I agree--he's a gentleman. I met him when the newly restored Jade Idol debuted (about 1980) at the Oakland Roadster Show. He generously let me sit in it.

Personally speaking, it was an eight way tie! Firm believer in the old adage, if you can't do it right, find someone who can. Awesome each & every one of these eight!

One of the first jobs I ever had was body work at a paint shop. There's not a lot of people who can do work on this level, no matter what you pay. It takes a real skill and tons of experience. For those knocking the owners for not doing it themselves, you have to realize, no one can compete on this level all on their own. You need masters in each aspect in order to put together the best, and owners are the ones with the vision and connections to make it happen.
@kingjames1586 Жыл бұрын
Bodywork is a skill that takes years to master & very few ever reach the level to create these beautiful masterpieces ✌🏼

Holy Heaven, the 57 Chevy is the absolutely big hammer. That is a very very fine car. Fantastic work men, this is the best example for that what people can make from older cars. The others are great, but this is my favorite. This is art, not car building. And they win this thing, a good day for me.

It's funny about the Ridler award--as a west coaster, we'd never heard of it before the www. It was all about the Oakland Roadster Show and the AMBR trophy. We still joke that the only "Riddler" we heard of was on Batman.

The moment she began her romanticized recollection about handing her father a wrench I knew it was a script. It sounds like she googled "what's cool" and just reiterated it here. Just like the orca-betties, fake.

I used to work with a guy who was a judge for this show. His specialty wasn't this category but the original stock. The level in which they verify parts and how they can tell by the smallest details what is original and what is not is unreal. He can look at an antenna and if the original has a little dimple in the base, that means is was supplied by the Cleveland shop and is between 1952 and 1954 for example. If it has a triangle mark then it came from Pittsburgh. No shit, that is the level these guys operate on. The only way you can get a 100 point car is to have bought it original, drove it straight into storage with all the paperwork and tags, then break it out 50 years later. He's only seen one 100 point car in his 30 years doing this. A 92-95 point car is rare. So if you do find that car that was put away and never driven, you'd have some serious bucks.

My two picks would have been the gold Camaro and a 56 Continental and not in any particular order I was surprised the 57 all those slick as snot was just a little to sedate on the outside yes it was heavily modified but that gold paint on that Camaro and the flake on the Continental was outstanding

So much for using chrome cabinet knobs to accent grilles. It’s cool to see stuff that costs more than an average house that’ll never drive on a public road. I’d love to go back in time before people used CNC and billet everything.

If you listen, not many car owners actually build a car/truck anymore, they farm it out to people with the talent. Personally, when that big MOPAR Plymouth lit up, that sound was awesome. Did not see any other Trailer Queens that come close. They are beauty but can and are there any that hit the streets, ever?

34 Ford pick owner,Lover of cars.Worked with her dad?? Had not seen the car until she picked it up today.Now that is a true hot rodder!!!!
@gorillacookies34516 жыл бұрын
Guess the 34 Ford pickup owner doesn't understand that you earn no praise or deserve any either when you pay someone else to design and build your ride. The truck is sweet but she may as well have said she bought it because that's pretty much what she did anyway.
@61Vibes6 жыл бұрын
The gal who owns the truck said she acquired the truck from family and wanted it restored. She wanted a blue truck with a tan interior, she wanted pouches for her phone on the door panels, and a hood. The truck came with a quick change rear end... in the bed..., clearly this truck will haul nothing butt ass. The interview of the gal with the 1934 ford contains more information than the sum of her words. There is an an unspoken duality to her story. This entire car show seems to have a creepy vibe that escapes explanation on a KZfaq comment. Did anyone in these interviews mention Nitrous Oxide? ...or do they let that go unspoken of while competing for the $10,000 Ridler Award? The Autorama appears to be a cult of like minded people to me. The Ridler Award is not the prize here.... something else is going on.
@Edison731006 жыл бұрын
I liked her story and her truck was very nice. She was a winner also.

This early. Older model continental is a very beautiful car and the 57 Chevy is a fine example of a tri 5 Chevy and shows some of the old classics can be updated and made into a beautiful custom and the 39 Ford sedan delivery and so is the 40 Ford coupe which both are fine examples of old school hotrods and and the 36 Pontiac is another example of an old school cruiser 😊😊😮😅😅❤😊
