They were totally unique. No other band produced the environment they did. A full environment. While other bands were producing endless boring jams, they were producing sonic journeys that took you along. I remember anticipating each album release eagerly, wondering what the opening cut would be like, because each opening cut was a strking invitation into the rest of the show.

I really didn't get into the Moodies until "Seventh Sojourn" was released. But then I slowly became familiar with their brilliant past catalog of mesmerizing music. And if they'd made only one album and it was "Days of Future Passed," well, that alone would have built their astounding legacy of some of the greatest poetry and yearnings of the human spirit ever put to music. Yes, The Beatles are immensely important and fun. But the Moodies have long grabbed my mind and soul!

For me these two are the best song writers of the 20th century, better than Lennon and McCartney. The Beetles music is great, but it never touched me or got inside me. Justin and Johns lyrics saw inside me, touched me, directed me. Gram's poetry lulled me to sleep at night and put me to dreaming and drove away nightmares. I read many a many books while having there many LPs on the record player, especially To Our Children's Children's Children and In search of the Lost Cord. House of Four Doors is a favorite of mine and I had always interpreted the songs(s) the wrong way -lol. I just wished they would have been inducted before Ray Thomas, passed; that was a damn shame!

@Daveyk021 The Moody Blues are a classy band that produced meaningful music. In my mind I see them as a band that went the distance to be the "cream of bands" or "The Sistine Chapel". Too bad that Mike Pinder left because he didn't want to travel. They filled his shoes with a guy that sued the members. Not a good idea! Look at the concert here on KZfaq where they played at The Red Rocks in Colorado. They filled the positions of the keyboard musicians with "session" musicians. It's a great concert!

@@petrslivinski7481 Yes, love(d) them. They brought me out of a dark time in the early 1980s and opened my mind to music, which up to that point, I really just ignored, with the exception of ABBA (lol). In the 80s and 90s, I read many a book with the classic albums stacked on the record changer and speakers loud. They are still my all-time favorite band. The bands I have been most influenced by: ABBA, Moody Blues, REM, Coldplay, Jonny Cash, Talking Heads, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, and a few other artist. If I had to pick just one, it would have to be the Moodies. As for those session musicians, they look like the ones that tour with Justin today. I did get to see him again in State College, PA last year, and two or three years prior to that in Harrisburg, PA. I have tried to see John, solo with his band, but he doesn't play many dates and I can never seem to get tickets if he's in or near, PA. I do not particularly care for that YES singer who tries to sing Justin's parts, but John is great. I have John's live tour album from a few years ago. Has Justin released a live tour album other than here on KZfaq?

So happy the Moody Blues finally made it into the R&RHOF. They should have been inducted in 1989 since bands become eligible 25 years after they are founded. That would have been one year after the first ceremony when the fabulous Everly Brothers (and others) made it in. Justin Hayward, John Lodge, Graeme Edge, Ray Thomas and Mike Pinder were the best lineup in all the years. In this performance, John sounds great - his voice has improved and gotten stronger over the years - and Justin rocks on the guitar but his voice seems a bit off here, maybe having a bad night or a bad mix because he still sings great today. Graeme can't bang on the drums like he could when he was younger - check out the KZfaq video of him smashing the skins on "I'm Just a Singer in a Rock and Roll Band."

It appears as though Graeme is ready to hang it up. Maybe a tour and/or some special appearances left in him..... I hope so. I was once a drummer myself.... the physical demand is far greater than what other musicians have to muster. I believe Justin and John have hinted that they will likely carry on in some fashion. I have heard that years ago during Mike's departure that he said some things to Graeme that essentially couldn't be unsaid. And there is a video here on youtube of Mike making a public apology to Graeme. But maybe thats a fence that can't be mended. However, they have remained civil and complimentary of each others work. So it really can't be all that bad. Anyway, it seems if Graeme is going to retire, or reduce his level of participation in some way.... maybe that would make room for Mike to rejoin the guys for a while. They can't have too many years left in them.... so why not? I wouldn't be surprised if they had an album left in them as well. That little bit of bad blood that occurred when Mike left is nothing compared to what most band break-ups look like. They were all very civil about it. It was such a small blip in the overall history. Seems like it could be gotten over.

"it seems if Graeme is going to retire, or reduce his level of participation in some way..maybe that would make room for Mike to rejoin the guys for a while" Won't happen.....especially if the news about Mike having dementia is true. Mike has stated in many interviews that his days in this band are fond memories but it is behind him. I read online from a guy that met Mike that Mike didn't particularly think the bands direction was where he wanted to be going in his life around the time Octave came out, and didn't exactly like the pop image the band was headed for.
