We take the 2017 Yamaha YZ250X out for some really tight, really steep, technical single track to see how she does. Yes, it makes you work for things, but its certainly capable.

@relentless I have a 2017 yz250x and had about 40 to 50 hours on it. Just did a top end kit just because. It didn't need it but I want to keep this for a long time as well so I figured that it would be a good time to do it.

Matthew Hayden nice. I hear people making it to 100 hours before rebuild and saying everything still looks fine. Not really a risk worth taking for me being how easy and cheap it is to do a top end. I’ll probably do my first one around 50-75 hours. Only have 8 hours on it right now tho lol finally got it properly jetted , so rich from factory o

Fellow Utahn here, enjoy your vids very much. I do a lot of mountain and desert trail riding on my 2015 YZ250F. Haven't done much single track, looks fun. Hi Kyle. First, let me saw how much I enjoy your channel and insight into different bikes. Please, keep the videos coming!I think this video highlights the reason most of the hard enduro pro riders are on 300's and most racers are on the 250's. It seems the yzx250 is the bike to have anywhere other than first gear billy-goat trails.

looks like alot more work to keep it going in the the tight stuff vs the 300s. One of the things I love about my Beta is that low end power. Absolutely awesome. That YZ still looks like alot of fun though especially on a little more open flowing trail. Thanks for another great video.

I mostly ride that kind of terrain. Sounds like for me, this Yamaha would need a flywheel, smaller sprocket in the front/bigger in the back, aftermarket hydraulic clutch, hand guards, electric start, bigger fuel tank and a skid plate........ Great videos guys!!

On the yz250's you can swap in a 1st or 1,2 or 1,5 or 5 th or 1,2,3 or all of the gears from a 1999 wr400 to get better ratios for your type of riding.

Your Videos have me damn close to pulling the trigger on one of these. They cost way less than a KTM in Canada.(Probably about $3000 cdn less than a 300 XC) I can hear that it wants a smaller front sprocket. Yamaha will sell a lot of these thanks to your Videos.

That's a gnarly trail, good riding Kyle! Bike seems very light, nimble and the motor is obviously proven. I'm too spoiled with the hydraulic clutch and e-start now to give it up, also need a headlight and tail in order to be legal in my area as well. I think yamaha has some work to swing more buyer their way.

Sounds like you're running stock gearing on this X? Im running 13/51 on mine. Im sure this video serves no justice on the tight climbing that you're doing but it doesn't seem that i have to burn my clutch that much when I'm challenged with a slow technical climb. Love this bike though. Great job on your videos too.

So how does this bike compare to the ktm 250 xc or xcw? Im currently riding a 350 xcfw six days with a rekluse. I love the bike but had to rebuild top end at 40 hrs (Dirt infiltration they said) and thinking about a getting a two stroke.
@chadwheeler854
@chadwheeler854 2 жыл бұрын
I really think a weighted flywheel and a sprocket change will make a massive difference. Also a Rekluse clutch would make this bike an incredible technical terrain machine. With the Rekluse you wouldn't be too phased about the electric start, because the clutch will disengage before the motor flames out/stalls. This is still a great value for money bike!

Any yz450fx reviews? I know alot of people steer away from the 450s for trail riding. Do I need the power? Not always, but im happy when its there. Ive been looking at a few 300s but feel quite comfortable on my 06 yz450. Geared down it feels a bit short on the top end, electric start would be a plus on tech terrain. Thanks again!

Playing with the gearing would help keep it in the sweet spot. It's too tall like it is for that terrain. I always liked to ride my YZ250 on tight single track just under the pipe, where with a little throttle or clutch, it would get on the pipe and go.

This type of single track is what I usually find myself on in Southeast, but it's usually more wet. I would love to know how you think the YZ250FX would have done with this type of riding? Would a 250FX offer any advantages (or disadvantages) over the 2-stroke 250X?
@DirtBikeChannel
@DirtBikeChannel 7 жыл бұрын
Having owned both the 4 stroke and the 2 stroke version of this bike in the past year, I can tell you that there isn't a situation under the sun in which I'd rather ride the 4 stroke version. This particular two stroke is simply amazing to me. The 2 stroke option is TWICE as fun to me and the YZ250FX. The YZ250FX is a good bike, but the YZ250X is amazing.

Hey Kyle,I've been watching your videos on your Yz250x. I myself have a 2016 Yz250x. First off man I would like to say I to absolutely love the bike. I've owned 450's and use to race them in Moto and In GNCC works races. I will say I have full confidence in this bike for GNCC style races. I just sold my other 450 the mother day. So for the YZ250x I have put some parts on the bike in stages to see the changes it has made so far a FMF Gnarly Pipe then a FMF turbine 2 silencer than a 13oz Fly wheel. Then went to a 13 counter sprocket for a shorter first gear. The pipe I will say definitely gave me the low end grunt that it needed to pull the gears but only when I added the silencer and a re-jet it came alive on the low end. And the Fly wheel helped carry out the the grunt throughout the powerband and it still had snap. And it won't stall unless you come to a complete stop without grabbing the clutch. And your not on the clutch all the time. Fly wheel was $100, pipe was $225 and silencer was $140. It totally changed the bike. Hope that helps man. I also am interested in getting that 300 XC

Brandon Scott any reason you did front sprocket vs rear? Did you ride it much stock? I put on Gnarly, TC 2 and 8oz FWW. Thinking about going up 2 in the rear. What a great bike! Braaap
@brandonscott2906
@brandonscott2906 7 жыл бұрын
I did the 13 counter sprocket because it's the same effect as adding 2 teeth in the rear and they are cheaper than the rear sprockets. I go back and forth with the 13 and 14. The 13 takes a lot of high speed away but is amazing in tight single track with first hear. You can use the 14 with the running the 13oz flywheel in most tight rocky situations and still have that super tall 5th gear. But it has to be with a 13oz or greater. Because I have tried a 11oz and it won't have the same effect and it will still stall Easy.

