The 2018 Acura RDX is the end of an era for this popular compact premium crossover. With room for 5-passengers, this small SUV has bulletproof technology under the hood from a 3.5L V6 engine and proven 6-speed automatic transmission. There is a new RDX coming sometime next year and it will likely have a smaller turbocharged engine and a 9 or 10-speed automatic. This 2018 RDX premium utility represents the last of this reliable design.
The RDX is built off the Honda CR-V platform but differs in many ways fom different power plant to a more upscale interior. Unlike the CR-V, the RDX does not yet have android auto or apple car play or come standard with advanced safety feature.
Competitors to the all-new Acura RDX include the Volvo XC60 premium crossover, i the BMW X3, Mercedes GLC, Audi Q5, Lexus NX, Jaguar F-Pace, Infiniti QX50, the Cadillac XT5, Porsche Macan and the Lincoln MKC.

Down in Southern California I bought one and absolutely luv it. Just went to Utah skiing, loaded this baby up with 2 kids, ski gear in Thule box on top, drove 1000 miles, comfortable and great economy. I did use chains up in the hills, but any car without winter tires wouldn't be allowed up the slopes. So worked just fine for me.

I just traded my 2014 CRV for a 2018 RDX base model with AWD. One of the last AWD in Texas. I paid less than $36,000 for it . Sorry about that Canadians. It came with everything I wanted that the CRV didn't have: Comfortable leather like heated power driver and passenger seats, center arm rest instead of the van like skinny ones in CRV, moon roof, LED lights all around, 18" wheels, speed sensing steering, push button start, more comfortable ride, less interior noise, more importantly: reliable 279 HP V-6 engine and 6 speed trans.

(US poster here): I bought a 2018 Certified Pre-Owned (tech pkg) RDX in 2020 for $28K with 17K miles on it. I got the '18 for the reasons that you mentioned in your review: the V6 engine, 6 speed transmission and regular sunroof. The tech on it is a bit behind other automakers (like Honda ALWAYS is) but that didn't bother me. We've taken it on short and long trips and it's a nice highway vehicle. I wanted to avoid the newer model's 4 cylinder turbo, the touch pad screen controller, the pano sunroof (which I hate) and the stuck-on info screen on top of the dash. While I like the exterior styling of the 2019 and newer model better, the advantages of the 2018 model sold me.

SHitty-AWD?
@elusivellama
@elusivellama 6 жыл бұрын
The system on the RDX is not SH-AWD where the system has two clutch packs on the rear axle to distribute power between each rear wheel. The RDX's AWD system is the same as on the regular Hondas where it is FWD most of the time until AWD is needed, then a clutch pack or something closes up and distributes some power from the front to the rear wheels. It is nowhere near as good as true SH-AWD.

Got this down to 30k (380/month Zero down) at the dealer because of a friend (never trust the sales people and ask all the questions if you don't have an "in"). Realistically, it feels a lot nicer than my 2016 CRV (traded-in)... is it a complete upgrade? Not really, unless you're looking for more power. I would've gotten a 2018 CRV, but there were no lease specials... so monthly would've cost similar.

We have a '14 RDX. We got the base to avoid the dual screens but it didn't come with a powered boot or rear a/c vents but they changed that for the later years... but to keep things short and sweet just get the Lexus... I am surprised for the long term Acura customers we are, we never experienced problems with any Acura's besides this one... very disappointed, the nice things about this car though are the v6 but the transmission kind of ruins the smooth ride you expect, the rear seat room is absolutely enormous especially with the flat floor, and the steering is very nice and light for parking and long hours in traffic so if those things mean a lot to you then check it out... Also if you go to the right dealer you can get a huge(I mean huge) discount on the car, especially if you pay cash because there is no point in leasing this kind of car..

