Good video. I'm a transporter too, shutting down this coming week to change the transmission fluid and filters and see what the price of diesel does. Oh and the EGR. My truck decided to EGR delete all on it's own 🤣 The check engine light bugs me though.

Thanks for the video. Can you tell me how much oil has to go in the transmission after this procedure?
@homegrowncountryhomeplace11 ай бұрын
This really depends how much drains out. The longer the filters are off, the more it wants to drain out. It's a little different every time. Between 8 and 9 quarts the best I remember. Hope this helps. Have a Blessed Day Friend! Justin
@tintdr Жыл бұрын
And did you swap out the plastic filter threads for the metal one that comes with the ATS bypass for your transmission screw on filter?
@homegrowncountryhomeplace Жыл бұрын
I never have. The plastic threads I couldn't remove and didn't want to break it and be without a filter. So my thinking is that as long as the fluid doesn't get crazy hot, then it shouldn't be a problem. None of mine have looked bad or cracked when i have replaced the filters. Wouldn't hurt to replace it though if the plastic one comes out. Have a Blessed Day Friend! Justin

Awesome video. Wondeing how much fluid it takes. Doing same as what you did so not a flush but a change. Just not sure how much fluid i need to buy
@homegrowncountryhomeplace Жыл бұрын
I use between 8 and 10 quarts. I tell you that because the more you let it drain before putting the new filters on, the more fluid it will take. Because the fluid will keep draining for a while. Hope this helps. Have a Blessed Day Friend. Justin

I have a 2017 RAM 2500 Cummins with the 68rfe transmission. I have a question. It looks like my pan is sealed with RTV silicone. Was yours sealed with RTV too and then you added the rubber pan gasket later? Or did yours come with the gasket? Thanks!
@homegrowncountryhomeplace10 ай бұрын
Best I remember it was a gasket on it. Most filter kits have a gasket and it is easier to just use the gasket that it comes with. Now mechanics will sometime use silicone because it is universal and it works just fine as long as your pan is flat. Either will be fine. Have a Blessed Day Friend! Justin

I forgot to ask you after your finished do you do what is called quick learn for the transmission.
@homegrowncountryhomeplace2 жыл бұрын
I don't do anything but crank it up and run it through the gears. I then drive it to get the trans up to temp to do my final fluid level check. Never any problems. Hope this helps. Have a Blessed Day Friend. Justin

Thanks bud, I’ve got the same transmission in my 2016 3500 ram. I’ve been told that there could be times when you change this fluid it could cause the transmission to act up because they are so sensitive. Mine just hit 100,000 and I’ve never done it but I want to. Your thought. By the way I even had a dodge dealer tell me this.
@homegrowncountryhomeplace2 жыл бұрын
Nathan there is times when the transmission fluid gets dirty and there is varnish in the transmission and new fluid can clean the inside of transmission and cause some problems. Now if it is regularly changed 50 to 70,000 miles, then I see no problem. I can't remember off hand when they recommend to change it on these. I do mine 60 to 70,000 and I have 209,000 and no problem. If your fluid is still red and has not turned brown looking or most of the miles has been highway miles, then I would probably do the fluid filter and fluid myself. But it is always a chance something could start acting up. It is best to change any trans fluid before 100,000. So it's tough to say. To me it depends on fluid color. Hope this helps. Have a Blessed Evening Friend. Justin

@@homegrowncountryhomeplace Justin thanks, I do pull my 5th wheel about 5000 miles a year also I forgot to tell you. Maybe in my case I should let the dealer change it since I do have 100,000 already just in case it throws codes. I know it’s not hard, that’s not my issue.

I went 150k on my 08 Duramax Allison bout 10 years ago, was at the dealer for some work and I requested a Tranny service/flush They told me that the fluid would have particles in it and if I put clean fluid in it it could make the Tranny slip 💁🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ That truck now has 375k miles, gets the shit driven outa it and tows often lol never changed the fluid once but fo the spin on filter once in a while, Now that my 18 ram Cummins has 150k in it now never changed t fluid I’m worried if I do it’s gona be the kiss of death lol

How many miles did you have on the transmission before you installed the ATS coolant bypass valve?
@homegrowncountryhomeplace Жыл бұрын
I installed it around 75,000 best I remember. Nothing wrong with the OE, just didn't want to have any problems with it. Have a Blessed Day Friend! Justin

Hello Friend, Great Video. I enjoyed it because I own a 2021 2500 Ram Big Horn 6.7l Cummins with a 68RFE Tranny like you have. I was interested in doing exactly what you did and being that I've never done this before this video was very handy for me. I wanted to ask if you changed your stock thermal bypass? ATS Diesel Performance sells them for your transmission and I was wondering if that is what I think I saw on your truck. Those stock thermal bypass for the 68RFE tend to be faulty. If you did do you have an install video on it? Again thank you sir! You helped me.
@homegrowncountryhomeplace2 жыл бұрын
Hello Max, I did replace mine and it makes the trans. run a lot cooler. I didn't do a video on it but it is really easy to install. I think ATS may have a video on line on KZfaq showing the install. Appreciate you watching and happy you found it helpful. Have a Blessed Day Friend! Justin

@homegrowncountryhomeplace2 жыл бұрын
@@maxgarcia9512 I use the Baldwin kit #20000 and I order mine from Amazon. This kit is for a 4x4 truck and not the 2WD. You need to verify if this is the same filter for your 2021 Ram. I believe it is the same for the 2021 if yours is a 4WD. Hope this helps.

