@ecuasian197 жыл бұрын
The U.S Nationals was ok, but by far the Russians are clearly dominating at this particular time. The highest score recorded in short program this year at the US Nationals was 72 points. Russians were getting in the middle to upper, if not the 80 point mark. The US ladies have a lot of work to do, by no means the US ladies are out of the game, but the Russian Nationals gave us a lot of flawless programs. None of the US ladies gave flawless programs. I'm an American and obviously rooting for our girls, but I have to be realistic in my opinion from what we have been seeing this season.

I sure hope so. The Ladies need someone to do for then what Chan did for the mans in 2011. It makes no sense that the guys are now doing every kind of quad and the girls cannot do a 3A.

I completely agree. The ladies are doing the same jumps that Tara lipinski was doing nearly 20 years ago when she won Olympic gold. It's like there's been no progress in ladies jumping at all. Someone needs to push the limits
@MrReed3147 жыл бұрын
xevie37x It is only now beginning. But for decades ladies were expected to be nothing more than ice-princesses with minimal jumps and long spirals. Realistically, from a tech perspective, pretty much all of the 10 could have matched yuna's Oly tech score, she only did one TT, afterall.
@zyxcba31557 жыл бұрын
Honestly barring injury or bad transition to the senior level, I think Zagitovas going to beat Medvedeva in South Korea next winter (also assuming nothing happens to Medvedeva). Alina already has a higher technical score, and with the judges for whatever reason deciding that anyone who's Russian deserves 8 extra points for components, she's only going to climb in that category as well. The only thing about Zagitova is that her technique is really weird, and won't do her any favors when she hits a growth spurt, like what happened to Tutkamysheva and Lipnitskaya, and what's currently happening to Radionova. She should be safe for the Winter Olympics, but once the Olympics are over, Zagitovas going to have a tough time if I'm right about her technique.
@ileanaguerra87147 жыл бұрын
Her TES is higher of course, she left the most important jumps later in the program, has a 3L3Loo combo, did a 3flip and a Lutz with both arms over, not satisfied with this she did a 3flip with both arms over and 2TL2TL with one arm over I mean this girl is awesome, but we still dont know if she will be consistent specially when she grows, Evgenia has already demonstrated she is a powerhouse even without the 3L3T combo, I dont think she needs it anyway, she flutz so dont think she needs to add it, these girls need to step up their game constantly, cant wait for Korea.

@haiyah67 жыл бұрын
the russians are pushing these young girls to compete as high as possible around the olympics before their growth spurts kick in and screws up their training. leonova, tuktamysheva, radionova, lipnitskaia- all these awesome russian skaters pretty much had 2-3 seasons under their belts before growth spurts hemped their training n the russian federation threw them away. and now even pogorilaya may be in the throw away bucket
@Keepinitreal557 жыл бұрын
haiyah6 that's not just Russians, it's athletics in general. Any sport that's so physically taxing has quick expiration. Gymnasts retire by 20 years old for a reason. Has nothing to do with being "disposed", but just not being able to compete on the same level anymore with age.
@MsJubjubbird7 жыл бұрын
Medvedeva isn't fully grown. Height wise yes but she hasn't filled out much. A lot of the girls hit puberty late in these kinds of sports due to malnutrition. It's not uncommon for girls in these kinds of sports to have their first menses at 18 or 19. Medvedeva will be replaced by Zagitova next year and I won't be surprised if Medvedeva starts looking for a new coach after that. Eteri tends to put one skater on a pedestal and Zagitova is ahead of her. Plus the judges will eat up the 3L+3Lo and double tano. Zagitova will be replaced by someone else in a couple of years. Russian skaters do tend to have short self lives, even for figure skating. Most skaters start to fade in their early to mid 20s but the Russians fade in their teens. Part of it is because in Russia they teach the kids to jump from very early on and teach the figures later, so they lack the foundations for the good technique that come with teaching figures that will help them get through aerodynamic changes of puberty. Psychologically I think these girls also change when they start growing up. Russian sports training is very prescriptive and these kids are becoming autonomous adults.
@Keepinitreal557 жыл бұрын
MsJubjubbird I think Medvedeva is naturally thin, so I don't think there will be much "filling out" for her, she's always been stick skinny since she was a kid. It's completely normal for skaters to be replaced by younger better ones. It happens more so in Russia because there's just so much talent emerging every year. Other countries don't have that. And frankly, Medvedeva already achieved success that few skaters ever did in their lifetime, even if she gets replaced in near future, she can be proud of what she's achieved. So there's no way of looking down on it, as if there's something wrong with them. As if you're hoping that they fail. They're all so strong and amazing. I think Eteri loves all of her students equally. What happened with Lipnitskaya was more of a conflict in personalities, and Lipnitskaya's mom played a part too.

Все, кто плачут про рост компонентов у Алины за год, просто лицемерят.