@Motormouth... 6 жыл бұрын
It depends on your personal situation. Leasing is just another way of buying. After the lease period you can decide to keep it or if your situation changes or you didn't like the car, then you can give it back. I call it the 3-year test drive.
@francismartinez6049
@francismartinez6049 6 жыл бұрын
neorick27 leasing is not "buying" its really renting. Leasing vehicles is actually the MOST expensive way of owning a car. You pay interest when you lease, and more interest when you re-finance. You'll never be able to build wealth if you keep leasing cars for the rest of your life- its just stupid. I personally only recommend leasing if you are interested in a European luxury car such as Mercedes and BMW etc. Those cars depreciate so much that you will actually save more money leasing then buying. Plus they are expensive to repair when they break down. If you looking into an RDX, get one that's 3 years old, and save some cash. The car will still have plenty of life left in it.
@neorick27

The RDX? 6 speed 279 silky smooth engine that does everything well. Why not get a CRV over an RDX? Thats like saying why dont you go to Outback and not Ruths Chris...yea youll save money, but it doesnt compare...thats the truth. If you want a toy breed get the CRV, if you want a beast that handles well get the RDX. Its that simple.

The new RDX seems to be even wider and longer which is ashame since I prefer a smaller suv. Also it should be noted how quiet the RDX is, it's even quieter than a Lexus NX.

I see people complaining about hondas slip and grip AWD system, well learn how to drive, don't rely on AWD, get proper premium winter tires in the cold season. AWD is only there to help you but not drive for you.

I didn't even know the RDX existed when I bought my 2014 CRV AWD. It took me a year to get used to how uncomfortable to drive it. I always thought why couldn't Honda comes up with a 200+HP engine and bigger better seats. May be that was the reason most CRV drivers were women. I also never liked the van type arm rest, my LX didn't even have one for the passenger. The stupid arm rest also tilted with the seat recline so my right arm was never horizontal. Then the new CRV came with a stupid turbo and CVT. I saw the 2019 RDX also came with a turbo. I guess Honda used the turbo to up the MPG to please the poor cheap skate prospective CRV owners. In addition, I never liked all that tech crap on the 2019 RDX, I had no patience or the touch for that stupid mouse just to turn on the radio. So I traded my CRV for a new bullet proof 2018 RDX AWD. It's only a base model, but equipped with everything I wanted: The ash and instrument are just like my CRV, V-6, 6 speed trans, comfortable heated power leather seats with full arm rest, heated mirrors, moon roof, better steering and brakes, LED lights all around, soft material everywhere, unlike the cheap hard plastic in CRV. Best of all, $6,000 discount off MSRP. I am now driving a luxury car, not a cheap gas pincher CRV. I can drive long distance without tiring, unlike the CRV where I had to raise my butt every few minutes. So what if I have to put premium gas, who cares about gas price on a $45,000+ car?

How has the rdx been so far? Still reliable?
@rampar77
@rampar77 Жыл бұрын
@@joepearlzz8504 I have 65,000 miles on my RDX and still ran like new. I followed all the mfg service in my local dealer. I changed the factory tires Michelin Premier to Defender at 13,000 miles and traction improved 100%. I have also drove in 4 inch snow in WA and UTAH with no problem. They are half worn after 52,000 miles. The original brakes are half worn. I have driven this RDX over 120 MPH and had no problem. I could not think of any car I wanted to buy today. Even the RX350 is now turbo with 2.5 engine.

CRV actually looks and rides better. Funny thing though, when I cross shopped the Accord, I ended up buying my wife the new TSX as I thought it was, you guessed it, better looking and handled better. Hearing the new Accord model may make me regret that decision but so far I do like the TSX. (Did I mention I hate the RDX)????

Shawn Meadows, Exactly! Why spend 50K when you can get the CRV touring for 30K. The CRV gets great reviews by motor trend, consumer reports, Edmunds ect. And it takes regular gas. Spacious interior as well and it's good looking too.

Acura's previous generations were better. I have a 2013 TL that on the inside is much nicer and upscale-feeling than the new cars. The new cars interior are a design mess. Mixed plastics everywhere, the God-awful dual screen setup. The new Hondas are actually much nicer inside. My dealer has loaned me both an ILX and the new TLX while my car was in for servicing and honestly, although the new TLX looks nice on the outside, it's not nearly as nice of a place to sit inside as my old TL. I really find these days that Acura just isn't offering any sort of value in the 'luxury' space as it really isn't all that luxurious; a loaded Honda feels nicer inside. I'd get a Civic before an ILX and an Accord before a TLX for sure. To me, Lexus is the only premium Japanese brand doing it right these days. Infiniti interiors are good quality but once again, have horrendously messy, dated-looking designs.
