After a long wait, the all-new Volkswagen Passat has finally been launched here in India, and Gavin D'Souza has been out driving it in Rajasthan. It may be understated, but it packs in a strong engine and a lot of high-tech equipment. Is that enough to let it thrive in a price bracket dominated by SUVs?

I can see both Toyota & Honda struggling to get the front design of their cars right.But Volkswagen did a wonderful design in Passat!

It's a design masterpiece. Me being an interior designer, understand lines and form. Every section of the car is carefully designed. Even in the interior, the use of clean lines is very impressive. Another good example of clean lines is Rolls Royce. Use of clean lines shows the design style to be minimalistic. In the crowd of so many curve and fluidic design car. This car looks much better.

A cool fact about the Passat: It used to be offered with a W8 engine as an option, but such a rare and unique engine meant it didn't sell in huge numbers. Also, there's another VW with a unique engine, the Touraug (I hope I said that right) offered a 5.0L V10 TDi power plant which can pull like gravity.

I loved the elegant wide flat stance of Passat with its headlights stretched on the sides. Calling it understated is a bit overstated. Waiting for PD.

Fantastic car, After owning it, 2018 highline model given immense satisfaction & pleasure driving. The pick up is awesome, never felt driving 2lit 2100kg Tdi. Diesel engine is also not noisy. Pls touch and feel the car,pictures and videos doesn't give real feelings.

Really man. The passat is worth of keeping and it will not age. Brought it last month home and its been a fabulous experience from day 1. The audio system is nice, it makes me feel so good😍. Such big sunroof and that massage function. Diesel engine feels like a petrol. And what a fantastic mileage this engine gives. I just love this car. Totally worth the money spent and I will keep it the rest of my life with me. I purchased higlhline conncet variant.

Does anyone have any idea about its thigh support of the rear seat. I'm thinking about buying it for myself. But, sometimes I'll have to take my mother. She has back bone, shoulder bone, neck and other orthopaedic issues. issues. So, I just want her to sit comfortably in the rear seat.which car would be best for such purpose.

Passat back in 2013 was a masterpiece. Now the competition is too tough. I dont think it will sell good. Look at Tucson, Superb..... these cars are just mind blowing

I have a vw vento TDI and I never feel the lack of grip even while taking highway curves upwards of 150kmph. Mind it I am running stock 185/70 R14. I expect Passat to be atleast twice better at handling. I don't know what more you need.

@ROHAN AGARWAL I test drove superb, Octavia, Passat and quiet few cars before I chose Passat for myself and for one simple reason, ride quality. I might be getting less kit than other two but who cares? If u want value for money go for poor men’s Skoda and if u want a badge with quality product and ride go for Passat.

I love the passat for what it is not its looks and looks for me is a classy and means business but only that you get heated seats 😅 y'all know how hot it's in India will we ever use it only that was a slightly bad but OK cause heat is relaxing sometimes in your car in some situations and massage in seats better grab the handle 😉

Sivanandhan Mani No problem with gear box. You shouldn't drive in neutral. It will damage the clutch. Unlike torque converter, it uses two clutches.

Sivanandhan Mani Reliability issues were with DQ200 gearbox which had dry clutch unit. Now the DSG is upgraded to wet clutch unit. So no reliability issues now.

Interior is better than any ultra premium sedan , atleast from where I'm seeing it , Only if it could be , as bulletproof as maruti or even honda for that matter , I do have money for their entry hatchback , but I dont have the guts to buy it , Hopefully one day I'll have ludacris money then maybe 😆

I was driving towards Moradabad (UP) few days back, my car stopped suddenly, I stopped the car and wait for 10 minutes, again I started the car but it did not start. I took the car to Volkswagen authorized service center atWolgswagen Moradabad, they had no clue what has happened they kept on saying that they are checking, after two days they are saying head is broken and pistons are damaged due to overheating. They were clueless and opened my car parts completely, and charged me heavily for just inspecting. Now my question is how come this has happened without any warning light. This is a premium hatchback and I expect it to have this basic feature of overheating warning which is present in cars worth half of polo’s price. It’s surprising that a moder engine can self destruct with ZERO warning, I bought this car because of the (German) engine only.
