As a fan of mainly strats ! i think the Les Paul faded is kind of cool for people who don't like the traditional LP's . It seems to have a slightly slimmer neck , and the fret board is similar to a strat . Great for those who like the sound of the LP but not the feel of them .

I got recently second-hand Les Paul Classic Goldtop with p90s. It has great tone and no weight relief. The best bargain so far.

FYI... that 2018 Les Paul faded does not have mahogany neck, its got a maple neck with rosewood fingerboard. These were how the mid 70s les pauls were made, maple necks.

I think I learned something quite special about this year's Traditional, they seem to come with some type of 50s wiring, not a pcb electronics, which could make a difference to the tone.

Les Paul Faded has a maple neck, not mahogany, probably done for cost purposes. But I think it's the maple neck that makes the faded sound better than all the other Les Pauls Gibson offers. If you've tried one, you'll know what I mean. Way more punchy and note definition, and any negative side effects of using a maple neck (too much brightness, etc) is offset by the "weight relief"/partial body chambering (rounds out/warms up the tone), and vice versa.

Ben D I love my LP Faded. I bought a Traditional a couple of months ago as well and that is great too. The Faded is an incredible player. I play the Trad more, and keep considering selling the Faded, but then I play the Faded and I just can't. It's too good.

I'm really impressed with Gibson in the last year or two. I have always loved the Les Paul but their quality and playability has been questionable for a long time. My previous Les Paul ended up being sold in a fit of rage because no amount of fettling could get it playing right. I was adamant I was getting another and I was blown away by the playability of the newer ones. In particular, the Tribute and the Faded. I had pretty much decided on a Tribute, but I played a particular Faded that just talked to me and felt right at the last minute and that's what I bought. Sure, it's not as "pretty" or flash as my last one, but it sounds great, feels amazing, the stripped back looks are growing on me and it feels like it has some sort of magic that was missing in my last one. Also, all the 2017 and 2018 ones I have tried have been flawless. I just hope this obvious improvement in QC isn't too late.

I think center dot inlays on the Les Paul Faded look very out of place. I'd almost prefer no inlays at all to dots on a Les Paul and that's coming from someone who's a fan of Fenders and even PRS with dot inlays. Something about the Les Paul just needs trapezoid or block inlays. The Tribute looks awfully nice though.

Who cares if it has dot inlays? It's not as if you can see them while you're playing the damn thing. It gets boring reading comments like this on every video of the LP Faded, moaning about dot inlays. They're not that bad, I actually quite like the bourbon faded and for around £600 they're decent value for money and I'd sooner buy 1 of these than waste £1000 more on a Gibson.

@@JammyGit I can see them very well and feel they are more tasteful than mother of pearl. In the movie "Patton", when asked by a reporter if the grips on his army issued .45 were pearl, Patton answered that only a pimp would use pearl handles. lol. That's one of the reasons I sold my 1990 Bozeman Montana Gibson Hummingbird and bought a natural finished Martin D-18. The wood on an acoustic top is very importent and so is the amount of laquer put on top of it, a lot of us from the sixty's sanded the laquer off the tops.

Epiphone Tribute is a top guitar - has the US 57 Classic pickups. You will get a lot for your money if you go with the Tribute plus. Try it out, you will not regret it.

I have a tribute. Very good guitar that would be the way to go for Gibson guitars for under $ 1,000 to $ 2,000. Guitars for $ 4,000 that are also chambered are not solid body guitars for me anymore. A tribute with different pickups and colors would be the right way. If a Gibson seems too heavy then you should buy something else. A real '59 Les Paul should also have weighed over 8.8 lbs.

Why? You think it's going to snap from sitting there on the table? Get a grip dude. Millions of Les Pauls are sitting on tables right now in luthier shops. All of mine sit like that for string changes. Don't get up on the table and jump on it and you'll be just fine. I take it you're not a real experienced player, eh?

Been playin in bands since 89 and stop pretending you're not aware of the weak Gibson headstock evidence! I started seeing cracked and broken headstock's back in the 90's from guys in other bands. Then of course there's the multiple articles and vids out there..my favorite being a Scott Grove video here on KZfaq. Hell, there's even broken headstock t-shirts out there. Why do you have to use the word "cheap" on the Les Paul faded model? There is nothing "cheap" about it. Why not say less expensive? Here's the straight dope on the faded model and it's a better model for the reasons stated here: www.guitarvguitar.com/les-paul-faded-vs-studio.html The models reviewed all sounded exactly the same to me, beautiful. They say you lose the subtle nuances of your hearing when you are over 50 years old, maybe that's the reason. I just ordered a Les Paul faded cherry and after watching this video I'm glad I did. Yes, it doesn't have all of the fancy decorations, but other than that it is a true Gibson Les Paul made in the U.S.A. Maple vs. Mahogany top on an electric guitar shouldn't make much difference. The thin coat of laquer on the faded vs. the heavy coat on the "high end" models would cancel out any difference in their sound anyway. Just sayin.

Raised 'nibs' on the neck binding? Boo Hiss. Terrible design. Got these on my 2016 Gibson Flying V. It's currently on it's way back to Gibson Europe for the second time to try and get this sorted out. If the guitar you like has these raised 'nibs' I honestly would advise you to avoid it like the plague. The problem is, if you play guitar and I mean play the guitar, not strumming, any type of adventurous hammer on or pull off technique and your e string will catch between the fret edge and the raised plastic nib on the binding.

Andrew Codling not when the current product is itself full of shit. Gibson is currently a joke company. If you think all eras of Gibson production are equally valuable you are nuts. Hope you haven't bought one recently...

Hugh I havent bought one lately because of concerns of quality . If I pay over a grand for a guitar I expect it to be top quality. For that reason Id rather take a Fender or PRS
