2018 BMW X3 xDrive20d review: all the premium SUV you'll ever need?

The third-generation BMW X3 may look similar to its predecessor but is entirely overhauled inside and out. We drove the diesel-powered xDrive20d model everyone will buy (in Europe at least) and found it to be a great all-rounder. Yes, it's so good it makes you wonder whether a typical premium SUV customer would ever need anything more than an X3.

Great, practical, and good common sense review. Unlike other reviewers who pretend too much to be sports car professional drivers. I love that your review is more relatable to day to day drivers.

When I tested in various modes for 2 hours, both on highway and in traffic jams, I got 6.9 ltr consumption. It is little bit more, than I had on 3GT (6.4) with same engine.otherwise, car is really nice, although expensive, what makes me thinking about second hand car

318d and 320d are like a million times more common than 340 and m40 nonsense. Good stuff my man. Also 1.8 tonnes? Previous gen was 1.6tonnes, what happened?

Best in class.Thats why i order my already 20d Black saphire Luxury line with full options and Individual interior and rims 21 inch.Will arrived 15.01.2018

Nice my man but the x3 is too small for 21 inch rims, 20 inch would be much better for fuel consumption and comfort.

guess it depends on whether you want a more comfortable ride or look more boss, but again 21' is too big on this car size imo.

Before buy it i try with the 21 inch.It is really acceptable because the new X3 is bild on the same platform like 5 series.The weelbase is huge and with adaptive dampers is more than ok

Very good review. I think the 30D would be all the Premium SUV you need. The 2.0l probably isn't much more economical because it has to work harder in the near 2 ton car. I'd rather have the torque rich 3.0l.

Thank you! I agree with your point that the 3.0-liter turbo diesel adds driving fun and refinement without a big penalty regarding fuel efficiency, but in many markets engines with displacements over 2.0 liters are heavily taxed. That's why I believe the xDrive20d represents the ideal choice for most people.
