Honda's latest infotainment system may look like the systems that have come before, but this one id built on Google's Android operating system allowing easier updates and more features. For 2018 Honda has also created the ability for smartphone users to control system features, tossed in Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a one-way cabin intercom system and a camera to monitor your kids in the back.

This is 5 million times better than Honda's previous system.

But wow... seriously ugly... why does Honda like inconsistent buttons all over the place?

I'd say that owes a lot to other design choices from Honda. Nevertheless, user experience is rarely something you would higlight on japanese cars, which is really weird considering it's the same country that hosts Nintendo and Sony

Excellent review, it should be noted that the previous system also ran Android. This one is a lot nicer looking though.

I love the features and was almost going to buy this vehicle but am now aware that there are way too many failures on this system. I am happy I got to know before I put the money down.

Honda has been using Android for quite a while. As my knowledge Accord 2016 is running some version of Android on it's head unit.

in your opinion, is it better to android auto where u plug in/unplug the phone each time the driver gets in/our of the car, or the in dash radio and portable gps( when necessary), it doesn't require a driver to plug anything into the car whenever he or she gets into the car? also do you know if Android auto Now carries the KZfaq Red app?

I am glad Honda finally redesigned their infotainment system. This is certainly better than the two screen crap or even the one in the new Civic, Pilot, and Ridgeline.

Glad to see the infotainment reviews come back. I think this software is a bit overdone. Not feature wise, but design wise. since its based on android, it needs alot of resources, and that's not including the very heavy skin they have on top of android. from what u can see from this video, that hardware doesn't seem to live up to the needs of the software. the finicky looking screen is fingerprint and dust magnet and having to use the screen to do everything is a bit annoying and some hardware buttons would have been useful. I have to give it to honda for the features though. the ability to control the vehicle via an iPad is very useful, and the social playlist is very useful. the last thing I noticed, which kinda shows that honda was not focused on the details, is the rear camera viewing the 2nd and 3rd row seats. it says check your surroundings. that is the default for outside monitoring cameras. a few lines of code would have easily done that. still, great improvement over the previous generation.

What's the benefit of a good infotainment system when there's no 3rd row speakers (except for the top ELITE trim)?
@unworthyServant08

I'm impressed. Will this be available as an update for the 2017 Honda CR-V's EX trim and higher? I'm considering an EX-L and my biggest gripe with it is the Display Audio system, other than the fact that it doesn't offer ventilated seats.

How do you add content to the "My Honda Music" app? I haven't found a guide in the owner's manual or anywhere online. My understand was that it's the built-in storage on the device that you can copy music to, however, I plugged in a USB drive with music (which the USB function reads perfectly fine) but when I open My Honda Music to try to copy it to the internal storage, it says it can't find any compatible music. Is is picky about format or folders? Pretty sure all of them were MP3s which I would think it kind of standard.

So we have a computer connected to the CAN-bus (engine, brakes, etc.) that is also connected to the internet and running a virus prone operating system. What could go wrong?

All of the Acura models could use this. I have a TLX and the navigation system is painfully bad. The other tech like lane keep assist is good, but I have waze running on my iPhone and the directions coming through my speakers via an AUX in. Until an OEM gets Waze or something with as good of directions as Waze, I will probably not pay for another Nav system if it is optional.
@RussellBohannon
@RussellBohannon 7 жыл бұрын
Why is the Cabin Control through speakers always advertised, but not available in my EX-L with Nav & Res? If this is only available on higher trim models, then say so in your ads and instructional videos.

They finally got rid of that stupid touch slider volume control. This system has an astonishing level of connectivity, an industry best, I'd say. Very impressive, Honda. Now you just need to roll this out to all models, especially the new Ridgeline, before I buy one.

D LG I'm in the middle of a freeway here in LA visiting. My family decided that we should go visit a specific address. my son is in the front seat. we try to enter the new destination while we were on the freeway it turned out the address entry was locked out and couldn't be used. that was in a Nissan Armada. Would Honda Ody have allowed my son (and not me the driver) to enter the address even if the car is in motion?
@johnfrantz5885
@johnfrantz5885 7 жыл бұрын
Ted Schactimera it will probably only let you enter an address by voice, not by typing. Most systems do that for safety once your in motion
@butipasila
@butipasila 7 жыл бұрын
John Frantz so for safety it will not allow my son who is sitting in the front seat and not driving to enter the address by keypad? I can understand if the only user is driving the car
@dlg5485
@dlg5485 7 жыл бұрын
+Ted Maybe Alex could chime in on this one. If the address is being entered via the app, it might be permitted. That is, if the assumption is that a passenger is entering it, but I don't know for sure.
@AAutoBuyersGuide
@AAutoBuyersGuide 7 жыл бұрын
The address can be entered via the app, as long as the app is running on a phone that is not paired with the system's bluetooth connection, i,.e it doesn't want to let the driver do it.