You ever thought about putting a righteous stunt clutch on the 250x? It will make the pull easier by giving you more leverage on the clutch cable. You can one finger those things. I know one of your biggest complaints about the 250x is that the clutch isn’t hydraulic. Just a thought. I use one on my Yamaha. Larger rear sprocket maybe? That might make this bike as capable as your ktm xcw 250

Oscar Martinez it might be a little tall honestly but power could be manageable for you as long as you respect the machine and what your doing. Go to a dealer and just sit on a few to see what feels like a good match and if you have to buy used just go based off of what seems like a good fit off of testing bikes at the dealer. In my opinion, coming from an xr100 I would look at a trail based 250 like a WR250F, crf250x, or any of the ktm 250 trail bikes. They will have plenty of power to satisfy for years to come. If you don't ride track, then don't get a track bike. The suspension alone will fight you everywhere you go. Hope that helps

Compared to the European 2’s, the Yammie definitely seems like it’d rather be screaming across the desert. I wish they’d take this platform and build a proper single track enduro bike.

if Yamaha would adjust the gear ration, bigger fuel tank and put a starter on this bike, people might consider this over the KTM. I love my KTM 300xc but would really like to give this bike a try. thanks again

I notice your YZ does the same as my 13' with the throttle control at low/mid through the rocky technical stuff. That jumpy throttle makes traction control difficult and even throws me off balance occasionally. Have you checked out the G2 throttle system? Might help make clutch work a little easier as well. www.g2ergo.com/store/g2-throttle-cam-system/

i rode a lot of tight stuff on yz125 2007. geared it way down to make up for the lack of torque and leaned out the jetting for my sea level southern ohio.super fun bike for shorter rides ie 45miles. when ridden at area dual sport events of 100mile plus with road sections, flat wore me down with keeping it on the power curve, intake and exhaust noise despite an fmf quiet silencer.....in the hills, the 125 takes a lot of concentration not to get caught out on suprise up hills.

do you think a crf150r is a good bike for enduro, i have one and i can lug that thing in 5th gear goin literally 5 mph up a hill with no stabbing of the clutch. it aslo is really nice for the tunable suspension and i have it on fairly soft. the bike is stock except for handgaurds and is the expert which is for bigger riders. can you recommend me to any parts that could help me on my journy to be as good as you are, im 12

So I took your advice and piped my bike with the Pro Circuit Platinum 2! Haven't been out on it yet but looking forward to this weekend. I ride a 2016 YZ 250X and have a question I am hoping you can answer for me... Would it help to add a larger sprocket to get some more low end tractorability? And is changing the rear sprocket without changing the front advisable?
@enduronorthnz6437
@enduronorthnz6437 7 жыл бұрын
250x does not need a pipe , 13t front sprocket and 9oz fly wheel weight and its fine . i have heaps of videos in the hardest terrain we have and its perfect
@mattjohnson1293
@mattjohnson1293 7 жыл бұрын
Thank, I like the pipe. I will drop down to a 13 tooth sprocket and see how that goes.I believe it is a 14 T stock?
@enduronorthnz6437
@enduronorthnz6437 7 жыл бұрын
its a big misconception that things need to be changed in the exhaust department , the fly weight did not do much just allowes for a smoother idle not likley to rop off as sudden and slightly better way down low . and the 13t sprocket allows a bit less clutch slip , yes 14 is stock
@mattjohnson1293

Craig Edwards it honestly has much more then it appears... I feel like he is a bit used to the 300's as well and doesn't want to rev it that extra bit to find the meat of the power and not stall it... but it does look to be some steep terrain as well. give my new 250x single track vid a watch :)

Andrew Puetz. It depends on where you ride. I'm in So. Utah, changing to 52t sprocket is great for the rocky steep technical trails around here. Although I did find that third gear is perfect for steep sand dunes. Changing to 52 tooth sprocket plays the bikes torque curve perfectly. Many 450's and other 2T's out climbed by the X.. This bike is not the fastest I've owned, but it will hold 3rd gear with 52t sprocket on the steepest dunes without bogging. 2nd gear is perfect for most technical trails, 1st gear is a stump puller.. I have rarely flamed out in 1st gear. The only caveat is loss of top end speed. 5th gear with stock sprocket was too tall and did not work well for me until I changed to 52t sprocket. Definitely worth trying.

This bike is at the end of it's life cycle due to Euro 4 regulations. The long first gear is a motocross type of gearing, not enduro. The Husqvarna/KTM TPI fuel injected two strokes are the state of the art. Super light hydraulic clutch, hydraulic Brembo brakes, braided stainless lines, electric start, and you put the same fuel in your tank as the four strokes. This is the Blackberry phone of today. A good value, maybe, but not likely to be around for much longer.

Sick and tired of these YZ250x videos saying they do not have the low end grunt like most 2 stroke and then say the dumbest shit i ever heard. Not like a 300! Well no shit it is 50cc’s smaller. It the KTM Beta Gas Gas Husqvarna are so dam good stop comparing 300cc’s to 250’ccs. All the other have a 250’cc bike and it it crickets comparing them to a YZ250. I know why. Because the YZ will kill them.
