Thanks Serban. I spoke with the yacht owners today before the Hanse Cup Adriatic race, they had the charter company change the halyard for a new one. From what I could see it seems to have worked. I think the main issue with many charter yachts is that most charterers do not care for lines and clutches when releasing halyards. Often I see them just banged open without first taking the tension onto the winch and pulling some through the clutch to let the teeth release. Causing very quick damage and of course this slipping. The other solution I have used is a double purchase halyard, the down side of this though is the mass of line you have to deal with after the hoist!

I've reviewed the bowsprit area again, after watching your video, and it appears to me that a bit of care should go a long way towards not damaging the bow.

You're welcome Serban. Effectively yes it is. Though in my opinion in this case, these yachts are built production for charter so a fail safe against this kind of treatment I think would be a smart idea.