How’s that rubber pan gasket hold up from Baldwin? Does it leak at all?
@homegrowncountryhomeplace2 жыл бұрын
They hold up good short term. Never leaked and torqued at 105 inch pounds. I change mine every 60,000 miles which takes only about 8 to 9 months. So over a couple of years I am not sure. Hope this helps. Have a Blessed Day Friend. Justin

Can you post the size of the bolts and tools used to do this?
@homegrowncountryhomeplace Жыл бұрын
I believe the pan bolts were 8MM and the filter torx bolt size I can't remember. 1/4" ratchet and extension and socket set and torx bit set should be all you need. Maybe a small oil filter wrench to remove the spin on filter. Hope this helps. Have a Blessed Day Friend! Justin

If you filter that fluid really good. You could blend it with diesel fuel and put it in your fuel tank.

I literally came to see the fill procedure with the transmission fluid but you didn’t show that part. Lol
@homegrowncountryhomeplace Жыл бұрын
Hello friend, I believe I put in 7.5 to 8 Qts of ATF4 mopar fluid. You check the transmission fluid level when it has warmed up and be sure to check it in neutral with engine running, level, parking brake on and wheels chocked for safety. Shift through all the gears to circulate the fluid and add until fluid level is correct. Being sure to check it in neutral and engine running. Hope this helps! Have a Blessed Day and thanks for watching. Justin
@freddybob807 Жыл бұрын
@@homegrowncountryhomeplace Hi, thanks for your reply. It's been 2 days since I've changed fluids and seems like I still am having trouble getting this right as its not very clear to me. Do I not check the level or fill at all while the engine is off? Because whenever I attempt to check and fill with the engine running and in neutral the fluid is all over the dipstick and I feel like the reading is not correct. In addition, when adding fluid it ends up just running down the fill hose for a while and gets all over the dipstick if I try to put it in and check.
@homegrowncountryhomeplace Жыл бұрын
So you want your engine running and in neutral. You have to wait a little before putting your dipstick back in after adding fluid. Keep wiping the dipstick clean and re-insert until you get a clear reading. Hope this helps. Let me know if this works.
@freddybob807 Жыл бұрын
So with the engine off and cold, the fluid is between the two marks on the bottom and the two on the top. So I think there may be too much oil in there now!?!? Can the level be checked with the engine off or only while running and in neutral? This is so confusing to me.
@homegrowncountryhomeplace Жыл бұрын
Needs checked in neutral with engine running. You should get a clear reading if its been sitting for a while. Fluid level should be between cold and hot holes on dipstick. Hope this helps.
@maxgarcia70562 жыл бұрын
It's too bad Dodge did not have a drain plug on the pan....people pay $60000 plus for a 4x4 diesel and no drain plug on the tranny pan. How stupid is that? I changed mine out to an ATS Transmission Pan and I brought my oil temp down from 168°F to 128°F. It takes 5 more qrts oil ATF4 fluid. But since I tow a 5th wheel well worth bring temp down. Plus I now have a drain plug that also acts as the magnet.
@homegrowncountryhomeplace2 жыл бұрын
I bought a PPE trans. pan but have not installed it yet. I also replaced the thermo block with an ATS and it dropped my trans temp a lot too! That is the only reason I haven't put my pan on yet. But I intend too before to long. Right now it runs as low as 109 degree towing in cold temps out West. Have a Blessed Evening Friend! Justin

No drain plug forces you to drop pan a service filters. Plus now you can clean magnet. Avareage people will always take the easiest path.

Love your video. In depth and step by step. I saw a message about "relearning" the transmission. I change the transmission fluid in my 2019 Ram 4500 CC (aisin). After refilling I run through the gears and the CEL comes on. I use my scan tool...clear the code and it shifts like normal. When you shift through gears does yours throw a code as well?
@homegrowncountryhomeplace Жыл бұрын
Appreciate it. Mine has never throwed any codes after the filter and fluid change. Mine is a 68RFE so that might be the reason. But I don't know why the Asin would do that to be honest. Main thing is your able to clear the code. Have a Blessed Day Friend. Justin
