2018 Expedition Cup Holder Fix Part 1 (Console and Cup Holder Removal)

My first fix it video so, it's a little rough, the next one should be better. Because I'm new, this fix is divided up into a few videos. This video was filmed after I finished the fix, but I wanted to show how to remove the console. I did forget to film the removal of the cup holder from the console. You just need a T20 torx tool for that.
This is an 8 part video of short 2-3 minute clips. I don't have the means to edit and spice yet so feel free to fast forward as necessary.

Thank you for making this series of videos. The bottom just fell out of our cup holders and I was wondering how I was going to fix it. After watching the whole series I feel pretty confident that I can do it myself. You did a great job on these videos.

Thank you for showing us how to remove the council, that made it super easy. I drilled holes on all four corners of each cup right next to the mushroom plastic pins and inserted tie wraps, problem solved.

I didn’t think I would be able to do it. I tried before but I gave it another go watching carefully at what sections detached and what parts stayed together. I used a flat screw driver gently (around where your thumbs were) to detach it a little bit and it did! I was then able to detach it fully, with some wiggling. Thank you!

Same thing just happened to me. Ford quoted us $614 to repair…we’ve already ordered the pieces from them, but we be attempting to do it on our own. Thanks!

THANK YOU FOR THIS ENTIRE SERIES! BTW, think I'm going back to Toyota for my next vehicle. FORD wants $274.55 for the replacement part. I used regular JB Weld epoxy, and it is as good as, no, wait, better than new.

Has your Crome trim start peeling ? Mine has and been looking for videos or aftermarket trim to fix it but can’t find nothing

Mine is doing the same thing. I’m gonna take out the trip and trip it if it’s chrome. Then I’m going to wrap it with a chrome vinyl

Such an unbelievably poor design! Thank you so much for taking the time to explain this. For some reason I didn't think it would be this easy to re-assemble everything.. doesn't look bad at all!

Any suggestions on what to do w a 2021 ford F150? My cup hold tab also fell inside…

Oh man, bummer. I haven’t been in an f-150’s console, but I’d guess it’s pretty similar. Some guys like using epoxy to glue it back together. My favorite way is whatever works! I would definitely use an epoxy that will chemically bond with the plastic, not just on the plastic.

I would not relocate the key sensor as you will not be able to program a new key if needed in the future. If the cupholders fixed correctly, the key sensor hardly weighs anything, I don’t think it’ll be a problem.

I ended up replacing the fob module on the bottom of the cup holder for resale. Most of these failures are on the side that the module is on. Those “mushroom” rivets are way past capacity for the cup holder alone, let alone hold the module.

Couldn't see anything you did to remove the console. Camera angle was terrible lol. Couldn't see how you unhooked to take out the gear shift,cup holder.

I’m no pro, There’s nothing really special to unhook. I tried to narrate my way through the removal, I’ll let the camera crew know they need to do better. The rest just unplugs and unscrews.
