2018 Honda CR-V EX-L Door Speaker Installation: Step by step Uncut

Complete door speaker installation on a non-premium stereo system. The sound is WAY more accurate but the bass had to be turned way up after the install to compensate for the speaker change. The other doors are very similar. You'll figure it out. I know I said less than 10 min but in fairness it took 12 min. This install is uncut.
***NOTE: I had a connection issue after the install was complete where the sound would stop playing completely even though the music was still playing. The problem was found to be in the aftermarket connector. If you experience this, reseat the connectors or you may consider hard wiring the speaker. Though my connectors worked fine after I seat them a few times.

One of my speakers is blown in my 2016 Honda CRV, and my first thought was "Oh God, I'm gonna have to fork over a couple hundred bucks to get it replaced." I assumed getting to the speaker and removing the door would be extremely difficult - for context I'm the farthest thing from a car guy, I don't even change my own oil. After doing some research and watching your video I feel fairly confident in being able to pull this off, I may even replace all my 6 - 1/2" inch speakers! Thanks for the in-depth and straightforward video!!!!

At first you think it looks difficult or you think you probably break something when removing the door panel for the first time but it’s easy but I did have a little bit of trouble when I was getting access to my 2013 Silverado speakers

Those Original Speakers could be Neodymium magnet hence the small size. The new Speaker is Ferrite Magnet.

Hi, great video!! Appreciate your time and effort to put it up. What are the specs for the factory speaker, like RMS Watts, impedance, sensitivity. Can we use a 2ohm speaker. I believe you didn't add an external amp so the sound improvement was a bit or do you have different reason. Also, are the speakers coaxial or component. I have a 2019 Honda CR-V EX-L and they lack bass. A friend of mine recommended that I change the speakers, battery, add amp and that should give a great difference in bass as I didn't want to eat on the trunk space by adding desiccated subs. The compact powered subs per him are nothing but waste of money. You responded to one of the user that you only had a marginal difference in sound with the change. So, I am more concerned going this way. Please let me know your thoughts. It would be highly beneficial. Thanks in advance for your reply.

Just bought a 2020 CRV EX-L with 20k miles… the audio is terrible. I have no bass and it sounds like it only has the front two speakers working. Does this come with back speakers… or is there a speaker balance option?

@@greg6162go into setting -> audio -> balance, and then adjust the RR (rear) and FR (front) settings to be closer to the RR.

@greg6162 I have a 2022 EX-L and the rear speakers sounds like crap also. I believe is the factory way. There's no way of adjusting it.

if you get rid of the rubber cups behind the speaker's they will sound 100x better.

Agreed, because the low frequency bass needs space to generate that tone. By restricting the path from behind, you basically made your bass worse. I recently upgraded the front speakers of my 2015 CRV EX with JBL Concert 3-Way and they sound amazing!

@@PHamsteryeah but Honda’s head unit has a pre balanced EQ. It apparently limits the range and power it puts out. I think the head unit is a major problem. It doesn’t allow the speakers to fire at their full potential and limits the sound output

Hi, I have a 2022 CR-V hybrid with a dash airbag deployed that makes me change the dash pad completely. while I have to open up the dash completely, do you have any suggestion what speaker to replace in the dashboard? If yes, what would be the specification of the upgraded speaker? Please reply at your earliest, thanks!

There is a grill on the dashboard, it supposed to have a speaker inside but there is nothing. Would you be able to do a video or tell us on how to fix a speaker inside that grill?

That is a vent for the head unit. Not a speaker location.

hello, great job explaining, but you just added some more weight to the car as the factory speaker has neodymium magnet that has higher efficiency for a quarter the size and weight.

Then how do we make it sound a lot better. I have a crv 2020 and considering upgrading the speakers because they stock current sound system is not good. Will upgrading the speakers only improve the sound ?

@@loganle1043 It depends on how much of an upgrade and how much you want to spend. The stock system has the EQ set and bass drop-off at pre-determined levels. Replacing the speakers alone will not change this. You'll be playing the same frequencies just through new speakers. Also, the efficiency of the speakers will matter. A higher end speaker may have lower efficiency and the stock amp is not powerful enough to push through all the sound. A place to start is sound deadening. Just doing this can make a difference. You can replace the speakers and add an amp but should also consider a DSP to clear out the factory equalization and get a better signal. My other Honda, I bypassed the stock amp with a nice 5-channel amp, replaced the speakers and stock sub (in the stock location) and it sounded great. You don't need to spend huge amounts of money.

@@warrenb9343yes! I just bought a 2020 CRV EX-L and it sounds like there’s no bass and only the front speakers are firing? Why is the sound sooo bad… it literally sounds like two iPhone 14 Pro max and that’s it. Is there a balance option for rear speakers? What all do I need to get I’m not electrically inclined and I’ll probably have to pay someone. Do I need a new head unit and after market amp? I remember as a teen big bass systems were the rage. I don’t want bass you can hear three blocks away… just normal sound like in most cars

We just installed 4 DS series kicker speakers and the sounds is incredibly underwhelming. Looking at installing an amp now.

@@ryanoreilly3325 yep, i just made the same mistake. Bought 2 speakers and they sounded even worse than the stock speakers.You really need an amp for any aftermarket speakers

Man kappt den kompletten Sound eines Lautsprechers in den unteren Frequenzen indem man den Lautsprecher in eine Plastedose packt. Es gibt pasdende Distanzringe, all das was er da hinten macht ist Müll.
