a 2022 model to experience it myself. I dont know why KTM has to shape the tank that way, it is not like that on the Superduke R and Im really interested in the GT . I hope they may fix/change the shape of the tank edges on this new 2023 model and that it wont look worse than previous versions.

@@mathias6423 lambchops lives local to me and we ride the same roads, stop at the same meeting spots etc, I've got a 2019 SDGT arriving next week to replace my multistrada 1260 pikes peak, I honestly don't find the tank cutouts all that bad at all as a 6ft person, if you struggle you can buy lower footpegs which relocate your knee position 👍

@@b1gd312 Oh thats nice. Im not sure how tall lamb chops is but I think he is taller than you and he said in one of his videos that for someone taller this might be an issue. Im 6 feet and 6 inches and it is really bad on the newer GT that you are getting. I will look up those lower pegs you were mentioning. Thank you for the tip 👌

Not the 1290 GT configuration. It is reliable with the 1290 engine, which is one of the best motorcycle engines ever made - period. I talk from experience too. My 1290 GT from 2018 has 70 tkm on the clock, still going strong and just following the regular service intervals every 15 tkms ;-)

@@ferociousfrankie I have the 1st. generation GT. The only electronic issue I have had was a drained battery during cold start, when it was freezing. I changed the battery this season and it starts again. The two cylinders are big and require the battery to be in top condition after a freezing cold night..😆

I’ve read the same even on the forum. A friend blew his engine on a 20 or 21 naked. They replaced it and he sold it. That’s what has kept me away but this bike has always had my interest.
