2017 Southeast Old Threshers' Reunion & Handy Dandy Railroad

Over the week before Independence Day 2017, the Denton Farmpark hosted the 47th annual Southeast Old Threshers' Reunion. I've been wanting to go to this event for several years and am excited to have finally been. The Farmpark is surrounded by the 1.5 mile Handy Dandy Railroad, which operates large 0-4-0 no. 9, built in 1942. Thanks to the locomotive crew for letting me ride in the cab with them. Near the station, demonstrations are held of an Erie Type B steam shovel and crane, built in 1926 and 1922 respectively. To the Northeast, a sawmill has been built powered by a Frick portable steam engine. Also onsite was a steam-powered Threshing machine, an exhibit building featuring an old printing press and Corliss engine, a cotton gin powered by horses on a treadmill, and cheap helicopter tours. And I didn't get to see even half of the events and displays. I hope to be able to return for the 2018 Threshers' Reunion!

Actually The Polar Express' whistle is from Sierra Railway no 3's Lima 5 chime whistle it was also in Back To The Future Part 3 and I should know because I've seen both movies.

Such a great video! I have been attending for years and thoroughly enjoy all that the farm park has to offer. I hope it stays open for generations to come so that the ways of life that this country was built on is not forgotten.

It's a neat little operation, unfortunately they only run a handful of times each year and only diesel except during the Reunion. Certainly worth a visit though!

Funny you should mention that, because the whistle on #9 I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) is an New York Central 5 chime.

Denton Farmpark in Denton, North Carolina. The steam engine only runs during the Thresher's Reunion the week of July 4.

It surrounds the Denton Farmpark southeast of Denton, North Carolina. The park & railroad are only open during special events throughout the year and they only run steam during the summer Threshers' Reunion.

Actually it is a Southern Railway 5 chime whistle. The Polar Express whistle is based on a Great Northern 5 chime.
